Going from downdog to lunge might not be as easy as it seems! Thumbs up if you found the video useful 👍 Check out my other yoga pose tutorials here: ruclips.net/p/PLW0v0k7UCVrmQClv_-a5jCDlun3vXLwjF

I'll be danged! I used to make it into the lunge 50% of the time, but I just finished your 1-hour hip flexibility class (the one in Costa Rica) and I nailed every step through!!! Thank you so much this helped a ton! 💕

Thank you for this tutorial. It really helped me after I realized that all my back issues were due to weak hip flexors and weak abs. I have been dealing with chronic sciatica due to a herniated disc in addition to IBS and this has helped me tremendously on so many levels. Everyone over the age of 55 should incorporate yoga into their daily regime and toss the dr. prescribed drugs which only make the overall body weaker and work less efficiently.

Wow! I had no idea it was common for people to manually move the leg into position! I thought I was inept! 6 years of yoga and I still need help getting that foot forward.
Last year I used Staff pose to build hip flexor strength for my sweeps during Tai Chi as my leg was not lifting high enough to create the arc. Worked on that all summer. This summer's goal: build it more, plus the core, to move my leg forward smoothly during transition.
Does Boat pose burn anybody else's thighs more than the core? It's my legs that are always "dying" on that one :D
    Thank you Kassandra!!!

THANK YOU! I appreciate so much that you acknowledge the difficulty of this move. I've been doing yoga for years and thought that my arms were just too short for this. After about a week or so of working on my hip flexor and core strength and the aid of blocks, I'm closer than ever to finally being able to do this transition!

Your chest lifted upwards when you looked further forward which gave extra clearance room for your leg.
So I gave looking forward a try myself AND.. for the first time in 23 years of doing yoga, I did a full step through. Despite having weak hip flexors due to an injury that never healed right. So excited, especially with the bonus of some exercises to target the flexors for strengthening!! THANK YOU!

❤ I watched this twice in a row. I let myself free flow move while listening to you and watching this video, so that I could feel how my body makes these movements. It allowed me to see which muscles are stronger vs weaker, the differences between the two sides, and how to adjust my practice (including my stance in downward dog!) Because I utilized my right side during this 11 minute video, I pressed replay to do it on my left! Haha. Plus, it gave me a chance to see or her anything I might have missed or needed to review. You're awesome for going in depth like this Kassandra - on RUclips we don't have a teacher in the room to correct us, and you're making online yoga (even more!) accessible. Thanks for caring about our safety and being inclusive of all types of bodies in your content. ❤

Kassandra, this video tutorial was SO helpful for me, as I have always struggled with this particular movement in yoga. I will definitely try to practice the strengthening moves that you suggested, and hopefully I can build up my strength over time, to where I won't have to use my hand to bring my foot forward.
I would really LOVE to see more tutorial videos this like one! I have always struggled with Chataranga, and would be so grateful for some tips on how to do it properly. Also, I have never really felt like I do Cobra pose properly, either. It has just never felt comfortable to me at all, unless I place my hands wider than the mat and slightly forward, rather than elbows tucked into the ribs, with hands at chest level like it's always taught.
Thank you so much for this, and I hope you will make these tutorials a regular thing on your channel!

Kassandra, Thank you so so much for this video I'm just now finding it from a link you posted in your Instagram stories. I'm so glad someone asked this question so that I could benefit from your response to it. As a person who is suffering from range of motion issues due to a muscle disease, I am a rockstar at stepping through on my left side but on my right side I end up just putting my knees down and repositioning so thank you so much for breaking this down step by step and the thought process and psychology behind it. I love when really good yoga teachers explain things out so that you can think about it logically and see how the steps go together. I am a person who is really big on the why and the how so thank you very much

Great tips, the thigh to the belly, and look ahead to lengthen cues worked great for me. I think the "knee to nose" causes many , including myself to lower the head and create a rounded back, not the intention for that phrase, but that's how I have been interpreting it for too long, thank you for sorting us out ;p

I've watched so many of these videos and was not really expecting much but this worked for me! I'm one of those who thinks my legs are too long to step forward so my foot only ends up half the way on the mat like her example. And i thought that's just the way it will always be. Before: 1. I thought going up on fingers is cheating, 2. I don't shift my weight forward with shoulders and wrists vertically aligned, 3. I don't look further forward. Now i do all 3 and can step fairly close to my hands although not all the way yet. Thank you Kassandra!

Thank you for this explanation. Although there's a strength component, my main problem seems to be flexibility. Lying on my back with one leg extended, I can't get the other knee anywhere close to my chest, even when I pull on it with both hands. All the ab and hip flexor strength in the world won't help if my body just won't go there.

Wow, Kassandra, I wish I had this tutorial at the beginning of my yoga journey, you really mention all the important things soooo clearly. I just love your style of explaining things, thank you.
Still, the body type does make a difference! I have short arms and legs and a long torso, and when I try to create as much space beneath my hips as I can, it still isn't as much space as someone with your body type can create. Also unfortunately I have a very big bosom compared to the rest of my body, so when I press my knee much against my torso as I can, it still doesn't go as high as it would go if I had a flat chest.
    So, I still struggle.
But, I have perfected the art of helping a little with my hands so smoothely that peolpe watching my alsmost don't notice :)
