- I think this was my second sortie in the Bf 109 G-6ASM. I really like that aircraft due to its sleek nose.
The G-6 AS was the answer to the high alt incursions into germany. The 109 plattform needed better high altitude performance against the allies. So they slapped a bigger supercharger on the engine. The bigger supercharger didn't fit into the dimensions of the already bulgy cowling of the G-6.
This time they made the entire cowlsection section bigger and smoother. Finally the guns and the SC fit now under one smooth cowling. This makes the G-6 an AS Variant.
In this sortie I was flying the ASM. Meaning additonally to a bigger SC this G-6 features Water *M*ethanol injection. Allowing for higher manifold pressure and cooling close to the deck.
All in all the performance is somewhere between a late Bf 109 G-6 (or G-14) and a Bf 109 K-4. Only a few design features are missing to make it a G-10. (Tailwheel, different wheel covers)

do you think a 32" 1440p screen would be good for dcs/il2? I'm not sure if the pixel density would be too bad or not for flight sims
depends on the screen i guess. I might want to go for 4k. Just for everything else too.
Hi Sheriff, could you do a video showing how you optimize your setup for the quest3. Got the same GPU, run it via cable and struggle to get nice performance and graphics. Are you running via steam vr and occulus link? Myself I like the spit most, turn fighting sems easier than boom and zoom. Thanks

Aha! Now that's a proper horse.
All of the 109s in game are superb machines. I find them easy to take off and land, despite the narrow track undercarriage and torque. The centreline crankcase cannon makes shooting easier too.
IL2 is still the best combat experience. Way more going on at every KM^2

@@SheriffsSimShack I also have a quest 3 and I'm also getting into il2 vr but I'm having some problems with getting it to work. Do you stream wireless or use a cable?
With a cable. The general setup was no problem for me.
I needed of course some time to find a good compromise between quality and performance and a good setting for recording.
@@SheriffsSimShack I see, I use virtual desktop rn and I'm getting like 35 fps but that might be because my rig isn't that good. Do you think cable as better for low end PC's?
I dont know. I know that you need a fast router for a good high performance wireless connection.
However open composite / openxr is a must for good vr performance.
youtube says this is warthunder instead of IL2 Bodenplate?
Its definitely il2, the look and sound are dead giveaways.
Well we know how diverse is 109G6 early, G6AS, G6 late, G6 erla, G14, G10, K4 etc,

I just nabbed the 109 G-6 on sale and some weirdly masochistic part of me wants to fly it out in Combat Box sometime even though I have Bodenplatte and could just fly out the G-14 or the 190 D-9 I just got. Probably a terrible idea, but it sounds like it could be fun.
Which G-6? The stock G-6 is indeed pain. But I mean there are the G-6 late which is in the right config equivalent to the G-14. The G-6 AS is better than the G-14 when eqipped with MW50.

I really enjoy your videos, but I have a question and a request. Why don’t you have a complete swastika on the tail of your plane, and, if it’s not a violation of any sort, could you put it on you planes to keep them looking 100 percent historical? Thanks in advance, and keep up the great videos!
While I personally wouldn't mind that too much, there are a few issues with that.
1. a fraction of the audience might not like a swastika in their face. While one could rightfull argue that its just history, its still (also rightfully) causing massive poltical and emotional reactions. People might be turning off, or would question my personal politcal orientation. Which is something I totally want to avoid.
2. The symbol is banned in a couple of countries. Not in germany. But in Russia for example.
3. RUclips is able to detect swastikas and is then ranking the video lower
4. I personally dont care. its a symbol. It does not change the plane itself whatsoever. its not making the plane complete. During flight I cant even see it.
5. The skin I am running is a skin included in the game. I have no say if its there or not. I have to delibrately download a skin with a swastika.
I personally dont get that people find it important that a swastika is in the game or on planes. We knew it was there back then, its still laden with emotional and political bagage, so its no wonder that its not displayed in game.
@@SheriffsSimShack with neo nazis still being a thing I can see why people would get upset. And RUclips definitely will tank your video in the algorithm unfortunately. I feel like it’d be weird too to go out of your way to download a swastika skin when you can’t even see it 99% of the time. Unless you were recreating a historical mission and going for accuracy. I feel like that’s just unneeded extra work for something that could possibly negatively impact your great videos. Already don’t have enough il2 creators. Last thing we need is for one of our good ones to start getting questioned. At the end of the day it’s just a game.

Your milage may vary, but yes I think it is worth it. Only backdraw is they left out the ASC powerplant (you only get the ASM(B) engine) of the G14/AS which basically would make it perform like a G10 with DC engine. Maybe they plan to sell the G10 seperately, who knows?

war thunder sim, not all nations fight against all nations
The BR area in Sim is also quite balanced, isn't it?
I have seen multiple times that basically everyone fights every one. The BR ranges are also vast.

so you can choose a SIM server in Warthunder and then you take the one where US vs Germany for example and I haven't had any problems finding such sessions yet
The Br ranges are also fine - a P47D-28 has to compete against a BF109-G10 at most.
in this case the P47 is 4.3 and the G10 is 5.3.
You have a similar mix in IL2, where the P47 even has to compete against a K4 and so on.
so in sim mode i don't think it's that dramatic BR UP/dwon of 1 is more than okay.
@@HobelDcsYeah but that is my critism. The P-47 gets the G-10 at most. But the Bf 109 E-7 or so what ever is 3.3. That is also the case. P-47 vs K-4 was historical. Its not about how hard it is, its about how historical.
@@SheriffsSimShackUp tier can be influenced, if you want to fly with the P47 against K4 in War hunder you can, just take a higher BR into the deck.
But of course, all of this has its limitations and is ultimately not as historical as IL2.

Nope - I dont find it bad really. The footage is as good as it gets with VR. The movements are faster in TIR even. I think some people react to the head bobbing. I dont think I will go back this time.

Why did they drill holes in the canopy frame tube? To reduce weight or was it part of a heater/demisting system?
You might be referring to the screw and bolt holes for the various sections of the canopy frame, and the halves of the tubes that hold the perspex/plexiglass panels.
What vr headset do you use?
You may want to consider looking into a headset microphone, it’s really funny hearing your voice get quieter and echo more as you turn your head toward your 6 lol
I have and already record with the headset mic.
The mic you hear is ofc the fixed one. I dont like the sound of the VRset mic too much. But I could edit it in if the recorded voice gets too quiet.
@@SheriffsSimShack that’s a fair take. Not a whole lot of headset mics are likely to sound great, given the physical limitations of fitting a decent diaphragm into such a tiny capsule, so I don’t blame you. Maybe there’s a way you can blend the signals, or maybe apply a compressor to your existing mic?
