Mine is a Omega French horn OMF015000. I was confusing because some notes like C .But I tried a video from a teacher that said if D is on 1 and 2 and E fit on 2 it's a single b flat.
How is it for intonation? how do you play concert B in the bass clef for example? isn't it HORRIBLY sharp with all 3 valves down and no way to adjust? Or do you cup your hand more? On my trumpet without slide adjustment I am like ~50ents(!literally about as close to the C than the B i want!) sharp on concert B under middle C
This particular horn would play sharp, so I would close the hand slightly and lip down. Usually single Bb horns have 4 valves, the 4th is a stop valve. Typically a length in between a half step and whole step, (3/4step I guess?). That valve is particularly helpful for those instances.
@@robertlevine1093 So the first note of the harmonic series is concert Bb whereas with an F horn the first note of the harmonic series is concert F? Have I understood it right?
@@flaresarethebest yes, it has the same length of tubing as a Bb Baritone or Euphonium whereas the F Horn has the same length as the F tuba. Both use a small mouthpiece and bore to allow for the high notes to be played.
I liked your sound.I know my horn is from China but let's learn on it first ,and if I became better I will buy another horn with a better manufacturer. I will follow your tips . I came from tuba but ,ore than 10 years without playing
Congrats on buying a horn! How exciting! Unfortunately I don’t know anything about Omega French horns. If your horn has shorter looking slides like mine in this video, your horn is probably in Bb. If your slides look longer, it is probably in F. Best of luck!
Dang it, theres a chick that said a Bb horn is a single 4valve ... Now I'm confused bc you say it's a single 3 valve... She said single 3 valve is an F horn and that adding the thumb trigger makes it a Bb .
She is referring to single Bb horns that have a stop valve actuated with the thumb. Double horns are in F/Bb, they have 2 tiers of tubes for both keys, and the thumb valve for double horns switches between the two sides. I hope this clears your confusion. Here’s a few descriptions of a what double horn is: m.ruclips.net/video/ypmIDW9uRBg/видео.html m.ruclips.net/video/TbPDrxYcOQI/видео.html

Dennis Brain used an Alexander which is probably the best horn maker in the world
Why is it called a B flat horn?
It is pitched in the key of Bb. Twice the length of a trumpet.
