Hello Sophia? How are you? I had stopped relaxing my hair since 2012. I've cut off the old relaxed hair and started going natural. In doing so, I was wearing either braids or wigs until my hair got to shoulder length. Anyway, I started doing a silk press (using my electric pressing comb, flat iron, and marcel curling iron). Natural hair is a lot of work. I'm just about ready to go back to relaxing it. I watched your video and you are very professional. I currently have color treated hair as well. I also have sensitive scalp and in the past, I easily burned. I am interested in using the Affirm relaxer system. Since my hair is color treated and scalp is sensitive, which type of Affirm Relaxer should I start with?
Hello. Thank you so much for the compliments. If you have a permanent hair color you have to be extremely careful with relaxing your hair. There are several factors to consider. Is your hair strong enough to have both chemicals? Do you have dye in your hair or did you use lightener? Affirm Fiber Gaurd is a good relaxer to start with. I don't recommend you relax your own hair. Mizani Fiber Gaurd or Affrim Fiber Gaurd is a good place to start. Also consulting with a cosmetologist that does relaxer on color-treated hair. I have very fine hair, i relaxed my hair (after 4 years) with the fiberguard mild but it was too much texture for what i was looking for, i am planning to go to my stylists to get a corrective relaxer with this one (the one that you are using) however i am not sure if i should go with the normal strength or the mild (i am afraid it may be to mild but my hair is very fine) i am so confused and my stylists tells me that depend on me, i have no idea which one pick :( help please!😳😳😳 i wish stylists like you were here in my country
Greisy Espinosa Hello. It depends on your hair texture and also the outcome you want. You can try the normal affirm relaxer this time and see if it makes the hair straight enough. Some times fine hair can still have a tight curl. So the normal strength should be fine. If it seems like the normal was to straight, then the second relaxer you can just use mild. You have to use trial and error. I can't see your hair so I can not comment on the relaxer strength you should use. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks for commenting.
Sophia Emmanuel thank you so much! I imagine you must be really busy but it would be sooo great and helpful if you uploaded more videos, is really hard to find people on RUclips that actually knows what they are talking about. Thank you again and beautiful job.
You did a great job on her hair! The affrim relaxer is great her hair looks beautiful! thinking of getting mine relax just like this since I was texlaxing and wasn't having no relaxer on the middle or down to the ends of my hair, I just want to have relax hair all over with one texture but not gone straight, again great video very helpful.
Hello Sophia. Thanks for posting this! I am thinking of doing my own relaxer due to COVID. My stylist always used Affirm Dry/Itchy Scalp My hair type is 4C Haven't had a relaxer in 3 yrs. Attempting to buy everything online. The Wal-mart site has a box of 9 applications and an activator (to stir in) looks like the other items would have to be bought separately? Is there a version that does not require the activator (didn't see that part in your video) Also, do the products listed above have special sensitive/dry/itchy formulas? Is there a site that sells the full kit without having to buy alacarte? Is the 'Positive Link' product on the Avlon website necessary? Signed, In Desperate Need of Your Help!
Ashley Hill Hello and thank you for your comment, the Positive Link is a thicker consistency, and can be used with the Affirm Sensitive Scalp relaxer. I use it sometimes for my clients with coarse hair because it is heavier than the Affirm 5 n 1 Reconstructor.
Olaplex can be mixed with any relaxer, but it is probably not needed with this one, due to the fact the the products used after the relaxer with strengthen the hair and seal the cuticle
@@natidiva247 Hello. I am sorry for not responding. Yes you can mix olaplex in this relaxer but it will dilute the relaxer and your hair may not be as straight as you want it, so just keep that in mind.
I wanted to texlax with this product because when I did have a relaxer this worked great on my hair. But you applied this in 15 minutes and then rinsed it out?! So if I can't apply in under 8 minutes my hair will most likely be straight? Maybe this is not the best product for a texlax? If possible could you recommend a texlax product I would appreciate it! Also when I was relaxed my hair grew very fast and it would snap at the crown so I think the longest I could go without a relaxer was 6 weeks. Would you recommend to wait the 8 weeks anyways?
I have a question: my hairdresses first neutralizes the hair and the uses the conditioner anf on the instructions it says to first condition and then neutralize IS THIS DANGEROUS? OR AFFECTS THE LOOK OF HAIR? IS IT WRONG TO DO IT THAT WAY?
lis dc Hello. I would not say her technique is wrong. There are relaxers that instruct for the hair to be neutralized after rinsing the relaxer. The Affirm Relaxer instructs us to condition after the relaxer and then neutralize. It will not harm your hair if she neutralizes the hair first, but you may not get the best reconditioning of your hair if it is neutralized first. It is best to follow the manufacture directions to achieve the best end result. Let me know of you have more questions and sorry I was so late in replying.
great job.. havn't this product in my country if i order from amazon its ok? and is there.orginal.and fake ?my hair dry and Iuse henna for coloring is it sutable for me .thanks i flowing you from sudan
Hello. Yes. You have to be careful ordering these products on Amazon it could be fake. There is no way to know for sure. Do you know names of other brands that are sold in Sudan. I can tell you if it is ok to use it.
No no no. Never comb through a relaxer from new growth to ends. Only if you are doing a virgin relaxer. In the video, I was correcting her relaxer and I put the relaxer on areas where her hair was under processed and then smoothed it through. Also, rather than using a comb a sprush works better than a comb because you are not damaging the hair by combing the relaxer in with the fine teeth. Just a suggestion. blusand.com/collections/sprush-applicators/products/acqua-sprush-hair-color-applicator
Thank you for letting people know not to ever comb a relaxer through theirs or anyone else’s hair! I see too many other hairstylist on RUclips combing a relaxer through the clients hair ! And I say to my self “WHY “ what the hell are you doing? 😩
I usually do not comb the relaxer through even with a virgin relaxer. I use my fingers to work the relaxer through the hair with virgin or retouch applications. Because I was correcting her relaxer I just applied it where it was needed and massaged it with my fingers. You can use a reconstructor like the 5n1 Reconstructor after a relaxer or any reconstructor that has proteins in it that is creamy like Affirm Fiber Gaurd Sustenance Fortifying Treatment. I would not use a protein treatment like Aphogee after a relaxer, it will make the hair to hard and dry after a relaxer service. Hope this helps. Thanks for your question and watching the video.
Kizzie Williams Good morning I usually use the Affirm MoistuRight Hair Repair Mask after and they have a leave in that I spray on before putting the client under the dryer called MoistuRight leave in detangler.
Sophia Emmanuel thanks love I recently bought this product and used it for the first time yesterday. On a client. And it made her hair soft also some relaxer don't have reconstruction that come with it, everyone use just the neutralize shampoo and then condition so with this one u have to use it the proper way but the instruction but I just bought the normalizing shampoo, but went back to sally's and got the 5 in 1 recon the guy said you should neutralize first but I exclaim to him it comes with this to ....so I just wanted to make sure I did it the right way relax, reconstr, normalize, and i use a moisture condition .

Hello. I use the Fibergaurd line for my clients who do not want their hair as straight as the Affirm classic relaxer. It is designed for people who have color in their hair, so it is not as strong. I like that the Fibergaurd keeps the hair with a little more texture, and body after the relaxer is rinsed out. I hope this helps. Thanks for your question and taking the time to watch the video. Hope you enjoyed it.
Yes, it helps me a lot. I was convinced I needed the fiberguard, but in fact, the Affirm classic is the one I will choose. Thank you very much. You really did a great job on that video.
Hi. I wanted to know how much activator to use for mild and normal strength of the affirm sensitive scalp relaxer. Please help. I love your videos. U are a skilled cosmetologist. Thanks
Hello. The active ingredient is Sodium hydroxide relaxer, so this would be a "lye relaxer". "No lye" relaxers still have the active ingredient hydroxide in them, and you have to mix them. They are marketed to be safer on the scalp but can cause irritation all the same. Hope this helps. Affirm does have a "no lye", sensitive scalp relaxer as well. In case that is what you wanted to know as well. I hope this helps.
Hi Sophia I have been using the non lye and noticed alot of damage. Thinking of switching to the lye relaxer. What is the difference between the regular and the fiber guard. Please help.
Hello. The fiber guard is more gentle and designed for color treated hair. I use it for clients who need more of a gentle relaxer even though they may or may not have a relaxer. The classic relaxer is definitely stronger and gets the hair straighter so you have to know what density hair you have in order to choose the right relaxer.
Dearia Choice I had to relax the areas that had no relaxer on them. She had been relaxing her own her and did not relax the hair shaft properly. So I had to apply relaxer to her ends so the relaxer would be consistently straight from the new growth to the ends. This way It is more manageable for her at home.
I thought you were not supposed to let it touch the scalp. That's what they teach us at Paul Mitchell. So is this right or is this personal preference?
Scalp contact is inevitable but if you noticed the stylist was Very good with avoiding the scalp during the application process. Smoothing is when it eventually touches the scalp, hence why you have to base.
@@victoriapearl698 yeah it is like that if it touches the scalp at the start of the application but if the scalp is based well then it should be fine. It's just a strong chemical. I personally prefer to dilute relaxer with conditioner to lessen the pH.
hollywood harlot Hello. That is flattering but no I do not travel at this time. Maybe if you are ever in N.Y. you can come to our salon for a service. Thanks for the comment.
@@sophiaknowshair Yes. It's intentionally underprocessed because I didnt want bone straight hair. But I always underprocessed my relaxers and I never had this issue.
@@Kontroversial84 oh ok. Then maybe you need to use a conditioner that really softens the hair. Like joico moisture recovery treatment balm. That may help with tangles and dryness. Next time maybe try the mizani butter blend which is meat to texturize the hair
@@sophiaknowshair between the fiberguard, Affirm classic mild and the Mizani relaxer for fine colour treated hair, which ones would be more of a texturizer and not get the hair straight?
@@Tasiaevansss Hello. I would recommend the Mizani Butter Blend Relaxer to texturize and not get the hair straight. It also depends on your hair texture. The Mizani butter blend is the best choice. Here is a link www.mizani.com/Mizani-Butter-Blend-Relaxer-Medium-and-Normal-Hair/MIZ10160.html
Hello. Thanks for question. Its not damaging if you use the right heat setting and also a heat protectant. I have not had an issue with damage so far with relaxer and flat ironing.
Hello. I am not a fan of boxed relaxers. They tend to make the hair dry and brittle and the hair never seems to process straight enough. They also leave calcium build up on the hair which makes the hair hard and tangle easily. Hope this helps.
@SophiaEmmanuel this relaxer has mild and normal , what is the difference? Also, can this particular relaxer be self applied, is it safe? And what do you recommend to do for those who prefer self relaxing their hair ?
@@Jazminfields Hey. Sorry I did not respond. I do not recommend self relaxing at all. So much can go wrong with relaxing your hair yourself. I did use normal in the video though.

How do you get the relaxer? If you are licensed you can purchase from Cosmoprof or Independent Beauty Supply. You have to check to see who carries this Brand in your local beauty supply store.
Hello. The Fibergaurd relaxer is great for color treated hair. It is a gentle relaxer. The Affrim Classic Relaxer is for people who want a straighter relaxer outcome. They also have a sensitive scalp relaxer which can be used if your scalp gets irritated easily. I hope this helps. Thank you
@@Keliyahrenee I would have to see your hair and know a little more about your hair history. I don’t recommend relaxing your own hair. If your looking for a gentler relaxer Fibergaurd is the way to go. If you want straighter results, the classic is the way to go.

Sophia Emmanue My hair is very sensitive and fiber guard has been great for me I believe the strength was to strong since using fiber for the past three it’s been wonderful I had no issues until I use this one so now I’m copping with getting my hair back together
Ok. I understand. You should try using Olaplex. You can ask your stylist for the in salon treatment or buy the Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector. It helps to strengthen the hair by multiplying the bonds broken during chemical services. It is not like a protein treatment because they tend to harden the hair temporarily by coating the hair shaft, olaplex works on the bonds that break. When the bonds break, they leave your hair in a weaker state after chemical services, if you use the Olaplex you will notice less breakage, more strength. Try it either once a month or every 2 weeks.
Both the stylist and the client are so beautiful.
Thank you.

Oh. Thank you.
You two have a very beautiful skin girls L❤❤ it👄👄
Thank you. I feel special ❤
I can definitely try and up load more videos. Thank you for the compliment. What are some topics you would be interested in?
You did a great job on her hair! The affrim relaxer is great her hair looks beautiful! thinking of getting mine relax just like this since I was texlaxing and wasn't having no relaxer on the middle or down to the ends of my hair, I just want to have relax hair all over with one texture but not gone straight, again great video very helpful.
Thank you. Yes. You can achieve a relaxer that is not bone straight but still evenly relaxed so your hair will not break off.
Hello Sophia. Thanks for posting this! I am thinking of doing my own relaxer due to COVID.
My stylist always used Affirm Dry/Itchy Scalp
My hair type is 4C
Haven't had a relaxer in 3 yrs.
Attempting to buy everything online.
The Wal-mart site has a box of 9 applications and an activator (to stir in) looks like the other items would have to be bought separately?
Is there a version that does not require the activator (didn't see that part in your video)
Also, do the products listed above have special sensitive/dry/itchy formulas?
Is there a site that sells the full kit without having to buy alacarte?
Is the 'Positive Link' product on the Avlon website necessary?

Pls after the shampoo can u use conditioner
Hello. Sure you can. I used the positive link conditioner
@sophiaknowshair OK thanks
Is the affirm positive link and reconstructor the same
Ashley Hill Hello and thank you for your comment, the Positive Link is a thicker consistency, and can be used with the Affirm Sensitive Scalp relaxer. I use it sometimes for my clients with coarse hair because it is heavier than the Affirm 5 n 1 Reconstructor.
@@sophiaknowshair but I'd it the same stuff as it smells similar?
Please tell me where this salon is located?
Hey. check out my website for business information. www.crownworthy.com
When did you apply the leave in detangler? Was it after you blow dried her hair ?
Great job
Keith Womack Thank you
Can you mix olaplex with this relaxer?
Ariana GM I used it for the first time today man this is the best one ever 🙌🏾
Mizani Butter Blend is better option for texlaxing but be caring relaxing your own hair.
@@zcopeland3928 Glad you liked it.
@@sophiaknowshair Thank you. My textlaxed hair is very brittle and scalp very dry. I'm giving up!
I have a question: my hairdresses first neutralizes the hair and the uses the conditioner anf on the instructions it says to first condition and then neutralize
IS THIS DANGEROUS?
Sophia Emmanuel thank you so much for the answer
lis dc No problem.
lis dc Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and comment
great job.. havn't this product in my country if i order from amazon its ok? and is there.orginal.and fake ?my hair dry and Iuse henna for coloring is it sutable for me .thanks i flowing you from sudan
Hello. Yes. You have to be careful ordering these products on Amazon it could be fake. There is no way to know for sure. Do you know names of other brands that are sold in Sudan. I can tell you if it is ok to use it.
So what is the difference between the 5n1 and the positive link conditioner you don’t use conditioner after the shampoo?
Positive link is used after the No Lye Relaxer application 5n1 is used on the Affirm Classic relaxer.
Yes. Definitely use a conditioner after the neutralizer is rinsed out.
Pls as professional will advice combing through hair whiles relaxing?
@@rinalioness4965 Hello and your welcome. Yes. A lot of stylist do it and it is part of the reason we have so many issues with hair loss and breakage.
Pls why didn’t u comb through the hair whiles relaxing? And again when is it appropriate to apply protein treatment after a relaxer?
Hello my i use it Every one month and when i am pregnant? thank u
Hello. You should not relax your hair once a month, every 8 weeks is safer, and ask your doctor if it is ok to relax your hair while pregnant.
Gm ms.Sophia what did you use after you rinse the normalizingshampoo out
Kizzie Williams Good morning I usually use the Affirm MoistuRight Hair Repair Mask after and they have a leave in that I spray on before putting the client under the dryer called MoistuRight leave in detangler.
Ok. No problem. Glad you asked me. Now you know. Thanks for sharing and commenting.
Sophia Emmanuel so I did do everything right ?
Kizzie Williams yes. Base, relaxe, reconstruct, normalize then condition again if needed.
Beautiful results! Where is your salon? I’m looking for a new beautician.

Where does the reconstructor come in?
She Tried It The 5n1 Reconstructor is applied once the relaxer is rinsed out and before the neutralizer shampoo is used.
Where can I purchase this relaxer,am afraid of buying the fake one.
Hello. I am not sure where you can buy this relaxer because a lot of places are not authorized to sell it unless they are authorized distributors or licensed cosmetologist. If you are licensed you can purchase from Cosmoprof. Hope this helps
Where is your salon located in NY?

hi, is there a difference with the fiberguard line?
Thank you. Glad I could help.
Hi. I wanted to know how much activator to use for mild and normal strength of the affirm sensitive scalp relaxer. Please help. I love your videos. U are a skilled cosmetologist. Thanks
Sophia looks like MC lyte!🥰
Lol. I wish. Thank you 😊
Is this a lye or no lye relaxer?
CITY AFTRIRMILLIONPHIRESTAR!
Hi Sophia
I have been using the non lye and noticed alot of damage.
My experience of lye relaxers is that they do not straighten the hair as much. I stick to no lye
l thought you weren't supposed to perm it to the ends,at least that's what I heard.
Dearia Choice I had to relax the areas that had no relaxer on them. She had been relaxing her own her and did not relax the hair shaft properly. So I had to apply relaxer to her ends so the relaxer would be consistently straight from the new growth to the ends. This way It is more manageable for her at home.
Why was my the hair comb or straightened out while relaxer was in ?
I thought you were not supposed to let it touch the scalp. That's what they teach us at Paul Mitchell. So is this right or is this personal preference?
Scalp contact is inevitable but if you noticed the stylist was Very good with avoiding the scalp during the application process. Smoothing is when it eventually touches the scalp, hence why you have to base.
@@bluebird1694 see thats what I was thinking but the way they were teaching us at Paul Mitchell was like touch the scalp and die.lol
@@victoriapearl698 yeah it is like that if it touches the scalp at the start of the application but if the scalp is based well then it should be fine. It's just a strong chemical. I personally prefer to dilute relaxer with conditioner to lessen the pH.

How long did you wait to do the corrective relaxer from her previous relaxer?
Hello. We waited 8 weeks.
Where are you located at in NY?
Hello. We are in Manhattan on 35th street. Check website crownworthy.com for address.
Do you ever travel to the Midwest to do hair?
hollywood harlot Hello. That is flattering but no I do not travel at this time. Maybe if you are ever in N.Y. you can come to our salon for a service. Thanks for the comment.
Sophia Emmanuel yes. Absolutely!
This relaxer left my hair so tangled. I don't know what to do to fix it.
Maybe it is tangled from something else. Is your hair under processed in certain places? Sorry for the delay, I seemed to over look this comment.
Why flat iron on a hair that just been relaxed, that damage the hair
Hello. Thanks for question. Its not damaging if you use the right heat setting and also a heat protectant. I have not had an issue with damage so far with relaxer and flat ironing.
Is it okay to use boxed relaxers ?
Hello. I am not a fan of boxed relaxers. They tend to make the hair dry and brittle and the hair never seems to process straight enough. They also leave calcium build up on the hair which makes the hair hard and tangle easily. Hope this helps.
Yes. Thank you.
@@Jazminfields your welcome
@SophiaEmmanuel this relaxer has mild and normal , what is the difference? Also, can this particular relaxer be self applied, is it safe? And what do you recommend to do for those who prefer self relaxing their hair ?
@@Jazminfields Hey. Sorry I did not respond. I do not recommend self relaxing at all. So much can go wrong with relaxing your hair yourself. I did use normal in the video though.
Perm on roots only. Your hair does not need perm on the ends to. Thats why its stiff
Hi Sophia, I would like to ask you please. I have a 4b hair type medium tick. I've been using Gentle Treatment Relaxer Regular (No-Lye). Is this any good for my hair or can I change to Affirm. If yes, which strength of Affirm should I use please, as it is better for the hair? Many thanks.
How do i get it?
How do you get the relaxer? If you are licensed you can purchase from Cosmoprof or Independent Beauty Supply. You have to check to see who carries this Brand in your local beauty supply store.
Hi could anyone help with the differences in the affirm relaxers please. Thank you in advance
Thank you
Thank you so much. I am having trouble getting ahold of the affirm normal I’m guessing that is classic. Which would you recommend of your suggestions
@@Keliyahrenee I would have to see your hair and know a little more about your hair history. I don’t recommend relaxing your own hair. If your looking for a gentler relaxer Fibergaurd is the way to go. If you want straighter results, the classic is the way to go.

HI M UINJA BEFIFOGROIRR
I learned the hard way that fiber guard is different from the one your using the salon was out out fiber guard so I went with this relaxer my hair broke off badly from the switch I will never do that again 😒
I am sorry you had that experience. Maybe the wrong strength relaxer was used, they did not follow all the steps, or it was not rinsed out properly.
Sophia Emmanuel Thank you so much for your response ☺️truly appreciate it I will let my stylist know you rock at hair care 👍🏾🙌🏾
