I didnt see enough to see a gimbal killer, the trails where to mallow, no real hits or something else where you actually cant see shit with a non stabilized cam.
You can't truly believe after watching the GoPro footage on RUclips that it isn't utter crap. Looks like a 2010 Android not to mention the amount of jelly effect of the "Hypersmooth" Not a fan of that "gimbal killer" claim
I keep watching this video over and over again, in my opinion this is the best GoPro Hero 7 Black review ever. I like the fact that it’s not a sit down and talk about its features kind of thing, it’s an active, real review. Great job as always Casey. 🤩😃👍🏻
4:18 he's joking right? Or is he just that arrogant? Bigger cameras capture more detail, have better stabilization, capture better lighting, have more lenses, filters, and pretty much everything you can think of, is better on a larger camera.
I guess the "hyper smooth" feature was turned ON only on that bike downhill session, all the rest was really shaky and, if I may say here, ruined all this review. By the way did you guys noticed at 7:44 Casey was (not) driving a Tesla?
What's he going to say? The first rule of marketing is "never say anything negative" ... The real problem is in the questioning. The questions Casey asked essentially play straight into a marketing type answer. Of course this is to be expected. Having early access to products allows him to unique produce before anyone else has it which in turns gives him views.
Nice camera stabilization. *Here is the answer* to the CEO of GoPro: we, the people like larger cameras, because of the zoom. It makes videos more dynamic.
also larger sensor's make low light capture better, the cameras have faster shutters, better OIS, interchangeable lenses, etc....he is a moron trying to hype is dying product that is rapidly loosing market share to the cheap Chinese cameras that come out of the same factory where his shit is made.
There is no question about if or not...professional video makers/vlogers focused on quality (like Casey/Jon Olsson and the likes) will not use GoPros only for filming anytime soon because it's an Actioncamera!!! I would understand if someone like Roman Atwood would go for a GoPro as his main camera because he isn't focused on Image Quality as much (and of course wrecks them much quicker i get the feeling :p)^^
silbay IMHO GoPro competitors got a long way to go...as many before me said: "Getting into action cameras it isn't about thinking IF you get a GoPro but WHICH GoPro you get" which for now at least is true^^
Last time I checked you can't bring your smartphone or DSLR camera scuba diving lol. Well.... I guess you could if you wanted to destroy them lol. Don't think either will last long at depth. Besides, the GoPro ecosystem is insane with the amount of accessories you can have with them that you can turn it into a camera you could vlog with if that was your thing. The handles, the lights, filters and lenses for up close shots. Not to mention the hyper-smooth stabilization is amazing. The battery is on the weaker side and getting the extra battery/charger is almost a must needed accessory. The editing and import to your iPhone through the app is also super quick and you can do alot of cool edits with music and lapses etc. It's a nice camera to have especially if you aren't really a vlogger and you go on adventures and that's where most of your videos come from but you can also take sweet photos and selfies if you wanted to as well
I find these comments funny, do you see how tiny a GoPro is? Have you seen some of the video gear that looks like the guy is a cyborg because of how big the rig is? So you either get a GoPro, which can attach to basically anything and provide high quality video and sound in a very tiny package, or you spend $1500 plus on a mirrorless or DSLR that will not be tiny but give you zoom and superior video. Most of you seem like you want a DSLR/mirrorless camera in a tiny plastic body. Unrealistic expectations for a $400 device. Every GoPro has become better and better, but I have never had issues with video quality on my Hero 5 black and I am 2 generations behind now. Not perfect but looks good to me (despite the RUclips compression and such).
Exactly. These guys completely missed the point. Its all about portability. A gopro can never have the qualities of a DSLR. But it sure can go places where a DSLR can't. Thats where the gopro wins.
@@sajes6273 You're probably one of those kids at school who can't read for shit and stutters on the pronunciation of basic vocabulary when asked to read aloud lul

It seemed like an honest "review", and he wasn't "paid", they just gave him cool free stuff in exchange for limiting what he could and couldn't say about the product. That's sort of what can happen when your opinion matters so greatly.
The sound quality is actually so good for a GoPro I definitely think you can vlog with the GoPro Hero 7 Casey And I love your videos so much Casey they are so well made and the effort you put in to editing these videos must be tremendous I tried it myself and it's so hard to do. Your so talented Casey.
Jacob Seppa I’ve never actually owned a GoPro - reckon I could put one to good use for my content. Would love to bring one along for something like a marine biology episode 🐠
I think the go pro really draws so many people in just because it’s so easy to use for a relatively low price. Someone who just wants to record their vacation, a music festival, sports or anything of that sort isn’t going to want to do it in their phone but also wouldn’t want to spend the money and time to learn how to use a DLSR.
@@InfamousInternetVillainJackSix Yea, GoPro is falling apart. They're trying to safe what's left, but their stock price went from 70USD to 5USD. Seems like the competition is in fact making a better product.
Funnily enough, often gimbal manufacturers ask you to turn OFF the image stabilization when you put a camera in the gimbal. The software sometimes freaks out because the incoming footage is already smooth, and it makes the image worst. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the case here too...
I think you answer your question, the GoPro is obviously not for everyone. It's an action selfie cam... you show a cell phone and then a DSLR but neither of those can be mounted in all the crazy places a GoPro can, nor are they anywhere near as durable. As much as we want a do it all camera, the unfortunate truth is that a DSLR will never be as portable or handy as a cell phone, nor will the cell phone be as durable or as good as a dedicated camera like the GoPro. Does that average person need 10 of them like some pros have? No...but its nice to have one in the camera bag. A Lot of people have SLRs and a GoPro cost about the same price (or way less) as a lense.
I do Parkour and Freerunning, and I had a DSLR for about one ear, and after having it for about half a year, I regretted bying this so hard. now I got myself a HERO 7 Black and I'm just super happy with it. If you really mess around with all the settings, it opens up tons of new possibilitys for filmmakers and all other people. You can record things a big DSLR would never have the chance to, and besides, the image quality is really really good. So, for the 300$ it costs at the moment I'm sure it's the best camera out there if you want to shoot videos that look good and are creative and easy!
*why is no reviewer mentioning the horrible low compression,* *image looks really bad, with with those compression artifacts* *neither micbersma, casey neistat or anyone mentions it even.*
VinGin that is just RUclips compression for you :( my GoPro 5 looks better than this on other platforms like Vimeo. And I watched gp7 footage on Facebook that looks better compressed than this.
I was really hoping someone was going to mention this, it’s so pixelated. I’ve noticed that the GoPro colors are more flat so you can color grade Bette but still the resolution looks incredibly low.
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke looks like low bitrate. it’s possible he had to compress the footage and upload it to a server so he would only have access to it after a certain time.
Most likely because of the low bit rate that comes from uploading at 1080p standard without upscaling to 2k for better bitrate. RUclips has a terrible bitrate for standard 1080p footage so the solution would be to upscale to something like 2048*1152, that way it stays at 1080p but yt increases the bit rate for the video.
Good cam? Good cam. Good for vlogging? Sort of. Filming at night is still pretty bad. Good audio quality? Haven't had any problems, use it for my drum videos and so far I've been satisfied. Never used it in any other situation so can't give a proper review... Hypersmooth: it's being great in my drumming videos. Battery life: good for what I use it for. If I could grade it, I'd give it a 9/10
I'm sorry but no... This is not a gimbal killer. I'd love to see a side by side comparison of the built in image stabilization of this with something like a Movi gimbal. It would be hilarious. And as for why people still use DSLRs instead of gopros for non action cam shots: a world of video quality difference. I could show my grandma a shot on a GoPro vs a nice dslr and she'd no doubt see the difference. Look I'm not hating on GoPro. I love them and they are by far the leader in action cams, but let's not pretend they're something that they are not...
I was about to write this same review Kids will buy this for their “vlogs” and small film makers will buy it for the purpose they always buy gopros but I’ll take my A7sii with a ronin s all day
Don't think they're talking about the Movi or Ronin type gimbals. More like the ones you'd actually be putting a GoPro on and strapping to your body. Lots of people who ride mountain bikes or kayaks and post it on RUclips, and if you want stable footage... Until now you've needed a gimbal. But those are big and heavy, and not really fun to wear when you're doing things like that. So if this can do even 80% of what those do... It could be really good. But yeah, no... They don't match up to DSLRs or cinema cameras if you're somewhere where you don't need a waterproof/shockproof camera.
A lot of my GoPro use it snowboarding trips/ mountain biking. I cannot afford a water proof gimbal. the stabilisation is pretty awesome with that regard. However you give me a lovely gimbal for my canon. I'll still gladly take it. But I agree. go pros are not your blogging product.

@@brokenvesselsco comparing it to the earlier go pros it was miles better. Of course not going to be as good as an external. I'm looking at is as a good sign of improvement Edit: autocorrect fixes
It's definitely an improvement. I may just have high expectations because, once Casey mentioned the improved audio, I was waiting on some real high quality sound. And I'm thinking about it as a potential vlog camera. After watching the video again I realized that some of the time it sounded less than ideal it was because water was most likely covering the mic. No doubt it's a step up though.
Always wanted to get one of these for some all day flats fishing trips but the cost seems prohibitive. Casey would love to see you do one of your side by side camera tests between this and a couple of the "no name" $80-100 options on Amazon.
RIP Gimbal? Hahahah.... I dont think so Nick. This is ridiculous just like u said Karma is "more than a drone". If all youtuber vlogging with this camera then all vlog will be in outdoor situation because indoor footage will be very.....bad. This is an action cam, just use it for action.
So does the text in the corner, so I'm guessing either something during the render on his end, or RUclips being a bit slow and dropping the quality a bit during the more active parts.
You understand it has a fixed lens right? It's a compact action camera that records fantastic shots. The quality is great, it suffers from some limitations because it's such a small camera, but for $400? You could do a lot worse. Anything can be fixed in post production, movie making is an artform, not a science.
Well ... I do not know if RUclips will have lowered the quality ... but I'm watching the video at 1080 and the quality of the shots with GoPro is very poor ... I have a Xiaomi yi 4k that shoots a lot better than that. I find it very strange ..
better off just using your cell phone, unless you need to mount it in a challenging place (motorcycle or car for example) But you can use a cheap lightdow or something similar. And if don't need to shoot 4k, decent action cams can be had for under 60 bucks.
The text saying when he's using the GoPro is also having issues, so I'm guessing it has something to do with the way he rendered it, or RUclips just struggling due to all the motion.
I have a Hero model 4,5 &6 and even when I use ND filters they still do not outperform my Yi4k+ Furthermore I have had to have the "waterproof" Hero's returned on 4 times due to water getting inside the camera which was the only benefit over the Yi. Go-pro's solution was...... They sent me the dive case for them which now takes away the only benefit over the Yi. And I do not know if they fixed the external audio attachment for a mic but the HUGE adapter they have has also stopped working on two occasions and had to be returned and replaced. About as impressed with GoPro as their stock has been....
They vlog with the big cameras cuz they look waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better
I want the video quality to be extremely good but GOPRO just doesn't cut it for me. If you see some of my videos you can see the quality is just not up to par. Still looks sick though.
Hi Casey! I'm marlo from philippines I've been watching your vlogs for years now and just wanna say I love how you apply your creativity when producing/making story. I wish could be like you but can't afford equipment.
that's not the real quality....i don't know wtf casey did but that shit looked choppy as fucccckkkk. look at the other hero 7 videos on youtube. i'm guessing casey used his rendering settings for his normal camera and for some reason that must have messed with it. I have been making videos with a gopro for a long time and they look amazing for that size.
RUclips compression? there is literally 8K videos on youtube , looks more real than real life. Its just Casey , he did something very wrong. Record quality was literally 480p
I think that this is the best GoPro yet! I really love it, the audio is SO much better than I expected and anybody that says the quality is bad doesn't understand that it's been edited and uploaded to the internet. Get with it people.

The hypersmooth is good but it looks terrible because of the goddamn bitrate
I agree, i expected much better image quality from a new gopro in this day and age.
I didnt see enough to see a gimbal killer, the trails where to mallow, no real hits or something else where you actually cant see shit with a non stabilized cam.
Looks great on my end! I had to change the stream quality to 1080P in the youtube app.
Now i have to google what the max bitrate is on this GoPro Hero 7 Black. Because the quality looks like Vaseline recorder 1.0

I keep watching this video over and over again, in my opinion this is the best GoPro Hero 7 Black review ever. I like the fact that it’s not a sit down and talk about its features kind of thing, it’s an active, real review. Great job as always Casey. 🤩😃👍🏻
“What do I need to- Zach who’s your favorite RUclipsr?”
4:18 he's joking right? Or is he just that arrogant? Bigger cameras capture more detail, have better stabilization, capture better lighting, have more lenses, filters, and pretty much everything you can think of, is better on a larger camera.
Oh right, also optical zoom is an insanely huge factor.
He's selling HIS product to a 10 million audience platform.
He is horribly arrogant, that is what has held the company back.

I guess the "hyper smooth" feature was turned ON only on that bike downhill session, all the rest was really shaky and, if I may say here, ruined all this review. By the way did you guys noticed at 7:44 Casey was (not) driving a Tesla?
He bought the Tesla several weeks ago
Was wondering the same, why not use the hyper smooth on rest of his footage.... 👎
1:46 WHY always say "the best we have ever made"?... it is the last one... obviously is the best.... oh wait, Apple.
Best we ever made they mean was Karma, because they can't make any better drone than karma, so karma is their best drone made by them

@@ItsMinarmy for a 326ppi screen... $750... In 2018... Nice one.
We also like the ability to use different lenses and enjoy some dynamic bokeh from now and then too. Still, that stabilization is pretty great.
"loosing" - what kind of made up word is that?
That kind of helps answer my question. I'm trying to get a GoPro and I can find a Go pro 5 pretty cheap on resale apps.

@Eveready If YOU think that way then you are an idiot.
Eveready
You think Gopro invited him there for NOTHING!!!! Over 2 million views has to have some value, just working out how the dosh was distributed could be a problem.
It seemed like an honest "review", and he wasn't "paid", they just gave him cool free stuff in exchange for limiting what he could and couldn't say about the product. That's sort of what can happen when your opinion matters so greatly.
@Eveready you are so cute lol
3:29 that vertigo effect though.
What's up with that? I was trying to figure out what was even going on there.
It's basically just zooming in while flying backwards or vice versa. The newest Mavic has a quick shot mode, that automatically does that.
So that's a Mavic shot there and not a GoPro one? (Since GoPro can't zoom.)
The House of David Yes, that's the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.

Nick A I wouldn't call it relatively low price... a lot of phones are about that price
Wyvern Apalis yea true it is a lot of money, I just meant in comparison to other cameras
Gopros are still being made because they still fill a gap in the market: Action cameras.
this was my exact thoughts. I would never even think about using my phone or an DSLR flying down the hill on my snowboard or riding at the skatepark.
@@InfamousInternetVillainJackSix Yea, GoPro is falling apart. They're trying to safe what's left, but their stock price went from 70USD to 5USD. Seems like the competition is in fact making a better product.

Hyper smoothing + gimbal? *LETS SEE IT*
It's called a jpg or png... ;)
Funnily enough, often gimbal manufacturers ask you to turn OFF the image stabilization when you put a camera in the gimbal. The software sometimes freaks out because the incoming footage is already smooth, and it makes the image worst. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the case here too...
don't know if the hypersmooth is mechanicle or software... if it's software. turn it off when on a gimbal
@@freelifeproductions Mechanical?? I would be incredibly surprised if it was mechanical.
Irony - Buy a go pro camera, fit it to a karma Gimbal! Gimmicks for Business.
Spencer/Tressa Adams agreed!
I'm a big GoPro guy 🔥
Looks like I won't be using that Karma grip I got last year 🤔
TrueMOBSTER The Karma grip did get updated. At least, that is what I have heard from others. Even with the new stabilization, it may still be useful.
Haha vlogging while having your Tesla in autopilot is next level RUclipsing..

Video looks down-ressed? The footage and even the text looks fuzzy/pixelated...
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke probably RUclips’s algorithm
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke looks like low bitrate. it’s possible he had to compress the footage and upload it to a server so he would only have access to it after a certain time.
Most likely because of the low bit rate that comes from uploading at 1080p standard without upscaling to 2k for better bitrate. RUclips has a terrible bitrate for standard 1080p footage so the solution would be to upscale to something like 2048*1152, that way it stays at 1080p but yt increases the bit rate for the video.
Im waiting for the best tech review by Ben 😎
RUclips lately has been looking really bad. I noticed the past few days any fast movements over grass and its crazy blocky.
I clicked on this video because I thought he was going to eat the GoPro

Good for vlogging? Sort of. Filming at night is still pretty bad.
Good audio quality? Haven't had any problems, use it for my drum videos and so far I've been satisfied. Never used it in any other situation so can't give a proper review...

This was probably one of the best reviews out there. Thanks.

It's a *gimbal killer* for quite a bit of sports actually, alot of athletes cant use gimbles for pov since they are too bulky and lower safety.
I was about to write this same review
Kids will buy this for their “vlogs” and small film makers will buy it for the purpose they always buy gopros but I’ll take my A7sii with a ronin s all day
Don't think they're talking about the Movi or Ronin type gimbals.
Josh Darilek well said 👍
A lot of my GoPro use it snowboarding trips/ mountain biking.

I'm looking at is as a good sign of improvement
Edit: autocorrect fixes
It's definitely an improvement. I may just have high expectations because, once Casey mentioned the improved audio, I was waiting on some real high quality sound. And I'm thinking about it as a potential vlog camera. After watching the video again I realized that some of the time it sounded less than ideal it was because water was most likely covering the mic. No doubt it's a step up though.

So does the text in the corner, so I'm guessing either something during the render on his end, or RUclips being a bit slow and dropping the quality a bit during the more active parts.
The quality looks fantastic, the color grading isn't really that great, but you can fix that in post production.
guessing Casey Didn't alter the video but kept it Raw? maybe
The whole video looks bad to be honest, I checked multiple times if I was really in 1080p and not 480....

@@OfficialMageHDyes, i note that as well, but only on gopro shoots?
I have a Hero model 4,5 &6 and even when I use ND filters they still do not outperform my Yi4k+ Furthermore I have had to have the "waterproof" Hero's returned on 4 times due to water getting inside the camera which was the only benefit over the Yi. Go-pro's solution was...... They sent me the dive case for them which now takes away the only benefit over the Yi. And I do not know if they fixed the external audio attachment for a mic but the HUGE adapter they have has also stopped working on two occasions and had to be returned and replaced. About as impressed with GoPro as their stock has been....
I've noticed it on all HERO7 reviews today. It has to do with how RUclips compressed it. :/
