Over a year ago we bought the HF Industrial grade punch and chisel set. It is OUTSTANDING. We are in a commercial maritime environment and these items see hard use. I’ve even bought a set for my home toolkit. I rate them a 8.5/10 for the value and quality.
Some really good picks there. The breaker bars, dead blows and Braun stick light are a no brainer for the price. The yellow Daytona Super Duty makes a Buick or F150 truck feel like a lawnmower. The 1/2 drive flex head ICON torque wrench has been awesome for suspension. It has a 15 degree limiter on the flex head so it won't throw you off too badly. My list would include the Pittsburgh Automotive Tool Creeper. When working on a vehicle propped up on jackstands, it's been awesome keeping tools organized instead of scattered on the floor. For 20 bucks you can't go wrong.
I had to toss the plastic Pittsburgh Creeper and buy the metal one. I'm only 190lbs and I was bottoming out when laying on it, and always bottoming out when sitting on it, of course my garage is 112 degrees in phoenix.
@@snap-off5383 I was talking about the tool creeper. It's a round tray on wheels that only holds tools. It's sweet. Otherwise the creepers you rest on are no better than a sheet of cardboard. LOL.
Got to agree with you, most of the tools you recommend I have tried and find them to be a good value. Especially the floor jacks. Had a cheap Jack for 20 years and the only thing to happen to it was where the handle connects to the body with the crazy gear setup finally stripped out. But now the Daytona floor jacks have a really solid universal joint. A great upgrade!! I believe this Jack will last forever. Could not find one anywhere near the price elsewhere

Like Mb Fishing mentioned below... Bottom drawers would be really awesome in this cart! My thought is HF could have an add-on upgrade module you could install with the drawers. That would be amazing!
Also, it would be great to have one size larger cart too. Maybe a 35" model, or larger? I can fit 80% to 90% of my automotive hand tool needs in the current 5 drawer, but I need to leave several things behind in my larger box. It would be nice to have one box that contained almost everything I needed.
There are several videos that how 2 carts can be put together. To basically gives you drawers on the bottom. Although I don’t see how this would be better than the 26” box or even the 42” box.
I had their Pittsburgh jack and it worked great for the money. I bought the old version when the new one was coming out and I got it for 65$. Totally worth it. My only issue was it lowered to fast. I sold that and upgraded to the Daytona 3 ton low profile jack. It is worth every penny I paid for it. You have more control when lowering it. It also takes less pumps to raise it. Definitely a great buy.

The deadblow hammers are a good deal. I usually get a year or two out of them before they are too torn up to use. The braun rechargable work lights are great. They come with both all charger and a car cig lighter charger. I keep a pair of them in the truck and they are much better than a flashlight if you are trying to work on anything. The step drill bits are great. I've used them a lot on 1/8 and 1/4 mild steel and they are still going strong. I always drill a pilot using a standard but that is a little undersized for the hole I want then use the step bit to get a perfectly round hole that is chamfered at the top.
I have almost everything on this list. Another one is the screwdrivers with blue and red handles. Also the $10 Pittsburgh 3/8 torque wrench is pretty solid. I worked at a shop with a torque wrench calibrator and it was maybe 1-2 ft lb off depending on the setting
Yeah + or - 1-2 ft lbs is within spec for a 3/8". I have the 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and an electric 3/4 torque adapter. The standard pop ratchets agree very close with the electric.
I've got the Quinn electronic torque wrench (did a video on it) and have been really impressed with it. I don't use it hardly as much as someone in the trade (just a DIY guy) but I think it's well worth the money👍👍
I do use their cheap angle grinders though like Chicago Electric. The 2 I own were hand me downs actually and over 10 years old. I just buy the right blade for the right job. I'd feel more comfortable burning up a 20 to 30 dollar HF angle grinder motor than a 200 dollar milwaukee one.
I have several of those dead blows. Work perfect. I have abused the three pound so much hitting sharp edges and cut the face out of a few of them and they give me a new one no problem. Also have about a 5pound too. Also have the green 5 drawer tool cart. Got it over a year ago when it was like $40 or so cheaper...forget what I paid but I got it non sale and a free folding table with it. Also have a huge set of Doyle channel lock style. There huge for giant things and farm type stuff. Rarely use them but nice when needed.
The yellow Daytona jack is a exact replica of the Snapon jack. They even manufactured it in the same facility. Snapon tried to sue them and lost. All the Daytona's look the same at a glance but they are not. The Yellow one is superior, there are quite a few vids out there explaining this.
Good video. I’d like to see you do a review of the Napa Auto tool lines and how they compare. We have a lot of Napa stores in smaller communities. Thanks!
Yep, only reason I'd pay more than what the Pittsburgh comfort grip ½" breaker bar which I own is if I needed a ratcheting one. And the ½" impact sockets are good. I've used and abused them for 3 plus years now and they still work great.
Seeing this in August 2022. I picked up a bunch of things on this list and a lot of things went up in price so much. Breaker bar went up $5. Toque wrench $20. Daytona low profile long reach $45 but I got that one for $209 so only got a $14 mark up.
I think the cheaper breaker bar is better, the head design is stronger with the external setup. Never buy skip socket sets, send a message. They DO have some no-skip sets, 1/2 SAE shallow impact is skip-free, and 1/2 Shallow metric is close enough. I'd wager the difference between the $109 Icon Torque wrench and the $20 pittsburgh is cosmetic. Both made in Taiwan. I've long outgrown that cart, glad I only paid $159 for mine. I went ahead and bought the Snap-on Jack to see what the deal was, and its BY FAR the best tool Harbor Freight sells, even though its made in China, not Taiwan which is sad, but true. The Braun hand light is available as a husky for less at HD. $14.99 I think. HF is great to get your grip tools filled up for cheap, at least as placeholders until you can get better, some are like $2.50 You do have to have a tournament of all of them in the store to see who's the best one and if that one is acceptable sometimes though, some instances of those tools are hilariously bad. Magnetic nut setters are great once you get ones that keep the magnets. Bought the expensive step drill. . . . dropped it on my tile. {:-( Chipped the tile. But its a hell of a bit! I've pretty much completely chowdered those punches on a DIY basis, looking for better ones now.
ha-ha i just got back from HF and saw this up on youtube 🤣 got more of the braun lights that wereon sale. let me say that the bauer and earthquake guns i have are holding there own and i abuse them alot,i always have my 1/4 inch driver is always at the ready and the same thing with the 3/8 earthquake and i am trying out the 1/2 witch i just got for out side the shop work(in the lot)but only used it twice. i'll let you know if it's worth or not in a few week's. great vid as always!!!!👍👍👍👍
I am not a pro...and probably not a good DIYer but, I do have that breaker bar and it is more than adequate and the dead blows have been great and you can't beat the price....but you sure can beat the hammers. That US General cart is great (had it a while so I paid less) as is the US General line which I think is about the best overall value at HF. . I don't buy power tools either (tried once once - -just OK) nor do I buy anything from HF on which my life may depend.
Very nice great to hear all of that thanks for sharing your thoughts. Sounds like you had alot from what was on the list and I agree with you. Once again thanks for sharing your experience I always appreciate your comments
. . . but you CANNOT beat the hammer HANDLES. Price fiberglass hammer handles? $35 apiece, Then look at the price of the HF ones. . . 7 bucks whole hammer. That and a cutting wheel for your die grinder is MUCH cheaper than a new fiberglass hammer handle. (the long pittsburgh handle is NICE on a big ass ball peen.) If you use a wood chisel on the remaining epoxy it pops right off at the fiberglass, like a brand new replacement handle. HF should just flat sell replacement handles.
Hi tony, very interesting video, I’m very interested in many tools you showed and the price is down to earth, I’m a hf fan it’s my biggest tool supplier, what they don’t have I get on line, excellent quality video ty so much, Bob,
I'm not saying all HF tools are cheap or low quality tools. I buy a cheap tool, if it fails or works poorly, I replace to with a better tool. Except saw blades. always buy the best you can afford. The US General carts are five grades better than what I need. Joy to use. I have the slim light, it's great.
The 33" 4 drawer from husky is very comparable, not only in price, but in size and durability as well, though my only recommendation is to put some blue locktite on the machine screws during assembly as they are soft and easy to strip out when you have to retighten them as they tend to loosen up over time. I swapped mine for black oxide coated, stainless steel, flanged button head, Allen drive machine screws (M6 -1.0 x 16mm size for reference) and they are a much stronger metal and less likely to strip, I've had it for about 6 years and used it daily professionally with no issues. But like I said, it is very comparable to the 5 drawer US General, and definitely bigger than the 4 drawer US General (I also have 2 US General 5 drawers at home that I'm in the process of making into a single 10 drawer)
I hate that F'n under hood light. It is a piece of trash that won't stay in any position you try to put it in. Mine rolled around and flipped in my eyes for the last time, and met it doom with me smashing it into pieces on my garage floor. It felt so good to smash that thing. I got a Bayco 2120 Bracket on Amazon and a cheap plug in single 4 ft led light at Rural King and a few nylon zip ties and it works perfectly, and I just plug it in and don't have to worry about batteries dying either.
Lmao ya I forgot about that. It always just dangled and you couldn't really put it in a specific position. Haha ya I think I sold mine. Definitely great to get a good quality one.
Would you recommend the Pittsburgh torque wrench? It’s only $20 so it’s hard not to buy it. If the icon is way better in quality then I’ll buy it. But man $20 is too hard not to pass
The problem is, with the Pittsburgh pros the sizes aren't stamped and when that paint or as you call it laser etching wears off you have no idea what size the sockets are. I've bought them both. And I am super disappointed with the Pittsburgh pro series.
I also use Harbor Freight when I'll need to purchase the tool that I will only use super occasionally. Case in point: Very long locking needle nose pliers. Purchased it so I can reach up inside the engine compartment and remove a spring hose clamp. Impossible without this tool. And for single-use whypaymore?
@@TonyTheTechnician not really that’s what I thought to but it hasn’t shown much sense I got it it’s dusty right now cause it’s outside under a carport

If you feed them good air. I have the stubby 1/2" non-xt since its twin hammer not single hammer like the XTs, (its the same gun as the Hazet, and Aircat/Nitrocat.) I feed it air via 3/8" hose and its a BEAST. Knocked a subaru crank bolt right off, didn't have to pull the radiator. The Aircat boot fit on it perfectly (they're the same).
With the more expensive lines at hf you have to watch because a lot of times you can buy a similar tool from a reputable company for almost the same price. There table saw that is junk and only lasted a few months is priced the same as a lot of known decent brands.
Good day, curious if anyone has experience purchasing from Jegs? I seem to get a lot of emails from them. Same designs as Harbor Freight. Right now, Jegs 5-drawer tool box is $215.99, even a 11 drawer 42" rolling cabinet is $449.99... Free shipping over $199... ???

Very nice and ya I agree. It's hard to beat those Hammers for the price
Thanks!
I can definitely do that. Thanks for the input 👍
Yep, only reason I'd pay more than what the Pittsburgh comfort grip ½" breaker bar which I own is if I needed a ratcheting one. And the ½" impact sockets are good. I've used and abused them for 3 plus years now and they still work great.
Very nice. Thanks for sharing
Tony is just dropping video after video. 👍
Lmao trying to do what I can. Always open to suggestions on videos you would like to see as well. 👍
Seeing this in August 2022. I picked up a bunch of things on this list and a lot of things went up in price so much. Breaker bar went up $5. Toque wrench $20. Daytona low profile long reach $45 but I got that one for $209 so only got a $14 mark up.
Ya it's crazy how much the prices of everything have gone up in such a short time
I think the cheaper breaker bar is better, the head design is stronger with the external setup.
Thank you haha very nice that's great to hear. Keep me updated 👍
the 1/2 is very very good. been using one for 20 years/ now got the new gen. oil it and these last forever
You got my sub, just for the 3rd gen behind you!
Thank you 👍
I got the 5 drawer tool cart for $199 w/coupon. Worth every penny..... The Braun work light is great too.
👍👍👍
i agree with your list and opinions
Hi tony, very interesting video, I’m very interested in many tools you showed and the price is down to earth, I’m a hf fan it’s my biggest tool supplier, what they don’t have I get on line, excellent quality video ty so much, Bob,
Thank you I appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed
Very nice. Thanks for sharing your thoughts
Dude thanks for the review..
Thanks for watching 👍
I agree with everything you said.
Thanks 👍
One thing you touched on, Harbor Freight has a lifetime warranty on hand tools, like sockets and wrenches. Break it and they'll replace it free.
How good are hf Torque wrenches?
The step drill bits hold up great unless you are drilling stainless.
Ya stainless will definitely do that. Even with a good quality bit, drilling stainless can be a pain
@@TonyTheTechnician definitely . Chromate standard or self center doesn't do any better so I bought more HF lol
Nice
Aw man, the white cart with the black out trim kit to match the Telluride!
Oh dang that's what I want. Don't get me started lol.
What are punches and chisels used for in automotive?
Bearings, seals, bolts, nuts, and much more. Aligning components.
Those impact sockets are the best
Tony. What are your thoughts on Harbour Freight Icon Snap ring pliers set? Thanks
Depends on what your working on and how much. If you rarely use a torque wrench then ya it's a great deal
Case in point:
Very long locking needle nose pliers. Purchased it so I can reach up inside the engine compartment and remove a spring hose clamp. Impossible without this tool. And for single-use whypaymore?
What was your MOS in the Army ?

The white hides the dirt really well
I feel like it would show grease and oil pretty easy.
@@TonyTheTechnician not really that’s what I thought to but it hasn’t shown much sense I got it it’s dusty right now cause it’s outside under a carport
@@montebarnes8043 nice!! Great to hear. Thanks for sharing
@@TonyTheTechnician no problem thanks for posting such great videos
@@montebarnes8043 thank you for your support. Glad you enjoy
Icon sockets are good chrome molly
Wish icon would make a 3/4 torque wrench
I heard they may be working on 3/4 inch stuff but not positive
buy an electric adapter for your 3/4 ratchet. If you don't have a 3/4 ratchet buy one, they're GREAT for turning motors over in the vehicle. www.ebay.com/itm/384099359869?epid=2255373780&hash=item596e1b1c7d:g:z34AAOSwvdxgeacz
The thing about skipped sizes that pisses me off is that harbor freight doesn't sell individual sockets.
Ya that part does kind of stink.
Hey I’m from Sioux Falls!
👍👍👍
whats the difference between the regular and cold punch and chisel sets anybody?
Cold chisels are for all non heated things, so hot chisels are really only used by blacksmiths. There is no "medium" chisel, or "plain" chisel.
@@snap-off5383 sweet thanks!
@@dc5duben96 but there are "wood chisels" completely different. You probably already knew that.
the Earthquake impact air tools are second to none in quality; i am a pro mechanic and use them,
Great to hear. Thanks for sharing 👍
1/4 inch swivel head Pittsburg ratchet is the only tool Harbor freight should make IMO
Lmao that would a small store
Just gifted my nephew a new 3/8 swivel head, with the note "here's your new favorite ratchet".
@@snap-off5383 1/4 inch to me feels awesome. And it was 11 dollars! I love my Carlyle 3/8s swivel tho
Update?
Good day, curious if anyone has experience purchasing from Jegs? I seem to get a lot of emails from them. Same designs as Harbor Freight. Right now, Jegs 5-drawer tool box is $215.99, even a 11 drawer 42" rolling cabinet is $449.99... Free shipping over $199... ???
Ya I have ordered alot from Summit and jegs and they have been great.
I was for this list until you mentioned that shit dead blow sand hammer.
Lmao alot of people love that thing and don't mind replacing every year. They are cheap and free to replace so I can see why people would go that route. I would hate to have to replace my 50 and 60 dollar ones.
I have the underhood light. I like it, and have no complaints so far. I had their reciprocating saw for 20.00. I died in an hour😅😅
Haha good to know. Thanks for sharing 👍
When I could get a tool cart for less than $100,I got 3.The way they're pricing them now,no.
