Interesting that you think deterministic ML/AI models are the future. I work at a university research institute as a machine learning engineer and in my opinion, ML models that have a probabilistic output (rather than a deterministic one) will be one of the next 'big leaps' in ML/AI. The ability to incorporate uncertainty is missing in most mainstream models.
I say this not knowing anything about the stealth company you are involved with. Keen to see the progress in the space in any case.
I think explainability is one of the main reasons behind the want of deterministic AI. It's one of the reasons people sometimes prefer Bayesian networks over NNs since their decisions can be explained. Mechanistic Interpretability may change this depending on how things go, but I see the push of determinism over black-boxed pseudorandom models as more of an alignment/interpretability thing so people are more accepting of AI, rather than as a raw capability thing.
The best thing about it all is that there are so many people with conflicting opinions actually working on their ideas! That the field has come along so far that the creation of generally-intelligent agents is now part of general discourse and won't just straight up be laughed out of academia. Eventually someone will be proven right, but the more people there are working on different approaches, the faster we get there!
The question in asking myself in my life and in my studies as i look to the future is: when thinking about how to best introduce AI into a new enterprise or sector, how do i go about thinking where to begin?
Just see which AI tools automate some internal function that takes up considerable manual effort at the moment. For example, keeping it to just this channel, I am right now using Adobe AI sound enhancer to improve audio on old videos and post better versions. After that, there is Gling for AI editing, and OpusAI for making shorts with subtitles. The equivalent automations are available for all businesses.
