      Thank you for this, as a Scottish Muslim woman in hijab, I connected with this and brought a smile to my face when they got into the water. I having been working in the outdoor sector for the last 10 years and promoting natural landscapes and hiking to Muslim & minority women, but still on my own personal journey off building my confidence off accessing the outdoors. Wild swimming has been on my bucket list for the last year and watching this has gave me the confidence that "I am Capable." I also love the fact the whole production has been made by women. I would love to connect with the team/cast to engage with Scottish Muslim women North off the border.

    An absolutely beautiful film about the importance of this safe space Amira has created. It's incredibly inspiring how sisterhood and the connection to nature can change our whole perception of life and what we can achieve. To more women who support each other, let's platform and celebrate them.

    I love that film!
    I travel and hike with my family of 7 and sometimes we get intrigues looks from others, but it doesn't bother me, I smile and keep walking. Being close to nature is amazing, although I am not brave enough to swim in the cold waters. But I totally feel the same way about reaching the top of a mountain! And this film is so well made it's really beautiful 💚

    Exquisitely filmed and very moving. However, it always grates on me when Islam is 'Bigged-up', making out it's liberating and this is proof of it, etc. No, it's intrinsically oppressive. Thankfully, you're unlikely to be killed by leaving it in this country, unlike the ominous threat elsewhere in the world.

    Excellent photography. but i'm not sure what this film is trying to say. The description says 'After experiencing injustice when hiking in the English countryside', what does that actually mean? There are no laws preventing muslim women from being in the countryside. Amira wants to create a 'safe space' for muslim women but she doesn't say why it currently isn't a 'safe space'. It's a little confusing.

    • @3DSgeek

      Because it's nonsense.

      There may be no laws preventing these women from being outside, but that does not stop Islamophobes from acting badly. It's a very uncomfortable experience and there is safety in numbers.

  • @svw1899vfl

    I dont get it. What is the point, breaking up stereotypes? When i go hiking, i do it for myself. These women say that they are not opressed and make a big thing out of normal activities such as swimming and hiking.

    • @jewelweed6880
      @jewelweed6880 Год назад

      So other muslim women feel like maybe they can do it too? Hiking is not a normal activity for the average Muslim family. It's almost foreign to be out there.
      Muslim women cannot wear the standard bathing suits because they are not modest enough for them. How often do you see women in burquinis at the pool or the beach? There are online companies to order special swim attire, like in the video. But fewer stores unless you live in a Muslim country. Personally, I can't trust the fit of anything unless I try it on - and I need to know I am happy with how it looks, so I haven't been swimming in years. And can you imagine how it is hard to stand out so much (sometimes it's just feeling like everyone is looking) like a woman in a Muslim swim outfit among bikinis and one pieces? When I had one, I felt so out of place. Some women are bolder and it doesn't phase them. Sometimes you can wait out the feeling, but the person needs to give it the time.
      Then there are the Muslims that don't see any swim outfit as modest enough. You can get heck from your own community. So yes, there are reasons it is nice and helpful to be part of a group of kindred spirits.
      Did you know there are groups in America whose mission is to encourage other black people to get out and learn to hike and camp and backpack? There is a stereotype that hiking is for white people. Is there no point in encouraging them to buck the stereotype?

  • @michaelbardill5310
    @michaelbardill5310 2 года назад

    Why are these people making such a BIG thing out of what is quite a normal activity. Why not just join an everyday hiking group, rather make a religious statement. The main aim here is to make a religious political statement. Why oh why did you fly a "Palestinian flag on a walk? I don't fly 🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱🇮🇱 when out hiking. What is next? Muslim only safe spaces in our National Parks? As an ex Peak District National Park archaeologist and volunteer ranger, I find all this quite disturbing. Next thing you know, there will be a planning application to build a mosque on Arbor Low or Nine Ladies.......🤪🤪🤪🤪

    • @jewelweed6880
      @jewelweed6880 Год назад

      Lots of white, nonmuslim people out hiking and camping, compared to Asians and black people. 8 years hiking and such and I have never seen a covered Muslim woman hiking. There are also black groups that do much the same thing, minus the overtly religious stuff. They belong out there too, but they don't feel that way. The black communities (in America, at least) are not brought up with this stuff. So their feelings and concerns are different from yours.
      Outdoor activites like these are way less common in Muslim families and many people don't step far from the way they were raised, so doing this is not normalized for them. Indeed, these ladies could even get some backlash from other muslims for doing this.
      When you dress foreign to the societal norm you stand out and get looks and it can be intimidating. It's bad enough in the day to day. There are people who would try to harm Muslims or give them a hard time because of it. Islamophobia and all that. It can make you a little paranoid, you don't know when it will happen and here you are doing something foreign to your culture, it’s easier to go with people like you because you won't stand out so much.
      Muslim women, especially covered, tend to want to stay in women only groups. That crosses out mixed sex outdoor groups. Muslims pray 5 times a day and it is an amazing experience outside in nature. It makes breaks for that easier when everyone is on the same page about when. If they want to stop and revel in where they are, they can say religious stuff and they are on the same page and they can experience it without questions. No explanations needed to someone who isn't muslim. Not always, but people can be curious and ask questions, and that's fine but it is also nice to be able to just be yourself without any of that.
      I wish there was a group like that for me. I am alone. I don't make connections easily, so I don't have any Muslim friends. This group would be a way to meet other Muslim women and make friends because we actually have things in common. I'm too "wild" to connect with the indoorsy Muslim women, we don't have much in common besides religion, but I do want some muslim friends.
      So in conclusion, for the women involved it is a big deal. You are a white man who doesn't know life as a religious Muslim, covered, female. You viewed it from your perspective with your life experiences. These are not universal.

    • @michaelbardill5310
      @michaelbardill5310 Год назад

      @@jewelweed6880 Firstly it taken you nine months to reply! Hilarious. Secondly, I am not white! Why is it the responsibility of others in the wider community to cater to your needs, why not attempt to integrate more, most other overseas people/communities have. You know fully well there is a religious & political edge to all this. As usual there is the fetishisation of the "victim" here. I have four devout muslim friends, they all dress in Western style & are involved in wider community groups.
