Yeah. I was dumbfounded when the Nuggs grabbed him, and could not figure out how he wouldn't make the team worse. Lately, he's been doing quite well. So surprising.

One of your main gripes with the Lakers has been a lack of athletiscm in the backcourt, and of course I can understand that players like D'lo and Reeves aren't particularly muscular or bouncy, but I feel like I'm missing the point of why that matters so much to the success of the team. Not even being specific to the Lakers, what qualitys do you point to when referring to athletiscm (or lack thereof) in the big picture? Love the show man, thanks for keeping me entertained at work when i cant watch the games
AR is a good athlete imo. He’s fast coordinated and has a tight dribble. He’s just not physically strong and DLo is a bit slow with terrible lateral movement
Ik I would’ve had Tatum top 3 too for sure but his reasoning for why AD is above is valid. AD is doing so much carrying for that team offensively and defensively, they only top 12 with him in defense so I could imagine them without him. But I personally would’ve had Tatum top bc he’s been more “clutch” in clutch situations. And KD over Tatum simply bc KD literally like he said been stealing games it’s insane 😂
Tatum’s big change when it comes to fouls and free throws is how much he’s playing off of both feet near the basket. It’s forcing the refs to make a decision when he’s drawing significant contact, something they could largely ignore when he was playing off one foot with less control.
Think Jokic has reached a point of greatness now, where he’s going to be judged more on his post-season success than his regular-season success. Having said that, he’s been unreal and would deserve to win his 4th MVP. Would also love AD to win a MVP! JT is the only option for 2nd. AD has played well, but his team is 6-4 and lebron is their best player. KD is out for 2 weeks. Meanwhile Tatum carried his team without JB and KP.
Mailbag Question: Is it high time lakers look at Vanderbilt as a trade asset now given he is always out and get a 3 and D player by trading him and DLo?
MAILBAG: Hi Jason, being a coach yourself I'm wondering if there are any coaching related schemes/ideas that can help teams close out games properly. The Pistons are massively improved from last year, but have already blown 2 games to Houston/Charlotte down the stretch and barely squeaked past Atlanta/Miami in a far from convincing display. This has been an issue from last year where the team seems to tighten up & could very well be mental - though in fairness this year they are way more organized & I can see what sets they're trying to run in the 4Q. Given we don't have the offensive firepower to blow teams out, nor the defensive lockdown capabilities to consistently get crucial stops, is there anything schematically that can be done to improve the odds come crunch time, or is it simply a case of the young core figuring it out the more times they find themselves in these positions?
What do you think JB's comp would be in the league now if he was the #1 option. If he was traded to Houston, for instance, with Ime defense and a bunch of young role players and a Borderline star in one of the 45 young players they have. I feel like he would have similar numbers but less impact if he was dropped on the Wolves and swapped out for Ant.
If the cavs maintain one of the top 1-3 records in the league while he maintains his current production he will probably be like 4-6 in mvp conversation just because his numbers have been just OK. I just don't see the best player on the best team winning it unless they end up winning 70 games but that's probably not going to happen.
I would assume quite a lot. The celtics won 64 last year and Tatum was 6th. The suns in 21-22 also won 64 games and that got Booker 4th. Donovan as the cavs best player hasn't been putting up spectacular numbers currently 20th in scoring (10th if you want to go on a per 36 minute basis to adjust for minutes played). They are playing well as a team and not really having any one player dominate which usually doesn't lead to mvp candidates.
Mailbag: Am I crazy but has officiating bee better this year, by which I mean unobtrusive and consistent? Whatever the case, what do you know about changes officials might have made to their practice this year?
He s only 7-8% ish better per 36, he needs to reduce those mins and shoot a bit better from the 2pt range I belive his stats will go ovr down during the course of the season as his mins will go down, but he ll improve his 2 pt shoot and per 36 min ratings to about 11-12% better than his best year Ps: talking about jokic ofc
Can we get jokic some help, damn when we had Carmelo, we traded for AI, Kmart, JR Smith, Billups. They arnt doing anything for him the team was homegrown now it's time to make a few moves so he can compete every year.
Mailbag question: Was the surgery that separated your forehead from Lebrons nuts painful? Not physically, but emotionally because of the distance between yall now.
Jason do you think Jokic when jumper is right that he’s the best offensive player ever? I feel like he is because we’re he catches the ball a lot of times you actually have to send help because inside the free throw line it’s literally a layup for him and he might be the best passer ever there really no answer to guard him I would say he’s slightly better offensively then peek Bron
Joking aside, look at Jokic at the press conferences...dude has clearly lost weight again. Looks like he did the first MVP year when he slimmed down. If he's going to keep this weight, honestly....we're looking at a fourth (should be fifth) MVP.
And yet do you think they would actually give Jokic his fourth? Like maybe if he actually maintained this level of production/winning (which he almost surely won't, because it's absurd), but I can't help but feel like they really don't want to give it to him.
They won't, especially since they'll do their best to help the other teams win. This is a business 1st and foremost. Jokic winning another MVP is bad for business.
@rlh12345 his performance will be deserving of it but the league will fight tooth and nail to make sure this team isn't a top 3 team. Or they'll acknowledge he's having a great season but a different narritave will emerge for a different player. My money is on the field
At this point the only way to take the MVP away from him would have to be a 2 way player. The best version of Giannis or AD can pull it off. Scoring 35ppg is not gonna cut it. You’ll have to change and win games with defense on some nights.
4TH MVP for JOKER is HIGHLY UNLIKELY due to the fwg reasons 1. His team success has to be very good, but this team with overall comp it may not get top 2 posns in west 2. His unselfish nature will preclude him from scoring so high on all times specially in easy games 3. Last but not the least , his previous 3 MVPs clubbed with the fact that he is foreign player will STRONGLY go against him
@ he’s averaging 27/6/3 lol , Tatum is averaging 31/8/5 while his 2nd best player missed 4 games but when he has played has played pretty bad for his standards , and his 3rd best player hasn’t even played a game yet , talking about carrying lol
So the media is going to give him the MVP to Jokic within 10 games so far? Wowww it clearly shows that the media controls who gets the award. Luka had one of the greatest individual seasons ever and didn't win MVP he was robbed because, he's team didn't finish higher in the standings. This year the media is changing the narrative who has the best stats? Haha the game is dead
I've seen all of Lebron.....let's just be honest and say he has peaked higher than Lebron. Just imagine the league if Jokic moved to play with Dwade/Bosh type + underpaid vets rn. Jokic actually deserved five mvps in a row, something Lebron could never sya
(My opinion) Lebron deserved 5 in a row. Jokic is the better offensive player peak for peak, but it is close. Lebron's defense at his peak was elite while Jokic's is average. This puts Lebron above Jokic in my mind, but it's close enough that I don't think your opinion is crazy.
@@rlh12345 Yes but in my eyes, Dwight was the MVP given each of their cirvumstances that year to me where the gap in analytics weren't big enough overwhelm the context of the each candidate. He also had moments all throughout the season where he seemed lost on what to do, which Jokic never displays
@ And what’s AD for the Lakers bro? And without AD, the Lakers look unrecognisable unless Bron reaches into his bag and puts them on his back at age 39. KD got Book and Beal to help with the scoring.

Can we get jokic some help, damn when we had Carmelo, we traded for AI, Kmart, JR Smith, Billups. They arnt doing anything for him the team was homegrown now it's time to make a few moves so he can compete every year.
Put respect on jokic name and don't mention him in these MVP convos.
He's beyond that petty squable.
Mailbag question: Was the surgery that separated your forehead from Lebrons nuts painful? Not physically, but emotionally because of the distance between yall now.
😂
😭😭😭😭
wow.......
Jason do you think Jokic when jumper is right that he’s the best offensive player ever? I feel like he is because we’re he catches the ball a lot of times you actually have to send help because inside the free throw line it’s literally a layup for him and he might be the best passer ever there really no answer to guard him I would say he’s slightly better offensively then peek Bron
if jokic dont win the MVP if he keeps this up the award lost all its credibility and its basically no need to have it anymore.
@@SkiLILs If the race is close he won't get it, but if Nuggets are a top 3 seed and the stats aren't close he will get it.
@rlh12345 his performance will be deserving of it but the league will fight tooth and nail to make sure this team isn't a top 3 team. Or they'll acknowledge he's having a great season but a different narritave will emerge for a different player.
My money is on the field
Jokic not on the top of the iso list bc he gets tripled every play 😭
And he gets hammered with no calls. If the refs called even half the fouls he takes, he'd be averaging 32-34... or more... ppg this year.
@@tonyleukering8832 he would lead in scoring, assists and rebounds
Kyrie ?
At this point the only way to take the MVP away from him would have to be a 2 way player. The best version of Giannis or AD can pull it off. Scoring 35ppg is not gonna cut it. You’ll have to change and win games with defense on some nights.
Don’t even think with that. By all stats Jokic’s defense has been elite this year
@ for sure
Norman Powell is fuming
MV ♾️
Steph
4TH MVP for JOKER is HIGHLY UNLIKELY due to the fwg reasons
1. His team success has to be very good, but this team with overall comp it may not get top 2 posns in west
2. His unselfish nature will preclude him from scoring so high on all times specially in easy games
3. Last but not the least , his previous 3 MVPs clubbed with the fact that he is foreign player will STRONGLY go against him
KD should not be above Tatum , but hey that’s just me ig
me too
Obviously haven't been watching KD carry the suns in the clutch when it matters most. Player with the most clutch time buckets.
@ he’s averaging 27/6/3 lol , Tatum is averaging 31/8/5 while his 2nd best player missed 4 games but when he has played has played pretty bad for his standards , and his 3rd best player hasn’t even played a game yet , talking about carrying lol
@ also Tatum this year in clutch time has been really good too , so for me , just bc you have the most clutch time buckets does not matter to me
Anthony Edward’s
40 points better is mental 😂
No Donovan Mitchell???
Bronny for MVP
The ESPN MVP list is a total joke. Lmfao.
Watched Shai's foul grifting (14 FT) against the Warriors. He doesn't deserve shit. Stoked that Steph showed him up.
Jokic
goatic
People are getting upset that hes playing well 😂😂
So the media is going to give him the MVP to Jokic within 10 games so far? Wowww it clearly shows that the media controls who gets the award. Luka had one of the greatest individual seasons ever and didn't win MVP he was robbed because, he's team didn't finish higher in the standings. This year the media is changing the narrative who has the best stats? Haha the game is dead
You gotta look beyond the 3 basic stats. The advanced stats are more valued these days and Jokic has dominated them the last 5 years.
MVP is just a popularity contest nowadays. “Voter fatigue” lol, this award is a joke now in the NBA
I enjoy your shows but your introduction needs to change... please
MV4
I've seen all of Lebron.....let's just be honest and say he has peaked higher than Lebron. Just imagine the league if Jokic moved to play with Dwade/Bosh type + underpaid vets rn. Jokic actually deserved five mvps in a row, something Lebron could never sya
(My opinion) Lebron deserved 5 in a row. Jokic is the better offensive player peak for peak, but it is close. Lebron's defense at his peak was elite while Jokic's is average. This puts Lebron above Jokic in my mind, but it's close enough that I don't think your opinion is crazy.
@rlh12345 Which five in a row though? I always thought given the injuries on Orlando, Dwight should have been mvp in 2011.
@@jcmaybenot The 5 years in a row Lebron lead the league in PER, WS, WS/48, BPM, and VORP. Just like Jokic has done the past 5 years.
Say it out loud. LeFraud story is dead...😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
AD > KD for me. The defence AD plays for the Lakers is the split decision vote for him for me.
KD is the Suns defensive anchor. His defense is slept on. AD's rim protection is incredible though
@ And what’s AD for the Lakers bro? And without AD, the Lakers look unrecognisable unless Bron reaches into his bag and puts them on his back at age 39. KD got Book and Beal to help with the scoring.
@@zingisamahlasela Chill, did I say anything against AD? As for KD's support team, Book has been ass this year and Beal has been mid at best.
I like balls.
This list is horrible lol... MVP list right now should be 1. Jokic 2. Tatum 3. SGA 4. AD 5. KD
How are you gonna say it’s horrible and give zero explanation? He gave reasoning behind every player, where’s yours?
@@zatzeke326 It's called watching the games
@@SkullEZClap that’s not an explanation. It’s okay if you lack literacy skills to articulate your position.
It'd obviously not that horrible as you agreed on the players you just value slightly different things to have 2-5 in a different order.
Why is this tatum or Shae persons in front of steph?
Its real 🌈 in here about Jokic, damn
Awww, you have a rainbow in your comment. That's so precious
@xXStretch79Xx I ain't the only one that's for sure
i mean what do u want people to say that hes good? hes doing insane things it doesnt even make sense
