Although Daniel Dyson, and Jose Alvarado are respectively the Pelicans 2nd, and 3rd best defenders, Jonas was the Pelicans 2nd best defensive player. A good defender stops his assignment from scoring, a good defensive player ends the other teams offensive possession.
Herb not only stops his guy from scoring, but by blocks and steals, he also ends offensive possessions. Jonas may not be much as a rim protector, but his defensive rebounding reduces opportunities for opponents second chance points. I'm not sure that Jarrett Allen, or Michael Carter Jr., are going to do a better job against Sabonis, Holmgrem, Jokic, Davis, and KAT than Jonas did. In fact, I would be interested to compare their respective one-on-one statistics against these players. Jake can you find that?
I agree but with what we want to do on defense he doesn’t fit, we wanna switch everything and he can’t switch onto guards

The Willie take seems like making something out of nothing. He started Herb as a rookie, played Jose as a rookie in the playoffs, clearly developed Trey well over time, and Hawk played 3/4 of the season at a respectable rotation rate of 17 minutes a game. Willie has overall been pretty balanced at playing rookies, even though the team is decent every year and not rebuilding.
