- ENGLAND'S FIRST WILD BEAVERS IN OVER 400 YEARS! In August 2020, the first legally sanctioned reintroduction of an extinct native mammal to England was issued. This legal status was given to the iconic beaver which is now permanently residing on the River Otter in Devon. To celebrate this incredible news, I decided to head down to the River Otter to see the wild beavers for myself! The success of the beaver trial could be an extremely exciting start for the future of rewilding and reintroduction projects throughout the rest of the UK.

What was that beat called at the end of the video??
I've seen quite a few hairy beavers. Big brown beavers.
No but I hope to see them someday ☺️
Driving back from North Devon last week, my late night route was deviated from the Devon Link road (A361)due to road works. A very confused set of directions led me through Exmoor and on towards Somerset to get back to the M5 and back into Devon. My point being that whilst driving across Exmoor, i had to swerve for what i thought was a big hedgehog until i realised how wide it's tail was. I say, i swerved but there was a car trailing me into the dark which might not have!
The reason for mentioning this is because maybe night closures of roads can impact on wildlife and could be kept away from sensitive areas.
There was a few stories 5-6 years ago about otters being released into the wild in East Devon and within a few weeks on my early morning run to Sidmouth i saw a flattened Beaver carcase! It seems nowhere is rural enough these day's.
I am not from Britain and never realized that this subcontinent of Europe has been so deprived of wildlife. Congratulations on the success with beavers. Do not stop here, you all have a long way to go. :-)
Yes! Next the lynx and the wolf
It’s been announced that bison, golden eagles and wildcats will all be reintroduced to the uk. Along with further reintroduction of beavers :)
@@therealkermitthefrog4229 Golden Eagles and wildcats have always been in Scotland.
@@craigharkins4669 Yh I think they’re aiming more at england and wales since they’re more urban
This is fantastic, I really enjoyed it! So good to see Britain start to get more comfortable with rewilding
And here in Scotland land owners are shooting beavers despite the fact they're protected. I'm glad the English are actually proactively helping the beaver population thrive. I hope we'll eventually do the same here
Beautiful, and so inspiring! Thank you - I needed this inspiration!
You are so welcome! I am glad it was of value to you!
Well done Roxy, that is SUCH a great little video, well explained, beautifully shot and put together. I'm in awe. I should definitely put 'seeing beavers in the wild' onto my bucket list.
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it :) yes I would highly recommend going to see them, it’s pretty jaw-dropping watching them!
ROXY - - YOU ROCK!!!
This was so good! Nicely put together :)
I love the content of your channel! Best wishes from Chile!
Awesome video! Great shots!
At long last! Such a great news!! Wonderful video ...thank you!...Beavers are so so hard working and so so cute! Could watch them for hours...:-)
Love your beaver Roxy! 🥰❤💙💚🤎💜
Really enjoyed this! Subscribed
You do a fantastic job, and quite LOVELY to say the least. I enjoy your videos.
I've seen beavers in Vistula river in Warsaw from the wild island, which is sometimes showing up there - very close to the city center. Named this place "Beaver Island" for friends ;)
Love your energy and all the beavers in the world!
Your best film to date!!
Brilliant stuff! Not sure I'll ever be able to get over the confusion I always feel hearing 'River Otter beavers'. If only they'd managed to inhabit the River Beaver 😂
Great stuff
love this video! I can't wait to see the reintroductions of Beavers into Cheshire as well!
Wonderful, thank you for your enthusiasm.
Amazing. Beautifully made. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much, my friends Pedro Furtado and Charlie Dean helped me with this one!

Damn i m n love with ur expeditions.. take me along❤️
I have seen them a couple of times now on the Otter, they are intriguing creatures.
Nothing like wild beaver
Going to see them today
This is great and wonderful and massing
Thank you :)
In my home country I have actually come across snaps with a few drops of castoreum added for flavor .. it is very very strong stuff. Beavers are amazing animals perhaps mostly for their ability to add large woody debris in water streams. Their dams are almost overhyped, sure, dams are important too but the felled trees scattered about waterways are immensely valuable for biodiversity as well.
Cheers for Beavers 🍺
As an American following this story I've gotta say, the person who surreptitiously released those beavers is a hero. If you believe in something don't ask for permission. Beg for forgiveness..... Very American attitude.
p.s. - I hope that doesn't sound slightly fascistic. Sadly, as an American in 2021, I feel the need to make sure. Not a Trumpist, just a lover of freedom. #BeaverFreedom
Hello, what is the best area there to watch them? Thank you for this video :-)
We've got loads of beavers here in the Canadian wild. They're a wonderful addition to your ecosystems. They're fun to watch too, they're not shy animals.
Well, beavers may be problematic animals. I'm from Poland and about 200 thousands beavers live in my country, many people here complain about these rodents, especially farmers and municipal officials because beavers from big cities destroying local parks, river dikes and urbanized riverside areas.
Great video! My friend on the rights says hi stranger
Hi love the video,do you know if beavers migrated down south of England.I saw one yesterday but no one believed me
The camera equipment advertisement 🤣
It wasn’t being advertised actually, I have no affinity to any of the camera brands shown. Just thought it was a cool montage as people always ask what kit videos are shot with!
This is great! Roxy, you really need to improve the audio quality though. Maybe something's wrong with your lavalier mic?
It's so low and muffled that I think there's something seriously wrong with the gear, makes the whole wonderfully shot video hard to watch.
Thanks for the feedback. Yup, sadly it is a pretty bad mic (just the £50 RODE lavelier one), but unfortunately I am still a student with no job so it's all I can afford for the time being. As soon as I can upgrade I 100% will haha
I have no idea what this person's talking about. Sounds fine. Don't even trip. I'm an American who's been following this story and your video is as good as any on the subject. Special mention to the footage. I saw that guy with his pants (trousers) off, in the water. He got some great shots.
Video starts at 3:30. Holy moly.
You guys are like.. Super rich. You've got very expensive equipment 😮
You would of fitted in well in our uni course, wildlife media, its conservation and photography
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thanks for being such a star with all the filming!
See them all the time in Yorkshire 😂😂😂
Does the river Otter hadlve any otters?
Can beavers and otters live together?
They often do live together in the wild. Well "together" in that otters are known to live around beaver ponds.
stump at 1:49 looks more like it was cut by a saw. Could've been beavers, just doesn't look like a gnawed stump
it's just the angle of the camera
😘😘😘❤️❤️
This is amazing. I'm currently in sixth form and I'm looking to have a career with animals. Any advice for me? Anyways, I low your content, keep up the great work!!
Are these north American beavers introduced to these places
I believe I saw somewhere that they used beavers bred in cavity and released into the wild to minimize the possible disease transmission vectors.
no, I believe they are eurasion ones from bavaria
I was hoping you'd explain how something that's been extinct for 400 years is suddenly alive and living in Devon :/
if they bring bears back i’ll shit myself
I showed my vegan daughter your channel now she wants to be a zoologist
you're very pretty
Remove the annoying music and it would be a good video
