The entire point of Shark Tank is to be entertainment, it’s a show, that’s the real business. If it was only making money off of the investments, there would be no need for it to be televised.

i wonder if the actual show itself with all the producers and production staff get any sort of cut from the deals that are made. they should reap some of the reward too especially since they are the ones making it all happen. like the video says the sharks have enough money already where as this spike in sales could really benefit just regular people that work behind the scenes there

@@greenlamp9219 none. They don’t get anything. The sharks are receiving salary from the producers, but the sharks are using their own money doing the deals. It’s not like these producers and staffs are risking their fortune if the investment doesn’t work.

My biggest problem with Shark Tank is that the majority of the time, they’re only interested in companies that are either 99% of the way there, or are just straight up already up & running & don’t really need any assistance from the Sharks.
It’s not brave or admirable to make a “gamble” when you’ve got a 90%+ chance of making a profit. It’s too safe an investment. It’s just boring.
I think there should be a spin off show essentially exclusively for start ups with some actual strategy & risk.

Yea but what do they always do if it’s an entrepreneur that is either a start up or is in the early stage with just a few sales? They always try to take like 50% or more of the company; and use the “risk” argument as their reason for justifying why they want so much of the company.

The other so-called realistic venture funding is also greatly flawed. So many businesses, especially in the tech space, chase after market dominance without the goal of profitability. Valuing a business at millions of dollars without any customers or real revenue is another bubble that will eventually burst like the previous Dotcom bubble.

  • @dashmeetsingh9679
    @dashmeetsingh9679 2 года назад +4

Dont know how it goes in US or UK, in India it goes like this:
    1. All sharks are paid by producers on per episode basis
    2. All the pitches and numbers are already pre-shared to a respective shark’s team
This means shark gets return in their investment within the same season. Plus even before pitch begins for camera they already know if to invest or not.

Exactly, if Hari is disappointed about the Shark Tank show of the US or UK, he would be LIVID about the way Shark Tank India has degenerated into a roasting fest.
Also, I think some economists in India pointed out how the Sharks in Shark Tank India were focused on short-term profitability and high equity ratios over actual business ideas. This means that (allegedly), the Sharks intentionally attempt to lower the valuation so that they can snap up big equities. Some business ideas require large capital investments and give out massive returns, but the sharks would be unwilling to invest, while actual Venture Capitalists will be willing in some cases.

If they had to do anything apart from that, mostly its NO.
Plus the exposure would be there with featuring on National TV.
There was one Papad brand for which Sharks said No to S1 and then was shown in S2 that they have invested in it after episode premeried on TV.
The orders for brand increased exponentially and they made offer almost on previous valuation, which would stood void, coz now sales were really high.

In 2011 the Mavs were worth $497m which was 4th highest in the NBA. Now they're worth $2.7b and are the 8th highest valued. The value of NBA teams has increased a lot over the last 10-15 years so Shark Tank being the reason the mavs value increased isn't true. If anything there growth is inline or below average compared to the rest of the NBA

Whereas, VC firmthe s mostly focus on tech industry which is typically deals with high multiples and extreme valuations. What we see in Shark Tank are mostly consumer brands that are suited for informercials and usually have lower multiples or P/Es.

the Dallas metro area increased in size by 2.5 million people between 2003 and 2021. That huge increase in local fan base is a large contributor to the increase in value for Dallas sports teams. the Cowboys are one of the most valuable sports teams in the world.
as for Chris Sacca, i can understand the confusion. why be a billionaire in the first place if you're satisfied by being something closer to upper middle class? what are you accumulating this money for? are you just a miser? that's what people start to think about rich people who don't spend their money. you actually just love money itself, and that's not appealing.

One criticism on the Mark Cuban and Mavericks value point. I don’t think you can equate the Mavs rise in value to Marks spot on Shark Tank. Go look at the value of every single NBA team over that period of time, they all skyrocketed in value by several 100%. During that time period the NBA signed valuable new broadcasting deals with US networks and strengthened its relationship with China resulting in valuable new broadcasting deals with Chinese networks. The teams all get a cut of broadcasting revenue. It’s this massive increase in revenue and popularity (which results in more revenue through merch sales) that led the increase in value of NBA teams.

What an incredibly stupid take. The Mavericks is only worth billions of dollars because of Shark Tank? How about every other NBA team? Or the fact that the NBA as a whole skyrocketed in value? LOL
Not to mention the investors have no reason to be there because they can only grow their net worth a paltry few hundred thousand dollars? Are you kidding me? Who is stupid enough to turn down an easy 200k? You think just because they're rich they don't want to grow their bank account any more? Absolutely trash analysis.

I never bought into the hype tbh. Especially when I saw how Kevin treats the entrepreneurs. It's so absurd and pointlessly rude. He's being ahole for the sake of hype or views or whatever he or they gain from the whole thing.

Chris Sacca is my kind of rich person.
Truckee, CA is beautiful, it is in the Sierra Nevadas, next to Lake Tahoe.
Having a 3 bedroom modest home there beats a multi-million dollar home anywhere in the entire country that isn't literally right on the beach. No contest.
Too bad the producers couldn't use this as a legit quirk of this guy vs the other sharks to make him the more relatable "character" in the show, and just roll with it......
