Awesome podcast/show gentlemen. I remember hearing Blink for the first time with my buddy German in Louisiana, he put me into Dude Ranch and Dammit around d 97’ a few years before Enema came out. Enema of the State is the literal soundtrack to my teenage years, I’ll forever associate that album with my neighborhood friends, spending summers together and just doing what kids do and having fun. There’s something special about Blink’s music, as Rick Beats has pointed out, it’s always generally happy and upbeat with just a twinge of melancholy, and humor to top it all off. Funny I used to have a JCM900 dual reverb before I knew much about Tom’s live rig! Unfortunately I sold it years ago because it kept breaking down on me and I got tired of servicing it.
One could reasonably assume that Tom may have put the black Invader in the bridge while he was “trying to do something cool” with it and then it wasn’t ever pulled out because of that incident that made him de-sticker it? Had the Fender logo exposed so would make a lot of sense if this was done during his Fender years. Another awesome episode!
Love the sticker Strat. One of the main reasons I gravitated towards Fender when I started playing punk in the late 90s. Also if Tom is actually blending pickups the Lil screamin demon in the middle would work way better than the JB jr. I have used the full sized and mini version of the screamin demon in multiple guitars and it’s less aggressive, cleaner, and more articulate than the a JB / JB Jr. It would work extremely well in conjunction with hot pickups such as the hot rails or invader. Maybe his tech/Tom wanted well rounded versatile guitar for a change?
I imagine the pickup was angled because he just had the existing pickguard cut for a humbucker and the pickup screw holes in the pickguard were already there at an angle. Figure back then there probably weren’t a ton of custom pickguard makers and he wasn’t a Fender artist yet.
Something about the dude in the middle confuses me, what does he mean by “we”? Does that mean him and Davey Jones and the 2 other guys he noted? I’d assume so.
Indeed. If you watch them play Carousel from the 1997 MTV Sports and Music Festival you get a very good look at it when Peter King comes out on stage mid song with it. There’s also a 1997 Montreal show where Tom played it mid set for a song or too.
the sticker strat was always one of my favourite guitars and I still wanna recreate it for myself
It’s a pretty sick guitar!
Super interesting ! This is gold for us obsessed old school fans :D
Thanks for giving it a watch !
100%

Great fucking vid, lot of stuff I never knew despite being a huge Blink/Tom nerd. Good job fellas!
Thanks so much for watching !

Great video dudes. Dave with some super interesting history.
Ton of knowledge in that head if his!

It’s possible, but it’s only logical the invader was put in to match his custom Fenders or as Dave said, to be a backup to his Les Paul’s. - Q182

Certainly possible! The odd thing is after Cheshire was recorded, Tom only played the bridge pickup. So who knows? Glad you enjoyed the video!
DOPE!
Hi Whats the brand of the pickups that Tom was using ? Thanks

Yeah that could have been the case
Probably the same reason Billie Joe Armstrong had the pickguard on Blue cut out for a humbucker.
I had black airwalks with the little carrot on the tongue haha throw back
Nice!
Haha I remember those! I had an olive green type colored pair.
Awesome info

Yes. Myself, daveyjones, Q182 and Poppincurbs
There was also a white back up strat sometime in 1997, I've seen it in one video.

Yup, the elusive backup sticker strat. Used a handful of times in 1997, totally different stickers and bridge humbucker. - Q182
Wish we could see More of that one !
@@Gear182 This is probably the best view of it: ruclips.net/video/UZqqY311PaY/видео.html
It made one of its first appearances in the M+M's music video.
Yup! Good eye!
Hey can you do a video on padre
💯
@@Gear182 great, thanks man
Airwalk is now in store Walmart brand in Canada. Hate it, cheapens one of the classic brands.
Yeah I saw that! I’m in Canada too 🇨🇦
