I’m a man and if I ever had been sexually assaulted, I know personally I would have an impossible time speaking up about any of it. Of course, I WISH it was easier and that women especially would come out sooner but I can never blame them when they don’t.
I, a heterosexual man, was SA by another man n I ain’t tell anyone to this day. I felt weak and like it was my fault.

And that’s not even a crazy ask. I saw a case where it was decades later but she kept the dress that had his semen on it and he was arrested and convicted. That’s good evidence even though it was decades later.

I think she said she has no reason NOT to believe them. This could be implied for either side. Meaning, she has no reason either way as she hasn't been given enough facts. So she isn't going to automatically assume that they're lying.

@@cheriemcmurry9490 consent is a moving goalposts in some circumstances. I remember clubbing decades ago, you see a girl dancing and you start dancing with her. Consent in that case was the girl kept dancing with you. By today's meaning, that could defined as assault. A man shooting his shot can be defined as assault. It's not clear until someone is offended in a lot of ways and it's a stark difference from prior definitions. Remember the 70's-80's movie scenes, two ppl on a date a the movie theater, guy stretches/yawns and puts him arm around the girl? - that can be viewed as SA to some. Spontaneity has become the opposite of consent without regard to the fact that more ppl than not actually prefer spontaneous gestures and acts. For Jaime's sake, he could very well deal with so many woman who like what he's being alleged of that he legit misread the situation (if it happened at all). I think its unfair that someone can go along with it, then years later say they is wasn't consented and they only appeased the act out of fear. That's too ambiguous for my liking. Same scenario, a woman makes it immediately known that they're offended- I 1000% approve of but what's going on now is murky as hell

There should be law that you have to file criminal charges before asking for money. I understand its scary but by not going to the police you’re allowing the person to walk free and keep hurting others.

I understand the logic in your thinking, but consider the psychological and emotional effects of abuse. Many women never tell anyone what happened because of the shame and self blame. Also, there’s often a power dynamic at play and most times it’s one party’s word against another’s. These situations are messy, which is why some do use them to their advantage.

I get victim psychology can be tricky but do you find it odd that these things are being litigated exclusively on the civil side rather than criminal or both? It’s almost like you can R or SA someone as long as you have the money to pay for it.
@@jasonau427 filing criminal charges is up to the DA. You can report anything, but citizens don’t file their own charges. That’s why it’s always the state, or the US vs. whoever. Civil suits become the only recourse most times.

The incentive structure is out of wack.
The case of that French soccer player Benjamin Mendy is a clear example. Spent 3 years in lockup, lost his professional contract and 3 years of his career at prime age, just to be proven not guilty and discovered that the women slept with him with intent to try to get him with a baby.
Now he is proven innocent, these women literally get to walk free with no reprimanding or penalty.
How is this a fair and just setup?

Because the dynamics are in their favor. Theres a big upside for the filers if they win and no downside if the allegations are dropped. Where for the men in this case, there is no upside and either way it ends badly for them. So it makes it a case of how much are you willing to pay for damage control? Pay me a few millions and i go away OR i drag you through the mud, risk getting canceled and blowing up your career and image.
This occurs when you just poorly written policies to guard against abuse of it.

"If you're not guilty then why would you settle?" this reminds me of when white people would ask "if you're not guilty then why did you run?" because how I perceive myself doesn't change the reality of how I am perceived by others. A cop perceives black men to be guilty, whether I'm actually guilty or not doesn't matter in that moment. Furthermore if you've ever had a court case you know that it's time-consuming and almost never a quick transaction, I had a road rage incident that took a year to resolve itself, and we didn't even go to trial. These cases would take years to reach a conclusion all the while the individual is losing out on money and other potential opportunities, so yeah I can see why someone would rather settle and pay $250,000 rather than go the distance and win but had lost out on $5 million. Whether you agree with the decision or not it's not a difficult concept to understand.

I really feel like you shouldn’t be able to proceed with these types of civil lawsuits without FIRST attempting to presss criminal charges (successful or not). @JUSJASSONLYFORJUSTICE4ALL we don't got a uniform history. Alot of those same fathers and uncles molested those same children and it got swept under the rug. Beat those same women and it got swept under the rug. They just now starting to take sexual assault more seriously but even if u report the police don't investigate. There are thousands of rape kits that are not even tested that women and men have undergone. Stuff still get swept under the rug but we get fooled because sometimes high profile cases seem like everyone under fire when it's still a work in progress. Glad u were raised in a protected environment but that's not everybody's experience

Trust me, from someone with personal experience, going to the police will oftentimes make the experience 1000x time worse for the victim. You’re lucky if the perpetrator of the crime sees any part of the inside of a jail no matter how much evidence you have, and the process of getting them prosecuted is extensively retramautizing. I would 100% recommend going for grievance pay rather than criminal prosecution.
That shit is NOT easy.... Coming forward is not easy... So many will take that to the damn grave or only share with close, trusted circles. You can't speak on it because you have no freaking clue.
