There is a pink lace dress my momma bought me by Libby Pulitzer or whatever . She bought that hoe at TJ Maxx for a smooth $40 (retailed for like $200 or some such foolishness). I've owned that dress since I was 17, like when she bought it for me it was a hair too big and she was like "You gon thicken up, and even if you don't it's passable" and she was right. I still keep that dress because it's timeless. It would have been lit in 1920, it would have been lit in the 1960s and it was lit in 2008. Last time I wore it was at my sister's wedding in 2014 and people were complimenting me like I just bought it or something. My mom is really good at finding those nice timeless classic pieces for me ironically. She keeps me looking like the best young professional version of myself. I've also been embracing the ideas of minimalism también. The way you sorted your clothes is actually how I've always done it. Every year I get rid of so much stuff.
Minimalist youtuber here. I died at the one sock joke. Some people think this is a contest for who can own the least stuff, and it's really not necessarily about that at all.
Listen... the pants I have on right now are from my middle school days, I'm now 23. They got mad holes everywhere, they're high waters cause I shrunk em in the dryer, the elastic is completely gone, the colors are all faded BUT they spark so much joy I would never get rid of em

I have a raggedy B2K shirt from the original Scream Tour circa 2002 with them and Bow Wow that I went to back in high school. That bad boy is all faded, Lil Fizz face done peeled off, can't even see Omarion's braids anymore, and it's got all kinds of holes. But it's my most comfy sleep shirt, and the one I wear when I'm deep conditioning my hair and looking rough. It's literally gonna have to shred to pieces before I throw it away. The nostalgia runs deep.
this book is real af! i read it one saturday morning in my dorm room, and spent the rest of the day "tidying up" i'm a messy bitch (a hoarder basically) but this book took me from 100 to 0 real quick. Marie was speaking to me! talk about another level of stress shaved off your life!

I think the one item that I've had the longest is a pair on Nine West heels. They are brand new, never been worn, still in the box. At minimum they are 19 years old, and still cute and in style. I always forget about them, until I'm purging. Then I don't want to get rid of them.

I LOVE to clean and often times make a mess to clean up (which drives me crazy). i never thought to clean by category. i usually do a room sometimes with a category combo. Wow, I’m just finding this and I’m just learning about minimalism and this was great! I just chucked my dining room table and the joy I felt from clearing that space is unspeakable! I’m definitely going to get this book and get into my closet.
Savers (and other thrift stores) will give you a receipt for your donations that you can use on your taxes. Make sure to take pics and keep lists of items donated for approximating their *value. (*think yard sale value- as in how much would I pay for this shirt at a garage sale? .99¢ ? ok. good.)
Also H&M accepts & recycles used clothing for fiber. A sales rep said they will give you an H&M coupon for $5? for each bag of clothing you donate. She didn't say how big/small the bag needs to be.

I read it , some parts are a bit strange but I guess it's because Japanese culture is like no other. Took me a week to clear my whole flat, I did that last Easter break and it was totally worth it especially the clothes part! I think the key is to do it in one go.

Not an article of clothing but I still have my first ever toothbrush. The bristles are nasty by now and it's 3 different, screeching, primary colours BUT it's got a fat handle with a bell in it so when you shake it...it jingles. THAT gives me joy.

Great book recommendation. I'd love to be a professional organizer! I love to organize my stuff and others' but can I make stacks doing that, man? It's very modest check I think. Anyway, for now, it remains a hobby to color code folk's button up shirts, garages, kitchens, closets, shoes, etc.
