Your first suggestion is SO much easier than the second. Having supports is a must in any building. As you state, it's far easier if you start at the bottom of an incline and move upwards. Going from the top down you always get a step effect. Today we call it split level. Works good in some cases but not always. Once established one can always build downward providing a split level.
@@HarvsCorner Either I don't know how to search, or there just isn't any. But how does one match walls to a cave wall when the base isn't as wide as the wall gets. In most cases, the wall will be concurved or angled away for the base placements to a degree one can't insert aother base to build a wall upon. Thus leaving a gap in the hight of a wall ajoining a cave wall.

I play on Xbox unofficial, so the structure collision is off. But i use foundations and stairs to build on uneven ground, then remove the stairs. This method lets me build anywhere, even on the side of cliffs, and also can stack foundations to a degree. They don't snap and stack like s plus, but it gets the job done. Also, it allows for a ceiling to be placed flush with a foundation.
One 101 suggestion... Roofs!!!! 1) Roofs beyond the square flat or basic 'A' frame designs. Like for more complex builds! 2) Planning ahead to hide water and electrical lines actually 2 suggestions lol
This video is far superior to any other I have seen. All the other videos go way too fast, have very thick accents, don’t finish explaining my concerns, etc. It’s just bizarre how bad some of the videos are. Idk. I’m new to Ark and I’m also kind of shocked about the fact that we essentially have to exploit the game in order to build on uneven ground.

I am trying to make a large ramp base on the side of hill it will be a base but look like a huge ramp but i am still having trouble doing so even after watching a few vids on uneven ground building and vids on ramp building.

How about trying to put down foundations on a level spot and you are getting a nice layout. All of the sudden you get spots that are red. Says there is an obstruction, but there is nothing there.
Could be a few things. Sometimes there is a small rock of plant that needs to be removed. Try standing in the area and harvest bare handed. The other problem might be the structure collision.
Ive got a small gap under the walls and its so irritating, ive been trying to figure this shit out for an hour. And I do have the structure collision disabled. I am using your first method of building on uneven ground.
@@HarvsCorner Thank you, that is what I attempted at first was the pillar method, and I got that working, but when covering up the pillars by putting walls on all the sides it left a small unsightly gap at the bottom where i was unable to place another wall. Also with this pillar method you have to have ceilings for floors in the base you're trying to build, right? And can you build on ceilings the same way you can build on foundations?
@@amyralibra Its hard to describe, but long story short Ark building can be a pain. You may need to play the "cycle through the snap point" game but they should lock provided the pillars were placed right at the start.
Hi I see that the block option is available on Xbox after you place the foundation. Is there a way to have it in block form before placing it ? Since I can’t change it prior to placing it, the regular foundation won’t snap to its fellow foundation when the ground below it gets to steep.
I see at the bottom of your screen you have Xbox buttons for your quick item row. I thought you were on Xbox but I also see a cursor on your screen. How can I get S+ foundations on Xbox ? What I meant earlier is that I see you are automatically placing down foundation blocks that are stackable while on Xbox it only let’s me place regular foundations that I can then change to blocks (so I am not sure if we are getting s+ block capabilities or it’s just aesthetics) . There is no option to place foundation in block form that I know of. Because of this I can’t stack foundations on Xbox. Are you playing on Xbox PC ? I thought s+ was only delegated to the steam workshop ?

It can be really frustrating. I highly recommend on vanilla to build on pillars. And start the pillars at the lowest elevation withing the build area you are going to use. The way the pillars snap in place evenly as you go up
Pillar option yes, but sometimes sinking the foundations can require the option. In my experience official servers do not ignore structure collision. However honestly i have not played on official in a little while, that may have changed
I did your pillar system on Official PVE and it didn't work.. maybe it got patched. When I place 2 pillars it does snap location to the next location just red and say its obstructed. Tried in couple locations same result all the time.
perhaps its was patched. Have you checked the area around? make sure loose rocks or plants are harvested/picked up. It may be that collision detection is reading the pillars are going to low into the ground.
I believe some servers have it on and some do not. A way to test would be to try to place something simple like a campfire over another campfire. It it works, you're golden, if not, then some methods will not work
S+ is a very popular mod used on PC servers. It adds a lot of quality-of-life abilities and also better structures. They snap better and in this case you can even stack foundations on top one another. Hope that helped!

Yes the pillars should still place this way on official as long as you start from the low point and move up. If collision is not disabled you would not be able to have the walls comes down into the ground as i did.
Gotcha, yeah i would say mods would help quite a bit. My recommendation is start a single player on any map, and use the GCM mode. (Cheat GCM) That will allow you to build whatever/however without resource cost, engram restriction, or weight. Might be a good idea to test things out with.
@@JacknOats darn, snap points are finicky to say the least. Only other advice i would give would be to slowly move the camera angle around. I find sometimes i have to fight with it for it to make sense
You can definitely still do a pretty base, it just takes a little more preparing as far as build locations and what not. I plan on trying to do a build this weekend with no mods whatsoever. Hopefully it might help!

It's complete garbage compared to space engineers.

I'm struggling with fence foundations for a build, they're uneven. I can't find a piece of grounf that's level to the point where they're not uneven.
Use the fence supports instead. They're a little more difficult to place but they will be level if snapped together
