Bro you are just awesome. Love your passion from the old and true Blink. Big hugs from Brazil. Blink is also my favourite band. This year i was wandering what is my favourite band, and i realized that from my life perspective their songs touched me even more than Nirvana, and it was kind sick to admit to myself this fact hehe. Keep up the great work at the channel. One of my favourite channels across all youtube.
Much love
That was always my favorite Tom strat. Love how close you got!
I've always thought the Strat in the Dammit video was awesome. Can't believe you made it haha!
Wow. Watching the effort that went into this project makes you appreciate it way more. Awesome. I suddenly want to mod my Squier...
Looks pretty damn good to me
I love your passion with stuff like this, man. Like, it's just fun for you, then you're generous enough to sell it. It's cool.
Very very cool bro and I love your vids and covers! Being an old punker (first punk band started in 1997), seeing stickered strats like this was pretty ubiquitous in the scene. Lol
As you said, it isn't 100 percent perfect. But you know what: I dont care! Let's not forget how long it's been since Tom played this guitar. And for 2018 this is pretty much the closest you can get! Great job Jon.
that thing is awsome and its been fun watching its transformation. If I had the money I would well take it off of your hands.
thank you for sharing this
Thanks for making this video, I've always wanted to angle the jb humbucker in my strat and I couldn't find any videos walking through the whole process, so this helped a lot!
This looks freakin awesome!
That is so cool. I'm gonna have to try and do this now
I love the angled humbucker, I made a replica of Billie joe Armstrongs blue Strat, with a JB in the bridge, and the sound is amazing, the stickers were hard to find at the time, but now you could find them relatively easily
I believe Tom’s start to have been a 1993 fender American standard. Something that makes a lot of sense is that from photos I’ve seen, the 93 USA standard strats were routed with a “swimming pool” body cavity, which would’ve made dropping the X2N in angled very easy with no other additional routing needed to be done. Thanks for the great video and project!
It could be either be a '93 or a '94 American Fender because the latter of the two had an HSH route underneath which would've also been able to accomodate the angled pickup.
Regarding the forum, I’m the one that goes by the name ‘Q182’ for those wondering who contributed.
Love it! Thank you for making this!
Thank god, I was looking all over for someone that had a Cheshire Cat- dude ranch era strat. Finally found one!
Looks awesome, just put an invader in my strat, specific but great tone for the style of music
That Lagwagon sticker makes me really happy, I'm a huge Lagwagon fan. I wonder if Tom is/was a Lagwagon fan.
i can only assume he is
there's a reason that sticker is there like all the rest, you know
@@pantsnjacket381 Fair enough. Apparently blink-182 used to open for Lagwagon. I wish I could've seen those concerts.
All of the old school punk bands
I'm glad you took on this project. So fucking cool
You've got that tone perfect 👌
This is fricking awesome man!
Pretty cool project! I've been watching some of your videos, it reminded me of when I started listening to punk rock 21 years ago, I love the sound of les pauls and strats with humbuckers thru a mesa boogie. This one made me want to start a guitar project like that, not the exact same, but similar with a few things changed to my personal taste. That squier does not seem to de short/small like some fenders and squiers feel to me, I'm 6'1" so I have pretty long limbs. 😁
Am I...strung out...crazy or not allowed...ahahah enthused!
I wish I found this before you sold it. Damn.
pretty easy to make your own if you follow the video. best of luck!
Fuck yes dude !!!
Would love to see a replica of the Box Car Racer Es semi hollow!
Ficou muito bom! Sou muito fã do Blink182, já tive banda cover, espero que um dia eu também consiga replicar igual você faz!
Love it man, so cool!
Hoping you make another one someday when I'm making enough money to buy it!
Awesome job, sir!
Good job guitar looks awesome big fan of blink btw
Awsome guitar 😎
The baby version of the Descendents logo must be their album "I Don't Want To Grow Up".
We Remotely Low It is. It was cut out of a 4” square album cover sticker. The same applies for the Milo Goes To College sticker.
Cool shit, man
Oh my god as soon as i typed the previous one enthused came on!
OMG!! So cool!!!
how do you feel about squier, as opposed to MIM, or MIA / MIA Special? I'm considering doing my own build, but the price is going to go up considerably if I go for the higher end stuff. Do you think it's worth spending the extra?
Adam Taylor Difference is fret job to be honest, and satin necks for cheaper Strats, so it’s your choice
A used MIM is a seriously great deal. Better than a new squier
DrumBuster I like to sand the neck the back and apply gunstock oil and wax, so the satin doesn't bother me. it's the wood quality that really concerns me becasue that's something I can't fix in the workshop. bad/high fret ends and a bit of sanding / filing is half of the fun :)
as an update, I bought a used American Special with a rosewood neck, installed a pckguard from a used delonge, and installed an invader (bridge) but wired it with a 500k pushpull that enables parallel operation when pulled. (My thinking being it might be close to the invader neck bridge tone, but wouldn't change the look) the guitar body is black and has a trem, but I don't mind this as Tom's early silver custom shop also had a trem. I may swap the black body to a seafoam green, or yellow. depends what deals I see on the net.
Looks awesome! I've got the same guitar but I replaced the bridge pickup with a bill Lawrence l500xl (bill and Becky version)...and it sounds great...one thing I'll say about the bridge pickup in your guitar here is that's it too far away from the bridge, if you look at photos you'll notice Tom's is a lot closer. He probably routed the original pickguard out for a humbcker, which is what I did with mine!
No need to buy a slanted scratch plate just use the one that comes with the car and use a marker the shape of the humbucker and use a file to wear it down work perfectly I've done it twice
Would you ever consider making Billie Joes “blue”? I’m currently working on one at the moment
unlikely. but you never know. it just wasnt as iconic to me as delonges guitars were
littleredguitars2 yeah I get ya :) where did you get that slanted hum pickguard btw?
Bryan Braddock thanks :)
it'll sound strange... but, Tom is my best iconic guitarist!
I actually think making Blue would be easier than this guitar. Since the middle and neck pickups are disconnected and the slanted humbucker in the bridge is the only thing that is connected, it would take a little less time to do all that. In terms of stickers, you can just get them from the same guy on Reverb.
I'm super new to guitar and this one I though looked really sweet so I went online seeing what anyone had to say. There is almost no info on people having them except how to make them.
nice job dude. shit is sick
Btw davey wont let anyone have the pdf but if u need any email me i made them aswell if u need any
Alex Blouch haha not surprised. Its all good
If you're emailing them out I'll take them. Grabbing a Squier this week for this Tyler_j_hamilton@hotmail.com
My email is campiranos@gmail.com I'm also interested
Hook me up dude, chargerbandit.69@gmail.com Thanks
I would love to get them too mate. I was set to by this strat from Jon but I had no way to get it too me as I live in France at the moment. So I am going to make my own and would love to get a copy of your PDF. Please let me know if I can flick you some $$$ for all your efforts as I know this stuff takes a lot of effort. Thanks: rosscocharman@gmail.com
Nice! 😊
So good. Can see how influenced he was by Billie joes strat
what?
@@pantsnjacket381 Billie Joe Armstrong, the singer and guitarist of Green Day. Both guitars look very similar
@@jessekulbe1855 No they don't 😨
@@pantsnjacket381 it has the same idea though
Is there a way to DM you? I have the prototype of Tom Delonges fender stratocaster that I obtained several years ago. Apparently he gave it to fender to design his signature guitar, when they were done he told them to keep the guitar.. Through connections I got it.
You can email me. Littleredguitars2@yahoo.com
littleredguitars2 I'll email u now with some pictures
I don't really see what is so iconic about tom's guitars tbh
then dont watch the video?
I enjoyed the video, but was hoping to get some information about why it was significant to you. Sorry if my comment sounded like I disliked the vid
I've been wanting to build my own custom strat for a while now. My problems are that, I don't exactly know where to get a body, that would be best for what I have in mind - I want to have just a humbucker pickup at the bridge, AND no tremolo (I think those body types are referred to as "string-thru", so yeah there's just the holes in the back of the body for each string). It really feels like finding "string-thru" strat bodies, even if pre-built guitars that you would walk into a music store to buy, are really hard to find. But then combine that with ONLY wanting the cutout for ONE humbucker pickup.... anyway this is really nice! I would probably buy this if I had the money (just as a big Blink fan), but I don't :(
custom make a body at warmoth.com
Hey man, Sick build, Can you please do a video explaining tom and marks technique??
When was this particular Squire with three Duncan designed mini humbuckers ever on sale? I mean I don't think you ordered it from Warmoth, as seeing you have no use for the middle and bridge pickup at least?
Edit; never mind I skipped through a little bit of the beginning or was out of the room. Did you ever get a reading out of the bridge pickup? Resistance wise? Was this a Canadian model only? I've never seen this particular Strat ever available in the US
There is a squire guitar with the same finish that his guitar has
Where did u find the stickers?
Question. The bridge how did you get it to stay down. Cause my bridge floats and it never stays in tune. My bridge has six screws btw
Tighten the screws on the back side. The ones going through the trem claw
littleredguitars2 what if I already did and the tension from the strings brings up the bridge. Does that mean I just have a shitty bridge lol
nick80411 if this is still a problem, try adding more springs, or blocking it off; Rob Chapman did a video on how to do it years ago, I'm sure other people have done guides too.
Nice guitar and cool video, damn you are not shipping to europe.
But with this video I maybe try to make myself one.
what's the name of the song? 29:12min
Homerun girl
When I click the amazon link in the description it says olympic white and pearl white which one did you use ?
2 years later... he used olympic white
@@mauricioreyes2906 currently building toms cherry es 335 sticker guitar but i might make this one next
Whats caption using for Strato ? menssage from Brazilian,Thanks for videos from blink 182
Please do a room tour someday
335 next!!
I'm posting this without watching the full video, but how did you get all the stickers?
Thatdamasian watch the video
Will those pickups fit in a Yamaha Pacifica 112J body?
how much did u sell it for?
I've always wondered if you doctor up the neck and frets on a squire would it play/feel similar to a MIM Fender?
neck work on squiers arent that great typically so any little bit helps.
Love this guitar. Think you'll ever make another one?
i dont plan on it
Tom with a strat was so much cooler
Agreed
So I think I ordered the same stickers from the Russia guy, do you remember approximately how long they took to get? A few weeks? Month? Year?
Not sure. Quite a while.
too bad I don't live in the usa nor have money lol
Do you guys know what amp Tom used on the early records? As far as i know it was a transistor one and Tom was really stubborn about using transistor amps that time... he changed to marshall and mesa during cheshire cat i think but maybe this was still done with that amp
theres some info in that forum link i posted in the description
Vidics Ferenc He used an Ampeg VL-1002, which is basically a JCM 800 on steroids. I did a cover of Wasting Time on my channel if you would like to hear how it sounds
That sounds exactly like on the records :D cool pretty rare amp, full tube right ?
Vidics Ferenc Correct, it’s all tube. It’s able to take EL-34’s or 6550’s (6L6 type tube). Mine has EL-34’s
Hey buddy I’m making one of these right now and need to know where to get the slanted pickguard at? It’s hard to find, plz lmk thanks!
You can order the pickguard from warmoth, just make sure you select slanted Bridge humbucker and make sure the screws will like up with your guitar. I'm working on the project myself. Hope this helps!
What do you enjoy most about customizing a guitar?
when new parts retrofit the old ones.
But why not playing some hints of cheshire album?
Dude this is a killer build. Are you from New England?? I noticed the Maine hoodie
Good eye. Im in Mass. Been to Maine a few times though
Dude awesome! Im living in Portland Maine. I'm sure we've shared the stage before
Visited portland for the first time back in november. Great area for sure
Make Billie Joe Armstrong’s blue
Has he done billies blue?
Can you send me a link to where you got the pickguard? I'm building one myself!
just go to warmoth .com and select the pickguards page. then for the bridge pickup route, hit angled humbucker. voila
Hey I was wondering how long it took to receive the stickers? As I’ve ordered some myself.
a few weeks
do you know what grit that steel wool is? am getting my guitar to do this soon and would like to do the same! thanks!
0000
@@littleredguitars2 awesome man thank you!! would love to see you make the starcaster!!
Oh!! You said if I had any questions at all, ANY....What’s a Clitoris?
an old, old wooden ship.
Now do the BCR 333!
nah
Did Tom play a squire at that time period?
Eric Coombs no, he played an American Strat
it was a Mex strat.
You sure? Could have sworn it was an American, I could be wrong though
AquaCentauri It’s a ‘94 American Strat. It has 22 frets & the two point bridge
Do you know if Tom's original sticker strat was a Squire or a Fender?
its an american made fender.
Where can I get these stickers?
Where did you buy the angular pickguard?
Warmoth
whats the riff at 28:55?
Wasting time- blink 182
Where can i buy the stickers?
Where'd you snag the pickguard?
Tyler Hamilton he made it
You should familiarize yourself with the bands who influenced tom, especially if youre putting all of this time, money, and effort into being his future murdrer. All the while documenting your decline into madness .
Youve got issues pal
Bruh hahahaha
where did you buy the stickers?
Reverb
Still for sale?
yup. link in the description
