  • We wanted to try running as barefoot as possible, these are about as close as you are going to get! The V Run Retros have been super fun to run in, although they do have their flaws. Vibram is one of the originals in the barefoot shoe movement, we were super excited to try them out and were not disappointed, although unless you are truly "barefoot adjusted" and super dedicated to being as barefoot as possible, these might prove difficult to adjust to. We love the novelty of your toes being spread apart into different compartments and the initial feel that that gives, but how far are we able to run in them? Check out the video to see, and if you're in the market for shoes, sunglasses, or paddling equipment, check out the affiliate links below! These are all brands and products that we truly believe in and happily stand by.

    Ya'll be careful! It's not about how far you can run in them today; it's about how far you can run in them today and still be able to walk TOMORROW!

      You can run as far as you like as long as your feet are adapted. They are my only running shoes and Ive used them up to Marathon distance. Before that I had some Vibrams V-Trek. Loved both.

      @stephankotter6921 Absolutely! And legs. I love my vibram 5 fingers! Wore out my first pair in Afghanistan over 10 years ago. I've had many a friend who pushed it too hard too fast in them and gave me walking comedy for a week. Wasn't putting limits on them, just a word of warning to any new buyers. They work your legs and feet in new ways.

      @@joshgonefishin Glad you like you 5 fingers!! xD But yes... a word of warning for new buyers is certainly warranted.

    Couldn't disagree more with you guys, the idea of the shoe is being barefoot.
    Maybe you guys could try running in places that are not asfalt for longer, it will increase your muscles and then asfalt will be easier.
    Anyway, thanks for the review :)

    Personally I love the V-Run and run a lot in them. As long as your feet are adapted, there is no distance that you cannot do in tehm. But be that as is it may... your video has a lot of good information for potential buyers! The V-Run may not be as minimalist as it gets (Shamma Warriors 5 mm are xD), but they are pretty close! And people should know that. It will take time to switch even if you ran in other minimalist shoes before. So you should know what you are getting into when you buy them.

    I bought the V run retro replacing another brand of barefoot runners. Although I have been using minimalist footwear for over a year, there was definitely a transition to these shoes- I initially blistered my feet in them. You discussed how you really have to pay attention to how you run in these shoes, that is true these will make you very aware of your stride. I used to be a heel striker, now I run more forefooted with the outsole and small toe actually touching the ground first- if that makes sense. You get immediate feedback on your stride which helps you to adjust how you run- just like if you were barefoot. Which is really the point. I agree that these are specific to running, and there is definitely a break in period for the shoe and getting your feet adjusted to them. Overall I really like them and routinely run 5+ miles in them.

    They single most important aspect, which you show so well in the video, is the toestrike running style. Which is the way all other running mammals do it. The whole body’s suspension is then effective with no jarring shockwaves traveling up the body. We must be the only mammals with heelstrike running as a default style. Imagine a cheetah or an antelope running on its heels😂

    I love the shoe and have no shame wearing them even to work. I do agree they are not something I would/could run very far in without logging a lot of time transitioning first

    Hello, is the retro wider on the middle part (arch part)? I had the v-run before, although the size in terms of length (toe-to-heel) was right, it gets too tight on the middle part, I guess my foot is fat. Will I have that same problem with the retro?

    • @sonsofsever
      @sonsofsever  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! I hadn't thought about that at all until I saw this question, but after looking at them both and trying them both on, the Retros definitely seem to have a wider platform through the mid foot than the V Run. Just make sure you get that length sizing correct because if they're too small that seam will drive you nuts. If you're gonna buy make sure you use our link!

      I don't think my speed changes at all between the two. They're both extremely minimal and light

    Which Vibram is best for ultra running?

    • @sonsofsever
      @sonsofsever  Год назад

      Not sure I’d recommend vibrams for ultra running. Unless you have some hardcore feet. They have the vrun with 8.5 mm of stack height. That’s probably be your best bet.

      Altra Lone peak will be a good one for Ultras. 0mm drop, wide toebox and still ground feel. Or Altra superior if the terrain will be more forgiving. Hey, it all depends on how hardcore you are. Plenty of guys/girls wearing thin sandals for Utra runs.

      @@sonsofseverare the Lems shoes made for running?

  • @Matto_Harvo
    @Matto_Harvo Год назад +4

    I think it’s very hard for someone that cannot actually run at their distance actually barefoot, to do a genuine review of such a runner. They don’t even realise what they’re looking at. It is not a “normal” shoe, so to review it as such is pointless. If you cannot run barefoot; these are not for you

    • @sonsofsever
      @sonsofsever  Год назад +1

      I'm a little confused at your comment and need some clarification. You're saying that because we can't run very far in these reviewing them is pointless? Just looking to have an open discourse here and make sure I understand exactly what you're saying as we've got a bunch more reviews on different Vibrams toe shoes coming down the line.

    • @Matto_Harvo
      @Matto_Harvo Год назад +1

      @@sonsofsever Imagine if you grew up somewhere where you never wore shoes and did everything barefoot. Your feet would be broad, your arch would be strong and well defined. Now stick on the latest set of cushioned, arch “supported”, narrow toed beauties and do a review. You would probably not even entertain wearing them for 5 minutes. Why? Because your feet are not ready for such shoes. Would you want too see a shoe review from such a person, if you were already broken in to modern shoes?

    • @Matto_Harvo
      @Matto_Harvo Год назад +1

      Actually just imagine reviewing the absolute best Gucci high heel shoe. People that wear high heel shoes want to hear about the shoe and not about how you can’t wear them and therefore give them a low score.

    • @sonsofsever
      @sonsofsever  Год назад +2

      @@Matto_Harvo yeah I totally see where you're coming from. I'm not sure how much of the review you watched, but we mention more than just the fact that they're gonna be difficult for the masses to wear because of how "barefoot" they are. There's the issue with the way the insole is sewn into the big toe that both of us experienced that knocked the score down too, plus the fact that not everyone's second toe will fit into them if that happens to be your longest toe. We made the video from the perspective of, hey, there's people out there looking to run in barefoot shoes, let's tell them about this one, and there's people who might just be getting into the barefoot movement, let's caution them about making the jump to this shoe too quickly, and we felt like we did that. You might not see it that way and that's totally fine!

    My only concern is how this shoe turns into a microwave. No ventilation. Your foot comes out pruny & smelly.

      @sonsofsever  10 месяцев назад +1

      Not to call you out specifically because different people sweat differently, but, that wasn’t an issue either of us had with it. I’m a very sweaty guy and my feet were fine 🤷🏻‍♂️ I have had that issue a bit worse with other models
