    ...I mean in a traditional sense of "How Wifeable am I based off my cooking skills" on a scale of Hottie from Flavor of Love microwaving the chicken to Pattie LaBelle and the Pattie Pie... I'd say I'm at 7.5 like I can cook. Like I got like 5 solid recipes I got down pact (including this Japanese curry dish). I can eyeball the measurements, etc. Everything else though? lol I need the ingredients every step of the way, like I couldn't of pulled off this recipe from memory alone

    OH GIRL! I'm screaming laughing! 😂😂 for next time, you can blend the onion with the pepper. you only really need as much oil as it'll take to coat the whole pan.
    I love making stews. whether it's Nigerian style, Jamaican style, any kind. and macaroni and cheese.
    oh and pizzas, because when you make pizza you have a lot of room to experiment before it becomes terrible.
    I shoki'ed right along with you lol

    The stew came out good! Im Nigerian-American and I learned how to make it from RUclips. A woman called Nigeriancooks. She makes everything. Next time fry the tomatoes until the oil is red. Then save the oil for next time. It will give it more flavor. My favorite dish to cook is Fried Chicken. Im the chicken whisper! Ok I feel like this is novel somehow. Mmm kay bye lol

    Bok choy stew is my favorite stew to make. My husband dont eat vegan but when I made that last time the damn pot disappeared like a kidnapping. Im screaming, "I chopped ingredients for over an hour by hand, I made a weeks worth of stew and it gone day 2!! where is my stew!!! He mumbles sheepishly " I ate a lil bit of it " ( mumbles what could be taken as I dont know where the rest is but incoherently cuz he know he lieing) ate my whole doggone pot! Dude ate it for breakfast lunch dinner, brunch and midnight snack, lol. Took him a month before he openly said it was so good to him he could not stop eating it. So instead of being mad, Im proud now. Im gonna make him chop the ingredients next time so I can make it.

    I'm basic af when it comes to cooking but my friends that have had my cooking absolutely love it. I love marinating chicken thighs (since I'm on a fitness journey I cook chicken breast now) in lemon pepper stuffs and bake it. Then I sautée spinach (or kale) with some mushrooms and season that up too. Ooh! And I love making shredded chicken tacos. Nothing special but my friends love that too.

    I JUST made bibimbap for the first time today! All on my own! And I've only eaten it once before lol. It turned out reaaaally good. The recipe is really simple, but it was way more steps than I anticipated because all the ingredients are cooked separately and I am the worst at preparing multiple corresponding ingredients at once lol. Burnt some sesame seeds.

    LOL.. love this. That actually isn't enough oil!!. Probably need about 1/2 cup. When you cook the stew long enough (20-30min) it will start to separate/clump and blend properly. You shouldn't taste the tomatoes acidity. Couple tips - all that water is from the tomatoes (squeeze out the water/seeds). Use more red peppers than tomatoes, one medium tomatoes is enough - 2 large red peppers, then use 1/2 can of tomato paste to punch flavor and color. It is a lot of oil, but as my mom says in her best Naija accent "scoop around it". Ps. the oil needs to be hot..like add the tomato mixture, but have a lid ready to cover for splashing.

    Lately I've been into chicken and rice. I just bake chicken thighs with Italian dressing (used to be oil and garlic, but it smelled better than it tasted) and and boil some 10 minute rice. I also have a recipe for this pasta with a tomato cream sauce that I add shrimp to. I usually make enough of one or the other to last a few days.

    Congrats on that stew! You only get better with practice. I cook tomato stew, spinach stew, ginger chicken soup, groundnut/PB soup(don't knock it) and jollof rice when I get a hankering for the cuisine my parents raised me on. Can't go wrong with some good plantains and african yams/cocoyams if you can find them. By the way I'm ghanaian american. Please feel free to look up Ghanaian recipes. Some are similar to Nigerian recipes but don't tell your Nigerian friends you're looking up Ghana food. They're jealous that our jollof is fire (just kidding but they might shun you, lol)

    I love your videos!! I too am a Kenyan American but also honorary Nigerian. My first time making stew was basically the same, lol!! Try using palm oil sometimes, it gets that west african flava!

    i started crying for you when i saw you put tomato without oil or onion... but hey it wasn't disgusting and that's a success! favourite thing to make (although i don't like to cook) is beignets...

  • @ODY0319
    @ODY0319 8 лет назад

    Next time you make it you should try putting your tomatoes and peppers in a pot and add a little bit of water to steam them. This will save you time on blending and also have less chunks in the stew

    I am crying, this was so funny. Strangely enough I was eating rice and stew while watching this! Those peppers you mentioned are called scotch bonnets (though we just grew up calling them pepper, never knew there was another kind until I was older LOL). I can through it down in the kitchen!! I think stew is actually my fav thing to cook just cos I can never get bored of it. That or my pineapple chicken curry. Man I love food!

    L O L!!! I can only cook if I follow structured recipes. When I try to put on own spin on things, whack-a-dee-dack-dack!!
    My favorite thing to cook is waffles, cause it's easy, quick, and I get to get waffles at the end.

    I've never seen stew in a colander before. That shouldn't be possible! This video nearly gave me a panic attack.
    I'll still let you feed the kids Kenyan food tho.

      y'all still aren't explaining it!! lolol i thought it was supposed to be thick??? you LIKE it to be watery enough to slide through a strainer??? i'm so lost pls help haha

    • @DoyinOyen
      @DoyinOyen 8 лет назад +8

      Haha, I told ya, blend it until you get a sauce like consistency! Which I think you did, but then that got messed up when you tried to "dehydrate" it first??
      So if you try this again, heat up the oil first and THEN add your blended stew in the pot to start cooking right away. I also blend my onions with the peppers and tomatoes, not a fan of the texture of cooked onions in stew.
      Also, I didn't see this in the vid, but I'm assuming you added seasoning to the stew? For more authentic flavors, hit up an african store and throw some maggi cubes in there. Or I can give you some.

    Hehehe! Well saved! Somewhat of a crazy ride, but at least you got there in the end :). What I like to cook (or more accurately what I like to eat, but if I don't cook, won't get to eat it) is toss up between Ghanaian waakye with waakye stew and good old tried and true jollof chicken and rice with fried plantain.... Mmm *heads to the fridge*.
