I like that you Kyle discuss with Greg what you are doing and bounce ideas off each other. Can do what you like in youre headquarters now done the 300 foot build. Get wife something nice after that comment😁😄 thanks for the video.
Hi Kyle, great to see more Progress on RR HQ 2.0. you should consider hading some space available in th mechanical room for a air compressor for the shop. will help keep the noise down.
Door is a must, i would do a multiple pane window door, lights up and down staircase, and you always have space to add shower stall down the road with that much space in bathroom area
Man you should have put a shower in there. Come back from work put machines/tools away and take a shower. Walk back fresh to house. Also if you get in the dog house you have a place to live until she cools off.
was watching this with my 10 year old grand son and he said ( I hope they get that lift out of there before they build the wall around it) lol I told him no thats how they will get to the 2nd floor lol
As you plan the mechanicals, consider using an air-to-water heat pump, for heating, hot water, and cooling (with separate hydronic air handlers). This is the ultimate for energy efficiency, consistent with your growing interest in building science.
One more thing.... that room upstairs would be perfect for a theater. Ultra short throw projector with 120-inch retracting screen. All that rock wool and air sealing means that sub-woofer could be cranked to 11. Lol
Kyle, it's a missed opportunity to not put in a shower while it's an open, blank slate. I think it would add so much extra value to your building for very little cost. Imagine getting all dirty working on something, then being able to clean up at your headquarters and not track a mess into your home!
I believe he talked about this in the beginning, with the way building code is structured in the zone his property is on, he had a lot of rules of things he couldn't build, including building height restriction and the inability to build a shower.
Wow, If that's true, you're incredibly sharp for remembering all that. If he can't put a shower in by code, then of course - but if he can, then he definitely should.
@Hopalong..75 i use to live in the quad city area, now in iowa. Build a shower, don't "hook" it up. If the illinois governor can do that with toilets so it doesn't count, why can't normal citizens?
I highly recommend you put a urinal in your tiny bathroom. Check out Neil Koch of Dig Drive DIY. He talks about how happy he included a urinal in his shop bathroom (he lives in Indiana). A shower would be a good idea too.
Gotta agree on the shower.... I get that your house is right behind you, but on the occasional need for it (really dirty and not tracking into home), it would be useful. Also, if there were some kind of chemical accident diesel/paint thinner/acetone/ etc spilled on you, it's right there. Needed, no, but nice to have. I've never needed to use the showers in my classroom (science), but I am glad they are there, just in case.
Your lift really fit into the stair area. So I was wondering if it would be better to put some type of doorway in the loft wall; for lifting heavy/bulky items onto the loft area.
When you install the tapcons do you have the floor heat tubes located so you don’t drill into them or are the tapcons short enough where that will not be an issue? 🤔
My memory is a little fuzzy but I believe he made sure the tubes were plenty deep enough that tap cons wouldn't hit. He regularly tap cons walls to concrete so I'm sure the needs and details of that were one of his priorities in the design.
@@95dodgev10 as a flooring installer i have had contractors tell me it was OK to drive 5/8" concrete nails (and 1/4" of that is the wood strip) into radiant heat floors, several times i have put holes in their tubes.... and they always thought i should pay for it even after they told me to go ahead. i have even hit a water main in the middle of a house basement that was just under the surface. i learned to never trust anyone and always add a day to radiant heat floor jobs so i can glue the tackstrip down.
I can appreciate your videos that actually show building stuff, where Perkins videos show more talking about anything other than building and free stuff they get. A least you haven’t lost what showing how to build.
Are you considering a heat pump water heater for your radiant? Even in your cold winters you should be able to do really well with one. A ground-source heat pump would be even better!
Should have put a taller (8') door at the bottom of the stairs. You had the room, and it makes it so much easier to move large items up the stairs. It's not too late.
It could be so rude if you install a system like the Bosch Compress 7000i something primary heating source. and then it could have been fun if up in your man cave you had installed a floor from NOVOPAN Spaandex Floor chipboard or similar. and I still believe that there should have been insulation between the workshop and the man cave with a foot of insulation. But all this It's just dreams. I read an article somewhere that energy had increased less in Denmark and due to inflation than other European countries because in the 70s they started making demands for the insulation of houses and buildings..
Should have added a shower to the bathroom…. Also, I would make space for your gaming gear because when the wife (boss) watches this you will need it…. 😂😂👍
Love it. Kyle, please remind us what the heights are ending up in the mezzanine area? Bottom floor to underside of joist? Then was it 16” joists then you had another 6.5’ headroom by the walls? So how high did you make those exterior walls?
I assume you will be doing a dropped ceiling in the restroom to accommodate the branch circuits from your breaker box since it is below the landing of your mezzanine. As to who makes the call for the location of your gaming system? As a certain late night TV host often ends such statements, "... a sexist would say". ;) Seriously, though, a great build with great commentary so others can also have great builds.
if they are using the house well pump, I would run 2 water lines, fresh water for hose bib and softend water for toilet and sinks. I would put the door at the top of the stairs
Great video, as always. Quick question. With the bathroom and mechanical doors so close together, why didn't you go with a pocket door into the mechanical room? Was it a security issue, wanting to lock up the mechanical room?
I know this man playing apex, but seriously if you are going to have internet out there I recommend the unifi system. You can use a bridge from your house to beam connection to your shop and then put a mesh system up. Also recommend a media server, you can build a server box to store games (computer) that when you connect another system you can point it to that server then play games. You can also run a nice debrid script to have it give you “unlimited” storage for movies and shows also your isp cants see what you download ;)
Maybe I'm lazy or just a noob, but I would have used a double top plate attaching the top plate to the ceiling, building the wall, then standing it up and sliding it in into place. Wall could have been lifted between the I joists and moved into place. Plastic shims on the floor would take care of the minor variation on the floor. I also would have cut the side of the bottom plate and slid it in. They need stud shoes anyway, don't they? Of course, I'm no pro, and maybe my ideas aren't really ideal.....
If it was my shop, I would have the bathroom door open OUTWARDS, because I know what a pain it is trying to move around inside a small room with an inward-opening door. And you are not exactly short of space on the outside. Just my penny's worth. Edit: I take that back. You have plenty of room in there! 😊
he didnt realize he was building his own dog house to sleep in his gaming apparatus will be in there the next video, right next to his cot and sleeping bag
Any reason why the door needs to be at the bottom of the stairs and not at the top? You would air condition a space that does't really need it, e.g. the staircase Also, with the mechanical room below the stairs, you would get radiant heat through the stairs into your air conditioned space. Anyway, that's how I see it, I may be wrong :D
With a bit steeper stairs, you could have the bottom landing+door under the beam. What's the reason you didn't want to do that? We are used to steep stairs and this one almost looks too shallow.🤷♂️😂
I enjoyed watching this, and I feel a bit guilty..... Who else was silently (tragic comedy style) hoping that they forget about the scissor lift and accidentally frame it into the stair area? I don't want that, but I would have laughed a lot. 10 seconds later it showed the lift out of the way.
I wasn’t sure what video to comment on but if your looking for good decent and bright lights for your shop another RUclips fella just built his workshop and used Braun 10,000 ceiling lights
So, the gaming system will be moved to the HQ, got it. 😁
Yup !,, you got it.. :)

Because it always happens..
He can't, his permit restricted it because the building can never be used as a residence.
@@johnmarquardt1991But he still could put in a shower
Was goona comment the exact same thing. Maybe even room for a stacked washer/dryer

Dude big mechanical room just makes good sense.
@26:05 Future network closet great use of that space. Then you can have you gaming out of your shop area :)

Looks good guys. Time to bring back the Metabo miter saw 👍
Like the idea of Greg as a trophy above the stairwell
With such a big building I would have added a couple feet on the mechanical room. You're bound to put more equipment of some kind in there someday.
Good to see the crew back @ RRHQ. Add a shower brother … that’s a no brainer.
Saturday morning cartoons, good stuff.

Kyle great work love all your videos
Really looking forward to the plumbing, in floor heating system install. I sure would have put a shower in the bathroom bud!
I have a good feeling that your gaming system is gonna be above the shop! The wives never lose hahahaha

THANK YOU. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
It's possible to have 2 landings in the stairs case, an elongated first landing to provide more headroom in you mechanical room. Just a thought.
Add a shower to that bathroom and I'd live happily in that workshop with my old car collection.
So will your significant other 😅
Good luck with everything
