Man, is anybody aware of how much of a masterpiece this song really is? Goosebumps, everytime.
it is...it's also seems to have alotta classic rock in it's DNA.... I hear Beatles, Foreigner, Soundgarden in there
bellinghammond Yeah, it's kinda grungy, kinda pop-rocky. Just an instant classic imo.
Amén brother !!
totally aware brother
Absolutely perfect song
The vocal ranges and transitions are fucking incredible. Seriously, this guy is no joke. He is a true legend.
I was just talking to my Wife and lil' brother about Joshua.
Absolutely one of the GREATS!!!
one talented mofo! !!! and under rated as heck!!! thank God for players like Josh Homme.
They harmonise incredibly well. One of the things I like best about QotSA
Dig this, there is an awesome interview with him, sweating in a garage somewhere in L.A. and talking about his (very) early times in guitar playing. About style, tech and sound. Both guys make it a cool but hot conversation about music - no studio and no big cameras needed.
He and his band is one of my idols in playing the guitar. They have such an outstanding sound.
guitar moves
We've known for quite some time actually.
I love how at the beginning they're like "Meh, let's do Ocean, somebody will probably screw up but whatever", and then they do a performance with almost 4 million views that I listened on repeat for 3 consecutive days when I first discovered it and still get goosebumps on absolutely every part of it
🤩🤩
Haha, I've been listening to it a lot since I found it as well.
And then rips into a lead on an aquistic.not jely bean at all.
I love you
Sup
When you try to sing this song yourself & hit those notes, that's when you realise just how great Josh Homme is.
Change it to a key that suits your voice?
I used this song to practice. Its great
It is very tough to hit those falsettos and then go back into a lower note.
(For me, at least)
nice.
I’ll bet that’s why they live in C Standard tuning!
such an underrated voice that is.
Underrated band 4sure
I know right! His voice is truly amazing.
yourcrapp really? I mean sure they aren't pop stars but there pretty damn well known.
Donovan Marsen pretty sure he means Queens doesn't get the proper respect they deserve from outside their fan base. I agree 100 percent.
I've always thought he was kind of Bowie-esque.
"Do you know who you really are / are you sure it's really you?" THIS LINE SLAYS ME EVERY TIME
me too !!!!! COMPLETELY!!!!!
So am I the only one who wants an acoustic album of their best songs? Foo fighters did it back in 2006 and it was great
JigSaW279 it’s a little late but some guy on RUclips uploaded a 40 song collection of acoustic live performances.
phisheswonder link?
Good god can you even imagine acoustic “in the fade”? Or even “In the hollow”?
@JigSaw279; No you're not :). And a live extended version album. I really love the long versions they perform on stage sometimes.
@lazerdisck; They did both in 2007. It's in the collection Phisheswonder mentioned.
I just wanted to point out what an underated singer Josh is. That's all.
He's a pure musical genius if he writes all these songs on his own. He also does complex singing and quite complex guitaring at the same time which is almost impossible to do.
+Maarten van Rossem Lezingen I think QOTSA is one of the most innovative rock bands of the last 15 years at least. They never duplicate what they've done on their last record and always produce some really unique shit, and they've stayed relevant to this day. Not a lot of bands can say that.
Jakob Winter
It's not really they though, mostly he (Josh Homme)
+Jakob Winter not alot of bands only a few (radiohead being one of them) - I enjoy ...Like Clockwork - but my favorite will always be Songs for the Deaf
Not to forget that it all started with Kyuss - how sad I was when they quit, how amazed I was, when they reappeared as qotsa . I'm getting old, btw..
McConaughey + Kravitz = QOTSA Drummer
+Igor Ilić Mr. Incredible = Josh Homme
holy shit i went to comment this exact post
+Igor Ilić + Gary Dourdan
imaplathite omg!hahah, great!
Hahaha! you're so right!
I don't think many people realize how much of a masterpiece this band is honestly....
QOTSA is just one of the last great band in rock history. Among the greatest.
I would love your input on our last video from our first album. It got the attention of one of my heroes Joe Bouchard (ex bass player founding members of BÖC) who is following us on Soundcloud but returns from people who likes same music is always the best. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me. Keep rockin' ruclips.net/video/i1fVRW6z3n4/видео.html and Happy new year
Far, far more than do Kyuss...Queens have loads of videos in the millions of views.
Love em to death
don't worry :D The People know ..maybe you don't know that they know :)
Their live shows are some the absolute best I have ever seen across many genres
How does one become the lead maracas for QOTSA. That is what I aspire to be.
Mynor Rodriguez First you have to become the drummer.
You need a PhD in Phylosophy and Liberal arts and require to work at least 3 years with Black Sabbath
Be a fucking badass drummer first like Theodore.
Really speaks to how immensely talented John is to be the backup for one of the greatest bands of all time. Really bummed he’s basically written out of Villains
Hshahahahhaha
0:13
I love it when Troy tries to be funny, but no one's laughing at his jokes and you can see in his face this expression of "c'mon guys, i AM funny!". Hilarious:D
creepy and cringy
@@claudiomartella243 I don't think so, it's just funny really.
@@claudiomartella243 ?. I would actually think you're kind of creepy and cringy if that's the way your brain thinks that you think that guy was being creepy I'm kind of messing with you but why would you say that man peace love you
@@victor-non-victimbear-652 😬
That's the best part of the video!! It's a great rendition of the song but my fave bit is the banter at the start
at 3:52 Josh Homme is just blown away by his own voice...
bahahahahahahahaha
LOLOL
The whole song I kept track of the time to see what you were talking about and I laughed the rest of the song lol
Holly shit hahahahahahahahahahahah
It looks more to me like he didn't catch the high note and made a "damn I fucked up" face :D It's the other singer who sang the high note.
How come this only has 6.5 million views when I’ve watched this 7 million times.
Years later and I am still OBSESSED with this version of the song
You are not alone
Yep
Wow indeed, I return to this version regularly, but did not realise that it is now 9 years old in the meantime, still one of the greats!
SAME!!!
Me too!
I came, I saw, and then I came again...
You came, unlike Josh
Veliyana Tsvetanova Perhaps, but I'm sure Josh would like to "make it wit chu, anytime anywhere".
Ohh like cumming! Like aahhhh!!!
i came i saw than i Michigan lol
I hope you cleaned up after yourself
One of those rare moments when a band casually busts out an acoustic version that's better than the original just to show off their chops.
yes they are very talented :)
this is one of the most underrated song ever made...
Homme's falsetto on the chorus is just out of this world
The dude with the egg shaker is living my dream !!!
Not much to do when you're the drummer and your band is playing an acoustic set
MrNivaro34 shoulda been a cowbell.
fragglet he should have had a cajon! They're wonderful for acoustic sets
I think I could be the guy who does the "Shaaaa" in 2:21
The dude like you call him is one if not the best rock Drummer on the planet . But not Much drum on this one genius......
Goddamn, his fucking voice shocks me every time. I always just assume an artist sounds different live, and they won't sing the song the same for various reasons, but fuck he does it just like the studio version and it's just beyond excellent. Awestruck is the only way to describe how I feel when I watch them do live shows on here. If I saw them in person, I'd likely stand there like a moron as my jaw hangs open from how fucking amazed I'd probably be.
I love you
You, me and a lie.
Silence is closer.
We’re passing ships in the night.
?
Vlastimil Koupil
It's lyrics that I like from the song they are playing on the video here.
PhillipHunsberger
I know...But why you write this?
Vlastimil Koupil cuz he's awesome
PhillipHunsberger I get it. Just had that experience with someone. A narcissist.
They must have forgotten to bring a bass or something because the entire setlist Michael is just sitting there bobbing his head lol
Jarrett doesn't help that the tambourine is on the floor
If he was capable of playing a stand-up acoustic bass, I'm sure he would have. Now THAT would be cool to see/hear. Thing is, without frets he might have a difficult time.
Acoustic basses are also a thing. But yeah it would be cool to see him with an upright bass!
BoboButYouCanCallMeTom COOL! Sweet Mother of Christ. Thank you. I had not seen an acoustic bass before googling right now, 'cause of your comment! So, why didn't he use one, would you think? Then we'd have had four functioning musicians (and a drummer LOL)
Haha, no problem! I don't know why they didn't use one, in the new The Way You Used To Do Live from MONA they did.
I love that josh is able to be lead singer while playing all the intricute guitar playing live
That jacket is sick
:D
I've seriously been hunting it down on the Internet. A German girl I go to school with bought a similar jacket when she was in Philly. I was so freakin' jealous.
*****
Quite sure it's a Barbour quilted jacket. Or similar brand.
lol .... awesome tune!!
it is, pretty sure it´s suppose to reflect how good this kick ass acoustic version sounds :)
That 12 string really brightens up the ENTIRE song! I love it!
I sat by the ocean and drank a potion, baby to erase you. best line of the song
It cannot be underestimated how hard it must be to play this song live, never mind unplugged and acoustic. And somehow Josh manages to make it sound this good. Outrageous band.
This is the best version in my opinion, it express clearly the feelings that this song brings..
Ok so can we just say Josh’s voice is amazing? Underrated? I can’t get over how good this is!
Hard for me to imagine a world without QOTSA they have had such an influence on my life.
Me too...
Me too...
I just found them from watching joe rogan podcast. they sound great
Jon: “Is this almost over? I have a volleyball game to get to!”
Mikey: “I really wish I bought that acoustic bass”
😂 Seriously haha that would have been cool to see!
Mikey has vocal duties to do, all they could give Jon was a shaker of marijuana seeds
How has it taken me 9 years to see this? Incredible performance of an underrated song. And the cutaways to a room full of professional musicians and critic just sitting there...priceless.
Every fucking time i heard QOTSA my head explodes ... this guys are fucking awesome.
lol, that face when he runs out of air at 3:53
I’ve watched/listened to this 50+ times over the years. Just an amazing rendition.
61 here
How could that audience be so calm?? I would have been beside myself!
I think it is very un-cool when someone is interrupting a masterpiece performance. This isn't Britney Spears, you know. When I listen to that kind of live music and someone is fucking clapping hands I want to slap that person in the face. Or maybe punch.. .dunno. I want to listen to the musicians not some shit noise. So all together, in my opinion that was perfect audience how apparently appreciate proper music. Catkisser - cool nick. :-)
TheBalcerman thumb up
TheBalcerman ^this
Pure respect dude.
Really though I would have started crying like a 6 year old at a one direction concert
I love how John Theodore just sits back and grooves along
This song is perfect ❤️❤️❤️
No denying that ...

Vita Ruseckiene Couldn't agree more
+Vita Ruseckiene I agree.
Agree
And it warms my heart to know after all these years in the game Jon finally has a loving forever home
A mad drummer, loved him from tmv
Love how he interrupts. "thanks a lot Troy!" then ignores him when he replies "well there we go then!"
One of the greatest songs ever written.
Josh Homme's voice is heaven 💎❤️💎 Queen of the Stone Age thanks for creating such badass music that makes my soul dance 🤘🏼❤️🤘🏼
Amandine L. I second that beautiful sentiment!!!💚💚💚💚
😊❤️🤘🏼
😍
The opening line to this song is one of their best
All I can say is I'm thankful Josh is here since David Bowie is gone.We can keep looking forward to new and interesting music from this man for years to come, hopefully.BTW , loved Like Clockwork!!!!!!
Josh Homme and Queens are my boys. Top 5 favorites bands of all time.
This is better then the original !
Such a great performance. Funny when Josh cut Troy down at the very start before he got carried away on a live recording coke induced rant 😄 a true front man
A very special man and a very underrated band.
I think Josh and Dave Grohl have a lot in common, they should make an accoustic album together with the voltures. This is fucking epic.
Merry christmas to you all out there!
bno..al menos está them crooked vultures asdad :v
Dave Grohl is a no talent ass clown riding off the coat tail of Kurt Cobain
@@brettbmtsu1 well... thanks for making me cringe at my 20 year old self
Merry Christmas, 9 years later.
Now that you're nearly thirty, is this a reference to Them Crooked Vultures?
Only just found this tonight and have already played it around 45 times.. Fuck me, does live music ever get better than this.. ??
yes. it gets better. watch no reservations episode 7x13. rip anthony
@@Vyncent1234 Will do, cheers buddy
Time wounds all the heals as we fade out of view..... Love it
I've watched this vid like 40 million times over the years. How are they all so calm?
Same!!! I've watched this beautiful masterpiece by qotsa a thousand times. Who could sit so calm in front of such masters of music?
It's an acoustic set, so audience is trying to be quiet. Plus they're probably speechless at the masterpiece they're witnessing.
2018, still the best song ever
Quite possibly my favourite music vid of all time. Please never take this down!
Jon is having a great time back there lol
If I was in this audience, I'd be watching it back likely on this day and many others with either sadness because I didn't show enough appreciation in the crowd- sitting there mesmerized in silence..
Or a fantastical session of rock-out-ism.
This is what the most important musicians have to offer, and I just hope the overall fame and love they get is payment enough- because i've never paid for music in my life and it hurts that I've never been able to "afford" to.
Josh is singing just beautifully here. They're amazing :)
One of the greatest breakup songs
this is simply exceptional.....shows the true talent of this band
This song is a future classic but currently underappreciated. QOTSA FOREVER!
I've listen to this song like 300 times over the past maybe 3 months
perhaps the best acoustic version of a QOTSA track ever...or any track for that matter
Even better live than on the album. sik as fuk!
it'sorgasmic eh... i can't get rid of my boner lol
This is actually just as good as the album version! Go queens!
Exactly... I love every version of this song!!!!! With the acoustic it is very clear lyrically... nice!!!!!
bloody hell josh's voice is like liquid gold here, such great tone.
This is hands down the most positive encouraging comment section I’ve ever seen. Legendary
I just noticed this watching it again, at 3:52 Josh almost falls from his stool. I fuckin love this band.
a masterpiece, wow, can't believe how good this is....
🤩🤩
Fucking hell, he's absolutely nailed the vocals here. 😮
It's always been hard for me to pick favorites, especially when it comes to music..but QOTSA is absolutely one of them I've realized over the years. Something about Josh's songwriting style, his vocals etc has always resonated with me big time. Legendary talent he was gifted with.
I've mostly checked out of modern rock. WIth this exception. Homme is amazing.
Their music is all about grooves, sonics and brilliant compositions.
I love this version 🖖
"Time wounds all the heals." That's writing Wright there.
One of my favourite queens of the Stone Age songs... I’m hear in 2019... still perfect! 😘
jenni Bean I’m with you there 🤘🏻❤️
My manz is the back is literally playing the apple 😂😭😭
Totally goosebump worthy, great harmonies, beautiful structure and timbre, great solo voice, all round it’s a winner chicken dinner
Thanks a lot Troy!!
Over the time since this album come out, this is become my favorite song of pretty much all time. It's really fucking good. And this version is cool as hell.
Saw them when I was 26 in 2007 when they played their era vulgaris album and by far the best concert I've witnessed!
This song helped me get over a 20year marriage to start again ...thanks
In these videos, Theodore is the king of tamarri. Great!
One of my favourite songs to sing to myself (and to all the apartments nearby...)
Letra
I sat by the ocean
And drank a potion
Baby, to erase you
Face down in the boulevard
Yet I couldn't face you
There ain’t no use in crying
It doesn't change anything
So baby, what good does it do?
Your friends, they all sympathize
Maybe I don’t need them to
Imagined I'd be your one and only
Instead I'm the lonely one
You, me and a lie
Silence is closer
We’re passing ships in the night
There’s nowhere to run away
Said: Boy, if you want love
You’ll have to go and find it with someone new
Do you know who you really are?
Are you sure it’s really you?
Lies are a funny thing
They slip through your fingertips
Because they never happened to you
Time wounds all the heals
As we fade out of view
Imagined I'd be your one and only
Instead I'm the lonely one
You, me and a lie
Silence is closer
We’re passing ships in the night
You, me and a lie
Silence is closer
We’re passing ships in the night
Into the light, left with nowhere to hide
Closer and closer
We’re crashing ships in the night
Thanks!
guy in behind Josh knows how good this is.
I listen to this song at least 10 times a day why the fuck cant I stop?!
WarriorRebel7876 Lol dude me too. My friend just turned me on and I love this song.
WarriorRebel7876 Because its a great song maybe?
Were you able to stop?
Awesome. Ive wanted to see them in concert for at least ten years. With their new tour... Im stuck in a military base on an island thats on the other side of the world. Nice.
awww .. poor you, thank god for you tube then ! I feel your pain !!! lucky me ..their headlining Reading festival. I will stick it to them from you !!!
Whoa, this song must sound 10x better given how far away you are.
His voice keeps getting more beautiful
theodore rocking it back there. doing... whatever it is he's doing
This is an incredibly awesome band that deserves more airplay.
My absolute favorite QOTSA song. It's brilliantly written and performed. I could listen to it on repeat for hours (sometimes I do). I love Foo Fighters, but why aren't the QOTSA as well known, played and popular as the Foos? Both bands are amazing.
Everytime I come back to this video I'm amazed all over again at just how dialed in the guitars are
He even sings amazingly in person
I was literally thinking about Queens of the Stone Age today and how I saw them live twice and how awesome they were and I was wondering how Josh Is doing? And then I. Hear this on the radio and when I RUclips it? I find this video, how cool is this!
That’s pretty much what manifestation is all about
I can't get enough of this version of such a great song!
This intro is the absolute greatest guitar lick of the past 2 decades hands down. I'm asking them to play this at my funeral
This is one of the best QOTSA songs ever written.
Awesome! I often wonder how they can perform to this degree in front of a half asleep audience lol
Josh es uno de los genios de nuestra época....tenemos suerte de disfrutarlo!!! a él y a mucha gente que orbita a su alrededor pero tiene una gravedad propia (talento)....que gran regalo es ese...brutal amigos!!!
