Rio is a legend but Jesus he’s delusional with his commentary.
He’s a 🤡
He’s easily the worst ‘pundit’ ever, stealing a living, totally clueless - ‘arteta leaves for Utd’, ‘rashford is world class’, ‘saka isn’t world class’ - he’s the only man more delusional than ETH 😂
I agree the most important is the manager look at belgium golden generation. southgate will play henderson and the man city reject kalvin phillips. we need a great manager to win and not bottle big games
Nobody has that pace & talent on the left to compliment Kane's dropping deep...Had England started Rash against France/Kounde then the team would have made it to the WC final
Ah stop
Rooney’s bang on about that midfield three, Rio’s living in fifa world only focusing on England and not the opponents
Great on the ball, but without, who is gonna recover and fight for possession?
Precisely. Love Rio but it’s clear who’s got their badges in that conversation. That midfield 3 would be eaten whole in the transitions. Wouldn’t make it far at all
@@PlayerOne-534 exactly
England are the only team in the world that could complain about playing their best players.
It’s down to the coach to make it work. If he can’t we should find someone that can.
Rio really picked Rashford?!?! Take off the bias goggles
Rashford is not bad for England
Rashford on form is better than every other LW option
@@Withtherackzugetslapped Rashford is brilliant for England. So is Sterling tbh.
@@micah0190 yeah but he ain't on form. So stop wishing and hoping. Go by as is right now. Rashford does not get there.
Who’s on form, that’s an actual left winger? Foden Maddison are central players. The options are Gordon sterling rashford
Foden on the left, Trent in the middle, Rashford can hand out lunches
Foden isn’t that good on the left his best position is midfield
Stones/Ward Prowse are really the ones who have the best claim to being the other sitting mid this year.
@@OwenKennedy-ys1zq Foden is class everywhere
@@hc2155but England don’t have any good CBs otherwise stones would play cm
Spot on
Gordon - most goal contributions for the position, best work rate, but nah - let’s throw a lazy rashford in because he scored a penalty earlier today 🤦♂️
Top scorer 4 england last world cup off the bench always turns up 4 england
Most goal contributions in what universe
I hope Rashford gets injured because Southgate will pick him. Actually while I'm wishing for stuff I hope Southgate gets injured and jurgen klopp takes over
@@kyledonaldson8947
That's because he was yet recognized by opposition defender. Today he will be easily neutralized by any defender by looking at his playing style of cut inside and shoot
It will be Foden playing on the left.
I agree with Rooney. That midfield will struggle against Spain (Rodri, Pedri and Gavi) and France (Tchouameni, Griezmann, Camavinga).. Its way too attacking, 2 no10s and a box to box midfielder in Rice is offensive af. Every other team in the euros would get destroyed though.
Gavi won't be going.
Thanks bro,
Spain, France, Portugal, maybe even Italy will run rings around that midfield.
I dunno why we’re even debating this anyways, We all know he’ll be playing either Henderson or Phillips anyways🤣
England for me are just missing that Creative Midfielder that can dictate the middle of the park & hold his own in the midfield defensively.
Spain, France, Portugal & even Italy All have that sort of player.
Even Germany will too with Kroos coming back.
We have that player in trent@@KINGKING10109
@@KINGKING10109kobee maiinoo
Gavi and pedri😂 rodri is the only danger on that spanish midfield
Marcus rashford… mental. He’s lucky to get on the bench.
It has got to be Trent rice and Bellingham and foden on the left
Go watch what Loftus Cheek is doing in Serie A this season
@@intellicogroup405 england has too much talent dont know what to pick the fact is he could be a choice but wont be
Washford got 2 goals in 2 games. So should start for England. Absolute melts.
Trent next to rice as a 2, foden bellingham saka, behind kane. Also I'd argue joe gomez in for shaw at left back.
Not sure about Gomez, but I like putting Trent in mid, and playing Foden LW
Liverpool fan by any chance?
I think that’s what I’d do too,
Maguire & Shaw worry me too but they’ve performed reasonably well for England
The only reason Luke Shaw won't start is injury. He was amongst our top 3 players in the last euros
Put Trent in midfield England will not past r16
Well there's a surprise. Lescott (ex Everton) likes Gordon (Everton prodigy); Ferdinand (Ex Man Utd and West Ham) goes for Rashford (Man Utd) but mentions Bowen (W.Ham); Rooney (ex Man Utd mainly) wants Rashford (Man Utd).
Everyone at Everton hates Gordon
Rio always keeps forcing Rashford on that left wing, mad😂
Foden on the left Alexander Arnold in middle
The standard of other teams at these Euros is being completely overlooked, especially some of the midfields
Portugal - B. Silva, B. Fernandes, Palhinha
Spain - Rodri, Pedri, Gavi
Germany - Kroos, Kimmich, Gundogan
France - Griezmann, Camavinga, Tchouameni
Italy - Barella, Verratti, Locatelli
Croatia - Modric, Kovacic, Brozovic
Holland - De Jong, Reijnders, Xavi Simons
Belgium - De Bruyne, Tielemans, Trossard
I don’t think camavinga starts for france
@@nelsonogbuigwe7500Rabiot then perhaps?
Kimmich will play RB for Germany. Andrich/Kroos/Gündogan is Nagelsmann's intended midfield with Wirtz, Musiala, Sané/Havert up front. So there'll be even more midfielders in the front 3.
I find it weird, how England always goes on about their golden generation in the early to mid 2000s totally ignoring, how France, Portugal, Italy, Czech Republic, The Netherlands all had golden Generations of their own at the same time, not to mention of Brazil or Argentina, who always have incredible talents.
@@alexm82420 Bingo, cama is shaky at cdm. he might lose the ball and your cooked
Foden on the left, Maddison on midfield
That's not any less open in midfield. Foden on the left, Maddison will have to come off the bench. I like the idea of a 4-2-3-1 with Kane up top, Foden Bellingham and Saka behind with Rice and any one of Henderson/Gallagher/JWP or even Trent alongside him.
There must be someone better than Harry Maguire
I'd have Tomori
Gomez he’s having a great season
@@lukes472 yeah at left-back and right-back..
Gomez or Tomori easily
Dunk
Anyone who doesnt agree with Rooney about the midfield clearly doesn't know how everyone of them like to get forward, no one there is an out and out sitting 6, we would be massively exposed against any half decent side.
Rice has sat for Arsenal though, only recently he's been played further forwrad and have Jorginho sit since Rice is that good he can play anywhere in the midfield, bit like Rooney was that good he could anywhere across the attacking positions.
Maguire and Shaw???
southgate always plays with maguire and shaw lol
@@idontcair7423 which is why everyone says he picks the wrong 11
"And DE Gea.....don't get me started on the goalkeeper. Most overrated keeper."
Shaws a definite, meme Maguire maybe not so much
“France are our only threat” Just a gentle reminder for Rio that England have only won 1 trophy ever, and that was over 50 years ago…
Tbf this team is the strongest team we have had in a long time.
@@joemarron5515 this team ia nowhere near the levels of the 80s and 90s. Hell its not even close to the 2000s golden generation.

@@joemarron5515 That's nothing without a winning culture though. Ask Belguim.
@@ExecutionerHopkins that’s why I said in a long time
Honestly guys, Spain, France, Portugal even Italy would Pass rings around that midfield with Southgate’s tactics
Southgate can’t set this team up to dominate games.
Cant wait to see Henderson or Phillips in the midfield
Oh boy southgate's boyfriends 😂😂
Ferdinand being 7 years older than Rooney is wild. Rooney looks like he could be both their dads
Rio needs to chill out. I'd have Anthony Gordon on the left side.. been far better than Rashford or Grealish this season.
Rooney knows ball
England so arrogant. Rio really thinks that midfield would dominate a France, Portugal, Spain midfield for example. Come on.
It's NOT "England so arrogant". It's red-tinted Rio. He's one person NOT a nation. Act your age !
I realized everyone forgetting Spain
So one persons prediction equates to England being arrogant now? Wtf?
That midfield could dominate anyone. Its ur anti English views. Which alot of foreigners have
They aint dominating Rodri - Pedri and Gavi. @@andrewjoyce9038
Foden on the left, Trent in the middle. Solves all the problems. Solidifies the midfield and gives Foden more strength. So obvious.
Gordon could be a super sub no problem
Shaw won’t be fit, hard no for Maguire.
I don’t see Foden playing through the middle. Southgate will play him on the left. Add a more defensive midfielder alongside Rice and Bellingham.
Impressed with Rooney here.
Let’s hope most of them get there without injury- that’s a real problem right now
Joe Gomez has to play
Did lescott describe him and Rooney as Coaches ...jaysus that's some Stretch
Rashford was our top scorer at world cup off the bench cant lie always plays well for england .....first they hyped up grealish that year sterling turned up last world cup was foden but it was saka and rashy ....
Definitely, need a bit more muscle in midfield! Foden and Saka get pushed off the ball too easily. An average French team did us in quarters of last World Cup and their physicality counted (it’s still part of the game). Most opponents of Zidane said it wasn’t just his skill, he was big, strong and tough.
James Maddison has to be in. Move Foden to the LW. Play Maddison at 10. Rice can play 6. Bellingham can play as an 8 who can sit with RIce when under pressure
Maddison is not a starter.
Exactly, weird that people are acting like bellingham doesn’t track back, defend and control a game. Probably haven’t even watched him and just assumed because he has loads of goals he cant do the defensive side. The guy has everything, just depends how he’s deployed
@@DanielS10291 same as Rice, he is an outstanding CDM yet people say there's no defence there?!?! Rice can play any CM role Bellingham can play CM or further forward attacking roles.
I agree with the logic of Rashford being there. Have 2 of the front 3 who run towards the ball to receive it, need someone who runs in behind to through balls. But Rashford’s form shouldn’t be ignored so I would go with Gordon or Bowen.
The midfield needs balance, there’s no point people saying All these attacking midfielders like Maddison, Palmer and Foden. We need one defensive midfielder (like Rice or Mainoo) one box-to-box (like Bellingham or Palmer) and one playmaker (like Foden or Maddison).
I’d love someone like Branthwaite or Tomori to play but a cb partnership is as much about the relationship between the two players as it is about pure footballing ability and Southgate has refused to blood new players in previous friendlies. So Maguire probably has to start.
So my team would be:
Pickford,
Walker, Maguire, Stones, Shaw,
Bellingham, Rice, Foden,
Saka, Kane (c), Bowen.
sure Rashford should be included in the squad for writing essays
For me, it'd be Gordon on the left and Guéhi in for Maguire
Anyone who says Foden on the left does not know anything about football. Foden would be wasted on the left. He is twice the player being in the middle.
Foden in that left wing position, push rice up and bring Trent in. Rice is great but will get caught as a lone CDM. Rotate Stones, Walker and Trent between RB, CB and CDM depending on the opposition. Stones and Trent more than capable in CDM, Stones and Walker solid CB’s, Trent and Walker solid RB’s. Also gives the option of switching between a back 3, 4 or 5 in game depending on what’s needed
Rice operates as a lone cdm for arsenal, he rarely gets caught
seems criminal to not squeeze trent in there somehow
Distribution from the back: it’s either Pickford hoofing it long or to Stones/Maguire who play it sideways to Shaw/Walker or Rice dropping deep who then plays it sideways to them or backwards. Then it’s slow down either wing, who get isolated in possession trying to come inside.
Kane doesn’t get the ball so has to drop deep to get the ball to playmake. Get a free kick/set piece to try and score from.
We know how it’ll end - QFs out on penalties because England can’t get the ball through midfield and create enough chances in the opposition penalty box.
- crazy - we have this every 2 years. England have never even got to a final at a euros or WC held overseas. Thinking just because we have Foden and Jude gives us a great chance of winning? Look at how long Portugal with Ronaldo and Argentina with Messi in their teams took to win a major trophy at international level. They were both in their 30s.
I would put Trent in midfield and Foden on left. Rashford will be better as in impact sub because of his versatility.
Foden Bellingham Rice be too open??? They are all workhorses, proper players and technically amazing. Sorry but remove Utd players, Tomori (or White would should be picked whatever the issues are) for Maguire, Tripper for Shaw, Gordon or Bowen for Rashford
Joe Gomez should be ahead of Shaw and Maguire. He plays every position better than those two
Im glad that they put foden in the midfield role than on the left. (WestHam fan)
With stones dropping into the midfield to push Jude further up the pitch.
Kane
Grealish Foden Saka
Rice Jude
Shaw Tomori Stones walker
Pickford
trent HAS to go in this team he without a shadow of a doubt adds the most to this team than any other player, foden on the left trent rcm bellingham lcm
Rooney is spot on with that midfield comment
Yet again no mention of RLC or Fikayo. Criminal punditry this.
Foden should start on the left and we play Gallagher, Phillips or that young lad at united.
Bro camavinga, tchoumeni, griezmann and may be dembulence in midfield is no joke.
Rashford… looks great against Wales and Slovenia but when it comes to the crunch games against France and Germany, he doesn’t turn up.
Trent and Rice as Cdm’s, Jude in the 10, Rashford and Foden share the left
If only Robertson played for England, what a team this would be. And I don’t know if there’s a better midfield out there for the euros.
as a spurs fan the fact that vicario, vdv, romero, madders, son, kulu, bissuma and udogie are not on this list is insane
Nice bait haha
The current England squad should win the Euros. Anything less is a failure. Based on finances, infrastructure, grass roots, sports science, population size etc England are by far the most underachieving national team in history. For all their advantages they haven’t won much over the years.
Nonsense. Those all mean diddly squat. Winning tournaments comes down to having a good 14-15 players, consistency, good understanding, balance, good tactical coaching and belief and environment. Few injuries and disruptions helps. By your crazy logic China would win everything.
Germany has 16 million more people
@@alfiegoff96 which proves my point that countries with larger populations have an advantage. Germany have won it 4 times. England have 5th largest population in Europe, but have never won it…
Foden should play on the left to fit TAA in the midfield. Maguire shouldn't even be in the squad but its too late to gel another defensive partnership.
Put foden on the left wing and put Alexander arnold on that midfield and its perfect 🎉
My England Playing XI would be in a 343 formation, I think for England to win trophies they should focus on their strongest aspect, the midfield. They have lot of gud midfielders.
GK - Pickford
3 CBs - Stones, Maguire, Walker
4 CMFs - Foden, Bellingham, Rice, Trent
2 Wingers - Sancho, Saka
Striker - Kane
Manager - Not Southgate
Even rooney knows that midfield is getting ran through. There is a reason we got to the euro final with Rice and Kalvin Phillips. We need two holding midfielders to protect the weak back line.
The squad should be:
Pickford/Ramsdale/Pope
Stones/Maguire/Walker/Chilwell/Trippier/Tomori/Brantwaithe
Bellingham/Rice/Palmer/TAA/Mainoo/Gallagher
Saka/Kane/Foden/Grealish/Rashford/Watkins/Bowen
Pickford
Walker/Stones/Maguire/Chillwell
Rice/Bellingham
Palmer
Saka/Kane/Foden
Rashford could make super sub if he's on form.
I prefer Gordon, Palmer or Bowen on the left wing, to start.
Foden as a no 10.
Bellyache and Mainoo running the midfield, with Rice behind.
How Watkins hasn’t got a shout absolutely baffles me, can easily play across the front 3 and help with midfield where Rooney has doubts. Watkins over Rashford for me easily. Stats this season proves my point.
Southgate will probably play Henderson or Gallagher next to Rice with Bellingham playing a 10. Then rotate Foden and Rashford on the left.
It's not what I would do.. I'm not even sure Henderson gets in the reserves for me,
Midfield should be Rice, Mainoo and Bellingham
Saka / Kane / Foden
Then Foden will come off when he inevitably doesn’t play very well for england. They need an impact player with speed who can run in behind like Rashford / Gordon / Watkins
Also have Maddison as rotation for Jude. And Gallagher for Kobi
I would have put Foden on the left and Palmer in the middle. We can always change the game by putting Radford on the left for pace in the second half.
Did he just compare casimero on the decline to rice in his prime, the arsenal hate is rife in TNT 😂
Against the top teams
Casemiro has won more than Declan Rice has played game
Well, the difference is that Casemiro can actually play as a solo DM, while Rice has only played in a double pivot or as a Box to Box.
@@batofkrypton9765 That will still hold true in 10 years when Casimero will be nearly 50, still irrelevant to their form
When the big moments come, England will crumble, England need psychological help, yes they are good talent wise, but do they have the mental fortitude to handle big situations.
It's crazy how Ben white doesn't get in this team ahead of maguire 😢
He doesn't want to be picked
Trent needs to be in that midfield we win last 2 comps if he played in the mid
Sterling needs to get the call back to England he’s the most experienced and reliable player we’ve got on the wing
Call ups should be on current form not past reputation, otherwise we will most definitely lose that tournament
@@tinasheroyhe’s not been that bad at Chelsea though tbf. Better than rashford.

Wayne Rooney tryna be smart since he were a manager for 1 year, saying "that midfield is weak!!" 😆😆
Hahah no wonder he is shait as a manager.. 🤣 That midfield actually can work very good with the players at hand, i mean Bellingham with his allround skills, Rice with his defensive excellence and Foden with the engine.
Gotta love Rooney though, such a character. He is a good pundit tbh, i like seeing him in the expert panel. Wayne always brings a smile to the face, dunno if it is the scouser accent or but good lad none the less 🤣
Pickford
Trent Walker Maguire Shaw
Stones(Hybrid Cb/CDM)
Rice Bellingham
Saka Kane Foden
433 with the ball, 523 without the ball. Have to maximise Stones ability to step in and add solidity next to rice. Walkers recovery pace can help maguire by tucking in during transition. Also let's trent get in as a rb with freedom of having Walker behind him.
Game for a final:
Pickford
Walker. Stones. Maguire. Shaw
Rice
Gallagher/mainoo
Bellingham
Saka. Kane. Foden
slap Trent in midfield instead of Gallagher/Mainoo and replace maguire with literally anyone else and that’s the best team for final
Mainoo lol
Go watch what Loftus Cheek is doing in Serie A this season
They forgot Jack Butland. Guys in his prime right now.
Maguire, Shaw and rashford should be no where near this England 11
I think on left for more control need a Grealish ,Rashford is a good to but Grealish will be a better for this team
Pickford, Walker, Stones, (No idea), Chilwell, Rice, Trent, Bellingham, Foden, Kane, Saka. That has to be it.
With 5 subs allowed , it would be crazy not to take Palmer, Gordon , Bowen and Toney, all of whom can make a difference.
Plus, it makes sense to give players a rest in a long tournament.
With the attacking players at Southgates disposal, alternative tactics can be figured out during a game, if things aren't going well.
However I expect Southgate to be uncreative, and stick with his old guard.
I think in reality Foden starts on the left with either Henderson or Gallagher alongside Bellingham and Rice. I’d love to see Foden centrally but nothing indicates Southgate sees it that way.
agreed, Id love to see White as RB or CB option but in reality Southgates not picking him. Missed opportunities on both selections.
How does Rashford keep getting away with this 😂😂
Rice is unbelievable, two man in one. But Southgate ofcourse will opt for a double pivot even against the likes of Malta and Gibraltar
We should find a really charismatic coach who can persuade Mbappe that his gran was English. It worked for Big Jack.
With that midfield the LW has to Grealish. He offers more defensively than Rashford
Rooney is right. Unless Bellingham is asked to play deeper to support Rice. Or they play like Arteta with essentially two 10s and inverted full backs to support Rice, which they wont with Shaw and Southgate doesnt have the knowledge to.
That team is winning absolutely f**k all
Wazza's right. Foden out to the left, cutting back in. Rice along side an other DM with Bellingham ahead in free role.
Why would anyone start harry maguire over levi colwill? Are we living in the twilight zone?
Gonna be honest I think Phil should play as a LW and Maddison cm
Foden on the wing with Saka, play Tomori with Maguire and Stones in a double pivot with Rice whilst Jude sits just behind Kane. I’d keep the rest the same.
Rooney's is right on the money, there is not enough grit in that midfield, they could easily get overrun.
At least Cara and Nev know what they are talking about it.
I'm not English but to put Marcus in there is criminal 😂
