It's like a universal remote control for almost everything. No need to ever again buy a remote control for anything. At work, there is a projector and I always use my phone to move it around haha. But yes, you can definitively troll someone at Walmart in the electronics department with their tvs with your phone lol
(Edit: Here I am 2 months later, and I finally purchased this phone. It is a durable, solid, top quality phone that rivals, and even beats the other severely overpriced flagships. It is the best value phone I have ever seen, or owned, and I'm not even exaggerating.) Remember, Linus, this is a flagship phone that sells for HALF the price of other flagships that RUclipsrs like you regularly worship. Cost still matters in this world. You used to be the guy who filmed videos in his kitchen and always appreciated good value. Now that you have all the tech in the world at your literal disposal... Please don't be that guy. The guy who starts getting eaten by his unlimited access to most products and technology, eventually becoming dismissive and sarcastic towards "lesser" brands. Frankly, you are starting to become that guy. That Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra? Most POWERFUL phone in the world with the BEST camera system in the world, for HALF the price of a Samsung - and you dismissed it like it was an effing joke. Can you imagine being an underdog company, creating the most powerful, and feature rich phone ever made, and selling it for HALF the price of other brands, only to be dismissed like that - by THE tech RUclipsr that everyone follows and loves. That's absolutely horrible. Now, this? We get it, you love Samsung. You love Pixels. But that's just your preference. All phones have bugs. A Samsung or a Pixel has a few bugs and it's all good. A Xiaomi has a few bugs and it's suddenly a huge negative. Really? Xiaomi literally, objectively makes the best phones in the world in terms of price to performance, and it has always connected with its fans on a deeper level than other "capitalist wh*re" brands with $1,400 flagships. Like I said - don't be that guy.
having a 108mp camera doesn't mean good picture quality. in fact its the opposite for most of the time. most of the hate xiaomi gets is because of their MIUI ,their ads and their extremely slower updates. my poco f1 still haven't got the android 11 update and so does many other newer models. xiaomi intentionally crippled the image quality of poco f1 in their native camera app so that it won't sabotage their flagship llineups. now i use google camera app to get decent images. i agree! xiaomi makes some excellent and impressive hardware. my poco f1 is built like a tank that i've been using it without any case. but their software is made both intentionally and non intentionally mediocre. if i can spend a 700 to 900usd on a phone then i would gladly buy any branded flagships than a xiaomi or an huawei smartphone.
Bro the camera is trash. More megapixels doesn't mean more better. Google Pixel dumps it any day of the week. Also this "phone" is extremely heavy. You'd get carpal tunnel from using this for a month.

It’s ridiculous. I live in Australia and I find IR blasters EXTREMELY useful. Being able to use my TV and air conditioner with just my phone. It should be on every phone. Screw Linus for discouraging Xiaomi.
That's wrong, they're not just useful in developing countries, IR blasters are useful everywhere except for Linus' home that is full of hundred thousands of dollars of overengineered tech that nobody owns.
They always seemed kind if gimmicky to me. I'm not going to use my phone instead of my regular remote. I don't have to unlock my TV remote and open an app and having the screen on drains the battery faster.
I had the HTC One M8 & they killed their own IR app a couple of years after I bought the phone. The app "updated" to something completely different - it no longer controlled the IR at all, but instead tracked TV program times or something? ...Yeah, I'm still a little salty about that.
I beg to differ. Take the example of Samsung. They have a huge catalog of devices that cater from the low end, mid range all the way to $3000 flagships. If you take the time to do your research, you would know that majority of these smartphone companies profits come from the low end to mid range smartphones as they sell en mass.

@@rapiddu6482 Yup.. that's pretty much the case here. We've got a pretty dumb government allowing for oligopoly to occur and that jacks up prices. It doesn't help that the government wants a cut from these companies either. Once COVID hit, our phone carrier companies were like "oh crap people are canceling their plans because they no longer need our overpriced data plans" and then proceeded to offer more than twice the capacity of data to customers at a very similar price. They could've done that with ease but obviously with an oligopoly, if things are working out fine, why offer more? COVID has brought better prices for phone plans but not much else imo. Sadly, internet is still pricey as heck here.
@@poiisondn on the tech side of the things in my country competition is very tight for the companies whether it is internet availability or phones or payment systems. Xiaomi alone has launched more than 6 different models in just past 2 months. New one is coming too. It is almost every week that they release one phone. It is just too overwhelming for now. If xiaomi is doing it then obviously oppo's sister companh realme has to do it. They did the same. Phone proift margin is around 8-9% for most brands here. Good for the consumer also decent for the brand as they sell lot of them due to lower prices. Internet has been breeze here I'm paying the same I paid for my broadband connection in 2016(5mbps limited to 25GB) but in 2020(100mbps limited to 2500GB). It was 75mbos upto last month this month recharge for the same amount gave me 100mbps company has revised the speeds in their new prices. Google pay, samsung pay, other wallet apps(there are at least 100 of them) are all available to pay. Methods are multiple too some use direct bank transfer using qr code, some use wallet to wallet transfer. Now there are universal qr code available on shops which are readable by any app you have and pay from it. No compatibility fuss to look for. No single brand gets to control the terms. Not only consumer but also the shop owner gets the benefit as the commission rates are super cheap for them. One thing I have noticed about the telecom sector that in countries where customer base is mostly prepaid tends to have better internet availability than in countries where most connections are postpaid or contract based.

Why do I feel like Linus kept a tone of sarcasm on Xiaomi while he actually didn't get a lot of flaws to criticize? Updated: Thank you all for the likes and friendly comments! I know Chinese tech companies have histories of rip-off innovations and poor quality control, and even the rumors of setting backdoors for the CCP government (isn't which also applied to big US companies?), so it's common for people to hold grudge or suspects when reviewing them. I just hope judgments can be made based on solid evidence instead of speculations, facts instead of stereotypes, especially this is supposed to be a tech video. As matter of fact, MIUI 12 currently is ahead in protecting user's privacy than the stock Android for providing a feature called "virtual ID" that can prevent companies and apps from tracking user's behaviors and identities. Xiaomi does have a long way to catch up with the big 3 (Apple, Samsung, and Google) in the phone industry, but I'm quite looking forward to its future performance rather than disdain it.
Yeah, I kinda got that feeling. I usually like when he review stuff on LTT, but this one just like forced, there is not much to criticize (Especially the IR Blasters) but he kept talking like he held some shitty smartphone on his hands.
I also didn't get the sarcasm about 'Very popular phone brand'. Xiaomi is a top4 phone manufacturer in Q2 2020 with 10% of worldwide smartphone sales. Like, just google this before recording a video about any brand you might not know.
He couldn't hold off his distain. I have a feeling it's just how he is, until the time comes that xiaomi makes a nearly perfect device that would wow him, he will continiue to be sarcastic. On the othere hand it is a device that has every part of it's software detectably worse and unpolished compared to major brands and have ads in it. It kinda still has this cheap knock-off vibe to it.
Because all Chinese manufacturers have to fight the impression that they made many years ago: that they were mainly cheap knock-offs of iPhone. Even though they're finally innovating and differentiating, they still have this tarnished image from their roots
He always takes that stance when it comes to chinese phones and it certainly detracts from a better viewing experience. Kinda obnoxious when the only takeaway I can get from this video is that the phone has bad speakers(as if that wasn't the case for 90%+ of the market).
8:38 straight up untrue. The Xiaomi community is so incredibly active and there's numerous custom ROMS to choose from. Linus I love you and all but you really came off as quite ignorant in this video. Some of the stuff you said was even straight up false on multiple occasions. Please, either do your research or avoid reviewing phones which you clearly deem "unworthy" the moment you hear their name. It only serves to increase the unjustified distrust the US market has for new devices, which is really hurting US consumers. From your reviews of Xiaomis or Oppos it is clear that besides reading out a spec sheet, if it ain't Pixel, Apple or Samsung, they basically don't exist in your world, other than for a quick side review as a bone to throw to your foreign audience. Between me and my family I've owned 5 Xiaomis all below 250$, except for my new Poco. My dad is a sales exec at an Al refinery (an extremely punishing environment) and he talks ALL day on his phone. His 4 year old Redmi 3 Pro is still running strong after thousands of hours of phone calls and literally 5 cases and 4 screen protectors broken through years of abuse. He paid it 150$ and used it for 4 years. A 1000$ iphone would've cracked at the first drop and the battery would've lasted him half a day as new. My new Poco F2 Pro has a SD865, an uninterrupted AMOLED screen, an enormous battery, 30W charging in the box, full glass construction, 5G, 3 good cameras and I pad it 370€. Quite honestly, I couldn't care less if I found a bug or God forbid one small banner ad while I'm downloading an app (which I already disabled). There is value in things that are not perfect or top-of-the-line, not that Pixel, Apple or Samsung make anything like perfect phones anyways. Please try to be less dismissive of products like these in the future and be more accurate when talking about them (the cover is anti bacterial, the fast charger in the box is actually quite good value, you can actually change all the button shortcuts in MIUI 12, the Xiaomi community is huge and flourishing, there's all the cases you could ask for online, ads are an insignificant issue outside of Chinese roms and can be curbed in the settings, the IR blaster is an extra with a great app and plenty of uses, yes it has some bugs but non-flagship Xiaomi/Redmi phones are incredible value etc.) since they really are a great option which the US won't get because of its lobbied locked phone market, apologised by consumers' irrational dismissiveness prompted by inaccurate reviews like this one. Sincerely, A great fan. XOXO Ps. Fully aware that this isn't an LTT video but, given what we've gotten in the past, I don't expect there to be a full review of this on LTT, let alone one that says anything different than the usual.

(Edit: Here I am 2 months later, and I finally purchased this phone. It is a durable, solid, top quality phone that rivals, and even beats the other severely overpriced flagships. It is the best value phone I have ever seen, or owned, and I'm not even exaggerating.)
Remember, Linus, this is a flagship phone that sells for HALF the price of other flagships that RUclipsrs like you regularly worship.
True that.
having a 108mp camera doesn't mean good picture quality. in fact its the opposite for most of the time. most of the hate xiaomi gets is because of their MIUI ,their ads and their extremely slower updates. my poco f1 still haven't got the android 11 update and so does many other newer models. xiaomi intentionally crippled the image quality of poco f1 in their native camera app so that it won't sabotage their flagship llineups. now i use google camera app to get decent images.
i agree! xiaomi makes some excellent and impressive hardware. my poco f1 is built like a tank that i've been using it without any case. but their software is made both intentionally and non intentionally mediocre. if i can spend a 700 to 900usd on a phone then i would gladly buy any branded flagships than a xiaomi or an huawei smartphone.
Well said my friend, sadly I don't think he's the kinda guy that cares anymore.
Bro the camera is trash. More megapixels doesn't mean more better. Google Pixel dumps it any day of the week. Also this "phone" is extremely heavy. You'd get carpal tunnel from using this for a month.
@@asnaeb2 yeah but who buys Pixel phones? Not everybody in the world can or wants to get ugly, brutally expensive, totally useless battery and cheap feeling phones with not much versatile cameras (this year they met the wide-angle lens). Sure they excel in the picture department but at what cost?

Thank you all for the likes and friendly comments!

It IS a really popular phone brand with lots of third party accessories. You're just in the wrong market Linus ;)
yeah it's weird he said that, I think he needs to look at a pie chart of smartphone brand market share
@DerpyDoge It's also really popular in the EU, if they stopped making phablets, I'd buy one for sure

Mi themselves have an a universal remote app. And they include it on almost all their phones far as I know.
"IR blasters are dead?" I cannot relate. I use it to switch off and on all the ACs around the house without needing to find the damned remotes. Thank you very much.
literally... I have two tv remotes and they're always next to the tv or hidden somewhere, it is so practical just to turn on the app when you have your phone with you all the time - I was so surprised they include it in their phones because the last time I had infrared was on a fricking sony ericsson like 12 years ago

It's a reference to the TV show "Black Mirror" which is about things like advanced technology and social media ruining people's lives.
It's a reference to black mirror, and I think you just push it off because you don't want to be confronted with your unhealthy coping habits :) There's still a way out though, watch Nightwish's song Noise to see (last few seconds of the video, watch it in it's entirety though, and read the lyrics)
I think this is one of the most biased reviews ever.
True
can ya say why ?
Ive had the MI 9 since launch and I gotta say: If you love good price to performance ratio, get a Xiaomi. But you gotta be a little tech savvy, theres a lot of bugs and stuff that will take them some time to get fixed

@@flipkennu same here, I really love it.
I'd like to see a Techquickie on IR blasters
At this point, your reviews are pretty much biased, why cant you apreciate the Chinese phones?
Linus, the price, man. The price! Never ever forget to tell the price.
They probably don't know or can't tell yet. I searched and found nothing
Mi10T PRO 599-649€
They said kind of off hand a few years back. That they normally dont say price since the price changes often and will rapidly date the video (even tho the video has an upload date on it). So to prevent future pricing confusion, they just won't say the price unless either asked to do so or if it's just an incredible deal.
I love/miss the IR blaster!!!
I'm prob going to get this jus because of that!
Worth noting that most Xiaomi phones include one! You can buy one of their much cheaper devices if it's just the IR blaster you want
Today I lost respect for you Linus.
Yes, idk what happened to him. I found out about him because of my friend, and was really starting to like him the first few videos. Then I saw this, now I will immediately leave and never come back.
I lost respect for him when he accepted a sponsorship from raid. Anyone doing sponsorships like that cares more about the money than being honest with their audience.
I try Xioami remote it's surprising good tho replacing the old remote
btw why does linus review always seems so biased againts those brands like they are so bad or something when they actually dont
@Shreshta Jaiswal thats it?

I used to love the ir blaster when I lived in Thailand, its very convenient when the remote for the aircon fails.
I remember back in the day when I was happy to have a 5 mega pixels camera.
Yeah MIUI is pretty damn nice. I have always had MIUI as my favourite Android skin. MIUI 12 is the coolest though with the animations, wallpapers and the other good stuff.
Man when I had the IR blaster in the Samsung S6 I remember changing the channels of random cafes and gas stations.
Good times lmfao
😂😂😂 I should try that too
IR Blasters dead, whaaat!? Cmon, Linus! TVs and ACs like everywhere still use IR, and it's very convenient to have this in your phone for example when you stay at a hotel. Like I was in two this summer, and in one we had 2 rooms, 2 ACs but only 1 remote. And in another remote's battery died in the middle of the night. IR Blaster app for the rescue. Also Xiaomi has their own Remote app which they do still work on indeed.
Tvs are outdated

in my opinion xiaomi does very little settings on their own you can configure much more like double power tap to camera and I especially like the full screen gestures.

you do know that dedicated 8k camera will work 100% better than an 8k 60 on a smartphone
As a user of the Mi 10T Pro, I can say that it has better sound than the S20 Ultra when you tune it in settings
It's clearer, deeper and louder
Also, it comes with a stock IR blaster app that you can use on 80% of devices
How do you make it deeper?
Xiaomi has a great case on that phone it has some silver coated material
Xiaomi somehow adds speaker in a tiny space as an extra, but it doesent sound that good.
Linus: haha it sounds awful
Me: who tf uses the speakers on their phone for MUSIC?
same way apple gets praise for their 4 meter depth water resistant, nobody is going 4m underwater for 30 mins yet it's a must have on flagship
I have mi 10t pro and both speakers are awesome so he just didnt even try them or lied he is very negative about good chinese smartphones but they are the one pushing every other manufacturer to do better

IR blaster actually is very usefull, in some hotels you have to pay extra for using the AC and they give you a remote if you pay for it. With Mi phones with IR blaster you actually can use any AC or TV or w/e for free 😁
Kind of stealing is it not?😂
Ir blasters are basically dead? Yeah, sure. Every TV has given up on th.... Oh wait. No. Every single TV in production now still has an ir remote.
Linus, I watch your videos because you have good knowledge about technology, you're humourous, you know what a consumer wants, and what most of them can afford. You think about your audience before saying a word about the product so they don't end up picking the wrong thing and wasting money.
This video was actually really great but you missed to give out little information of the product and forgive me if I sound mean but you looked a little ignorant about this one. But that's alright I love you and your videos, keep doing the good stuff and I love you
