  • My David Brown 990 is going to get a good workout! I have 13 or so fields to plow and disc to get ready for planting grass. Deer season is getting close!
Many thanks to Brad and Brian for helping with the video!

Hi Shane, you look like you enjoyed that, great shots of your land and surrounding area, do you get any problems with the public coming through one your crops begin to grow,
Gemma was always having problems with dog walkers who thought winter wheat and spring barley was grass for them to walk their dogs on.
your back ground music's working well.
    looking forward to seeing more,
    Barry

Oh yes, enjoyed greatly! I love getting out and working in the dirt a bit. Good for the soul! We get the occasional trespasser from time to time, but here in the States, it's a bit different from over there I think. Over here private land is private and you can get in real trouble by trespassing. And people have guns 🙂 I watched that series on farming in the UK by Jeremy Clarkson and it opened my eyes on what farmers over there go through. Farms being in "Areas of outstanding beauty" and just having people walking through?!? Planning commission bureaucracy and rules everywhere? I don't think I could stomach it.

That's a happy running diesel engine on your tractor. You should be able to lift more than a tonne with the 3 point linkage. Front weights help also. Looked likr you were having fun also M😀

Yep, it's really happy when it's pulling a plow or disc. Sips fuel too. I probably went through about 10 gallons of fuel doing the box blade work, the plowing and the discing. The lift worked really great! Prior to me doing all the hydraulic work it wouldn't even pick up the front of the disc at all. Would barely lift the plow. But now it's doing fine and dandy. It's got 2 front weights up underneath the hood/bonnet. I guess those came with it from the factory. It's really hilly out where I was doing the work, and a couple of times going up a hill the front wheels would bounce off the ground with the disc hooked up. Slightly tensed up and white knuckled the steering wheel on those, lol! Probably need a bit more weight on the front. Thanks Marshall!

That looks like what I would call an enjoyable day (or two). Tractor is running sweet. Could you notice the Draft Control working with the plough at all? The best pump video is in the MF135 6 speed playlist videos 14 and 15

Yes, very enjoyable, but the right side of my neck and shoulder were soooo sore for a few days after! Draft control worked great! It was the very first time draft control actually worked while I've had the tractor. In fact, everything worked the way it was supposed to! I'm so happy that it all works. As for the pump videos, apparently I missed those two. I'll be watching both tonight! Thanks for those. I'll also add those to the card thingy in my video. Thanks a bunch Lance!

Lol oh I was in stitches I'm guessing your not enter a ploughing match 😅 seriously good video tractor runs sweet and wow good job fixing those hydraulics have you thought about attaching front inner wheel weights they don't make the steering anymore difficult I know you got power steering I haven't and I don't notice any difference with em on

What?? you don't think my beautiful furrows are competition worthy??? Well I don't either! Lol! 😄 I'm just glad it all held together! That song in the middle of the video where the timelapsing starts... that one's for you Jon! la la la da da la la da da lol 😆 I've got the original weights up underneath the frame at the front, but could definitely use more.

Sweet! I’m looking at buying a 990, would you be able to do a video on the shifting pattern, what gear you run in while plowing/discing/planting? How many acres are you able to plow/disc/plant per hour? I am currently searching you videos thank you for having a farming Chanel with a David Brown and for putting the farming and tractor info out for me to find it!

Don't know about doing a video on that, at least any time soon, I've got a LOT of stuff going on that's preventing me from working on the tractor or videoing anything. Good idea though! My shifting pattern is Stop, select another gear, go again. :-) I can't shift it while it's going very well at all. It's a 6 speed I think. Lo/Hi Range and 1 thru 3. For plowing/discing (2 bottoms and 6ft disc) I use Low-3 mostly. Probably too fast for plowing, but I don't care, I'm using it to turn over dirt for planting grass for deer. I've never really thought about acres per hour. Let's see, I can do 13 half to 1 acre fields and various lanes through the woods in about 2 days :-) With plenty of stopping to muck about and have beverages.
      Thanks for watching!

I used Lance's video for my pump, and did notice a difference in performance.

Good to know! I'm assuming you got better performance! All the o-rings I've found in this old tractor need to be replaced, and I'm sure the ones in the pump are about shot. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!

Hi again, Are you aware that the kind of noise we hear at the beginning of video (in French we call that a "wing sound") comes from the final drive units ? At first I always thought it was coming from the transmission. But I experienced 2 different final drive on my DB880. One was a bit more rusty. The other one was nice and clean so I decided to put the nice looking one instead. It was so noisy ! It was even hard to hear the engine running as it was noisy. I suppose that bearings are involved. There are 4 of them and that's where all the pulling weight of the tractor is. It may also be the adjustments of the shafts on their bearings. Still don't know what it was but I putted back the more rusty final drive witch is a lot more quiet. If you ever want to fix it, you already know where it comes from. And a pain in the ass to fix it ! Is your DB 6 or 12 speeds ? These transmission didn't have synchronized speeds. I heard that 12 speeds (like mine) were more durable than 6 speeds. I heard... Just because of the extra shifter.

Well hello again! My right side final drive whines very loudly with higher speeds. I figure that I'll need to replace all the bearings in there soon. Mine's a 6 speed. Lo/Hi range with 1-3 and reverse. I always have to stop to change gears, and TRY not to grind them!
