  • In this week’s episode of the Rox Lyfe podcast we get to speak with Michael Sandbach (@sandy6000 on Instagram). Sandy - as he’s commonly known - recently finished 2nd in the Elite race at the 2024 HYROX World Championships in Nice. He was a major part in helping to make it probably the best race we’ve seen in HYROX in a seriously impressive performance. To top off his weekend in Nice, Sandy also captained England to the win in the first ever HYROX Mixed Relay World Championship. And it’s also worth noting that Sandy is the Mens Pro Doubles WR holder along with Hunter McIntyre. In this chat we talk about the races in Nice, his tactics, his mindset, what motivates him. what hes done in his training in recent times - especially on the running side - that’s helped him so much and lots more. It was a really enjoyable, insightful chat with an extremely impressive athlete - and Im already excited to see what he can do next season.

Michael is one of the most relatable athletes on the planet. As someone whose solo hyrox time is still over 2 hours, I get this guy and I understand him

Great interview Greg. Love to see that the top athletes can now just about make it professionally. Always love hearing those training split details. Seems like there's a lot of similarity between Alex's and Sandy's training. Lower on the running volume, but consistently high intensity.

Thanks! On the running volume thing, yeah I agree I noticed that. But its worth adding that not all the Elites are like that. I dont think, on the Womens side for example, that Megan or Lauren would describe themselves as lower volume runners, and (I cant be sure) but I dont think JK (who finished 3rd in the mens race) would either. So Alex and Sandys approach isnt necessarily a trend!

@@roxlyfe That's my sense too. Seems like Rich, Ryan Kent, and Megan are all 80k+, when they discuss their training on their pod. Hope you're able to get JK on the pod and hear more about his racing tactics, the roxzone running seemed really special.
