Finally Ollie has his trump card for every drop joke for the remainder of time. Top job mate.
haha true, but he will still get drop everytime. He is a climber / endurance rider not a sprint/puncher type rider like the other GCN presenters. That is why all these epic rides he is the one that is doing it for GCN. It used to be Dan and Si, but they have family commitments now and taken more of a different role on the team. I am like Ollie every time i go out to ride with my friends I get drop every time and then on the big mountains its reversed.
Until he gets dropped again 😅
~The hills are alive with the sound of freehubs~
Ollie dropped Conti faster than you guys dropped this video.
I am suprised no one has pointed out the fact that Ollie has cut almost 4h from his previous Everesting. 4h!
Technically it's not an Everesting as it is not on one single hill. But nevertheless a great job.
He said himself he chose a bad hill, he just wanted to do one nobody had done before.
~ THE WHEELS ARE ALIVE... with the sound of music~~~~
What a legend! Chapeau Ollie!
Small nitpick, the “Ultimate CFR” clips show the Aeroad. Both are super cool tho. Great ride Ollie!
This man just amazes me with his knowledge. Every few days he levels up in my eyes.
Most of his points here prove to us he was so right about it all. Maybe that's why he was one of the small percentages to finish this race. Your brain is no less than a pro's legs, Dr Bridgewood.
Okay, now back to getting dropped jokes...
This video has given me the confidence to buy and use a 11-34T with no shame.
Been shamelessly using 32 for years. For training rides to be honest, a smaller cassette will make you work more, so arguably that's better. But on long rides, when it's steep, you see your mates dying and you're going up like you're on a mountain bike. VERY nice :)
@@gudrune yup, exactly that - I enjoyed using a 28 for the first couple of hours. Longer than that heart rate started to creep up and everything got tougher.....I'm now looking forward to nicer recoveries after long days out!
So in retrospect @oliverbridgewood would you set up anything differently? (Like actually put the rain cape in your jersey pocket? 😉)
When Ollie mentioned that it "might rain" they needed to dub in an ominous DUN DUN DUNNNNN
Same thing when he mentioned avoiding the bonk ;)
One day, i too want to have to do course modeling and calculate which of my bikes to use for a ride.
Def video needed for this.
❤️ The Julie Andrews reference - great job Ollie and well done on finishing in the top 20 👍🏻
He was just outside the top 20 unfortunately! A great ride nevertheless
Well done Ollie, awesome effort. True grit to finish that ride. Chapeau. 👏👏👏👏
What a fabulous landscape!
Ollie is just too much fun. If attitude wins races he is on the podium in my book. You truly appear to love your job and it makes watching your videos all the more fun. Good luck
Ollie forgot to mention that he traded his sponsored Muc-Off lub for wax for the chain !!!!! (PS: I heard that Muc-Off has since decided to renegociate their sponsorship contract with GCN :-D )
Ollie did his homework and it paid off handsomly!
R-E-S-P-E-C-T. I initially thought that passing Contador was a prank only to confirm that he indeed dropped out.
6:25 the hills were definitely alive with "the sound of music." Awww awww!!!
Ollie is the boss. That bike is spec'd to the limit but it takes a true athlete to propel that carbon-fibre work of art across the line. Proof that planning and strategy are absolutely vital for long and/or brutal rides like this one and Ollie had it down to a science. Much respect.
I love that you put a kickstand on, just like the best Eurobikes
I think that was ingenious use of his hand pump propping up the non drive-side crank, and a stone under the front wheel.
Been waiting for this video to drop! Great Job Ollie! Love the Bike and the detail of your setup.
Well done Ollie. I like watching your video for one made reason, you are one of us. Not an ex-pro, just a passionate cyclist. Ride to the level of your smile.
"Some of the choices I made may surprise you"
6.7kg Pinarello Dogma F, not at all Ollie
I think he said 7.1kg.
@@chrisbinch800 with everything
@@hayabusa27 empty bottles and a wahoo don't weigh 400 grams
@@scully2671 thats correct but flat kits do
@@hayabusa27 he mentioned that the saddle bag and contents aren't included in the 7,1kg weight but still for a 56 disc brake bike that's respectable
Best wishes for that ride.
Nice setup

11:03 - Ollie is so cool, that he’s not cool, and that makes him SUPER cool.
It's genuinely his most appealing quality.
Fabulous bike, fabulous places, fabulous destruction (of Contador), fabulous Ollie!
Ollie Bridgewater is a GOAT... He is showing that anybody can go from a "standing start" to taking part in major events... And dropping professional riders on the way too!
Ollie is an inspiration.
I really don't get why the loud freehubs are preferred over the quiet ones. I enjoy the quieter ones more.
Or the noise is there to piss you off and force you to keep pedaling?
I like them a little on the quiet side however the extra noise stops me from being lazy on the slight downward runs and when I'm drafting. I don't want my mate to know I'm having a bludge at his expence.
Agreed. Back in Regina 5speed days, quieter was not only better, it was stealthier too 😁
I think ollie was just afraid his canyon would snap in half 😂😂
Ollie, you don't have to try to be cool; you are cool. Solid performance mate..
I'm from Swindon and yes it is silver and black. 🤣🤣 Too funny to be offended
Very nice! It IS the sound of music!!!
He mentions using a 34 sprocket on his Dura Ace derailleur. Does that really work smoothly?
I was looking to find comments on that too. I thought the max cog was a 30T with Dura-Ace.
Good luck. Just don't bonk on the last climb..... oh wait. :). Well done on dropping AC.
Uphill is where you win stages. Cause you spend more time there. Time saved at 15 vs 17kmh, during an two hour climb is much higher than 60 vs 65kmh during half hour descent...
Anyway, you can have more rim brake aero bike, which is more aero cause of rim brakes, which is also lighter, and have best of both worlds...
Nicely done as always Ollie. Is it my imagination or is your saddle tilted ever-so-slightly up !?
Because Ollie might get dropped, but his saddle certainly does not.
Yeah! Seems uncomfortable
Hey Ollie! Glad you took the saddle bag off the bike, you need to trim the seatpost strap or it will cost you serious watts. That tiny little piece of extra strap is seriously slowing you down.
Great ride by the way!
About time a gcn presenter goes for comfort. un-slammed stem 👍
Good job Ollie 👏👏👏 I have the same gearing you have on my Domane sl5
Need one of those ultrasonic horns they sell for autos to ward off stray dogs 😎
Compact up front and an 11-34 out back, better to be looking at it than looking for it 👍🍻
Ollie you rock!
Great job, Ollie!
Hey Ollie, did you put a long cage on your Dura-ace derailleur to accommodate an 11-34 or did you go with an Ultegra with a long cage? I run an 11-32 on a standard cage derailleur but didn't think I'd be able to get an 11-34 to work. I'd love to know how you did it!
You can make an 11-34 work with the short cage derailleurs (Duraace or Ultegra) provided you are conscious to never go biggy big cross chained, helps if compact front 50-34. Size up the chain on the 28 or 30 sprocket. For biggy big to work you need the Ultegra GS derailleur.
hounds tooth ,l use one for my 11-32/ 50-39 set up . Can t put a smaller chainring on old 130BCD
@@ChrisP978 sorry to be ignorant. What do you mean by cross biggy with big?
@@henrylee5374 Big ring in the front to big ring in the back. It's not a gear combination you need to use but some people get in the habit of using it if it prevents a downshift of the front derailleur. This combination takes up the most chain and is usually what you would size your chain to, but your derailleur needs the capacity to take up the slack when you aren't using all the chain. If you size it for one sprocket down and crack the b-screw you can get away with a larger cassette but you can't use that full cross chain combination as the chain won't be long enough.
@@ChrisP978 thanks very much. That’s clear.
Thats a beautiful Road Bike😀
Good luck Ollie! 🚴🏻♂️
Never before have I heard someone say, "I'm going to the mountains with uncertain weather to boot, I'll downgrade my brakes to save 10 grams..." Hmm.
Well three years ago he'd have been perfectly content with rim brakes, so if a smaller rotor stops him, I say fair enough!
Finally! And the delay was not due to restrictions on the new 12x Dura Ace as I expected. Aren‘t the 140mm Dura Ace rotors more aero than the XTRs?
Congrats Ollie! I took part in the event in the event as welt but was stoped 9k before the finish line due to the bad weather. Wish I would have watched this video before the race to prepare properly. In addition to all your suggestions, what tires would you recommend? ...and Latex innertubes or tubeless? CU there again in 2022!
Aero Ollie is my hero!
0:22 it is clear Ollie has been working on his cadence, look at that spinning! In all seriousness, hats off for this incredible challenge!!
As asked below, explain the no spec'd DA 11-34 id you put a ultegra long cage arm on the DA or just bodge it and then change your DI2 shifting settings?
Hahahaha thats indeed better than the sound of music!!!
average speed doesnt matter what matters is what set up will allow you to save the most time.
"and destroying Alberto Contador" and he did exactly that. What a f***ing legend.
The irony of the comment, "destroying Alberto Contador." Little did Ollie of this video know that Ollie of the future would actually drop AC.
Props Ollie....love 'ya bruh.
Yess finally been waiting on this since ye promised this last week!! Worth the wait I guess
Awesome... much jealousness, even the new Element Bolt is impossible to get hold of.. think Ollie's going to struggle to restrict himself to 250w on climbs.. he's a climbing machine.
Ollie, - New challenge "The Triple Bypass" in Colorado 3 climbs over 10,000ft in only 120 miles!!!
THE HILLS ARE ALIVE WITH THE SOUND OF VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV
Very nice, If I win the lottery this weekend I can afford the trip from Florida to the Alps and I can participate next year. Which me luck.
Ollie's bingo card got a hit with each mention.
Thanks Ollie....the man , the myth. Peace
Can you go into detail about how you fuelled for this ride
Really nice bike Ollie! And well done in the race too!
However, you are not really consequent... I agree 100% on the aero arguments in the beginning, chosing that bike over the Canyon, but then every other kit you present has Light before Aero... Why? Go with the deeper wheels, bigger rotors etc for aero and speed. Weight was not the big issue, right?
Get a load of that Julie Andrews!
Ohhh yeah that's gotta be on top of my favorite things
Cadex ❤❤❤
Great Job ollie
That outfront bib kind of cancels out every possible aero gain of the $$$ Pinarello frame :-)
😬
Finally, the one that got away 👍. What happened GCN?
What do you mean?
@@gcntech well, this video appeared momentarily a few days ago and was taken down. idk what happened back there?
Dr. Bridgewood is a legend.
I thought the DuraAce rear mech didn't come in medium cage so couldn't accommodate a HG cassette (34t). Is it one of those "Shimano recommended things" that you can work around or did you change the rear mech for a medium cage (Ultegra for example)? Thanks!
Just curious Ollie. Why does it seem your saddle is tilted up slightly? That would kill me. Maybe I'm just to sensitive to saddle tilt..
Pinerello awesome bike but nothing against shimano components. But Shimano Components??? On Italian Frame ??? It should be all Campagnolo Super Record EPS With Campagnolo Bora Ultra Wto. Your videos kick ass .
Ollie talks about his sponsored Canyon Ultimate, editor shows Aeroad video. Fire him! /s
Really? You really want us to fire one of our editors because they made a mistake? No thanks, we're not really that sort of company. Mistakes happen! 👍
@@gcntechthe /s at the end stands for sarcasm. That's why i put it behind ;)
2:04 Isn't that an Aeroad, not an Ultimate?
Yes. Sorry!
nice hub sounds
What about the flashlights on the bike? What do you recommend?
Thanks but I think I will have a Specialized like Raphael Addy’s - he did the Ultrafondo in 9:27:04 :-)
I'm sure the rider had more to do with that than the bike used.
#AskGcnTech Who's Gcn Presenter have the most bike? (Not related to tech though but wouldn't it be cool to have a Gcn Presenter bike collection content?)
Oh no :D I broke the perfect 555 likes and 5 dislikes and added a like. Shame on me for breaking the symmetry. Cool video though. Olli - that's inspiring. You might be currently playing the role of the dropped at GCN but you have never failed to live up to any extreme challenge thrown at you. My respect. My pleasure. Keep up with it! Go for the next one! Hardcore :)
Ollie what was your support team??? Did you buy the bike and the components etc?? what did it all cost you?? Cadex wheels $3450 !! what would Hambini say??
Thanks. Very nice setup. But the tech I need requires battery packs. Probably three or four to complete the race?
1:45 "Pinarello F"?
#AskGCNTech Hi Ollie, now that the event is finished, would you change your equipment with something else for another event?
Related, #AskGCNTech - it would be good if there was more complete disclosure about what items were sponsored, and which were not. It's clear the wheels and energy supplements WERE sponsored. But - how about the frame, componentry/power meter, cycle computer, jacket, seat, pedals, ...?
I have to assume it is all sponsored (perhaps not the frame, as Canyon at least gets a mention here), and so I cannot take any of the "recommendations" seriously.
It's apparent that GCN has become predominantly a vehicle for advertising and product endorsements, unfortunately.
Hey Graeme. As listed in the description, this video is in association with Cadex. You can also see all our regular channel partners in the description. We don't actually recommend any products, however.
What are your thoughts on redundancy in power meters for events? Would you run power pedals and a powermeter crank just to make sure you don't lose data and slip into going too hard in a super long event where you have to keep a hard zone 2/3 cap to make it for 10-12 hours?
thumbs up 👍 ... always entertaining - but deserving a roasting 😂🤣😅
let's see - choosing the aero bike over lightweight for the mountains (?) cuz taking advantage of all the downhill sections ... so selecting 28 mm tires (less aero) due to low average speed
... but moving down in rotor size cuz it's more aero (but less heat dissipation for all those down hills) - and changing from my (ultra) expensive Dura Ace rotors to the ones the Kool Kids like 🤔
ah yeah, and going with those lightweight wheels with no hooks so able to run tubeless tires for 242 kilometres cuz I'd rather DNF if flatted rather than be seen changing a tube (we'll have none of that 😎, it's 2021 for god's-sakes!!!)
Right then, I think I got it!!! - off for more caffeine (😂🤣😅) ... Cheers
No mention of the waxed chain.
Nice bike. Hookless rims are very dumb, sound good though. Great job in the race
Clicked faster than Ollie drops
Great vidéo ! How fit this dogma if im 54 emonda? Thanks for help
So were was the expensive bin bag aka rain jacket when you needed it?
How did you get a 34 on the back of dura ace? Isn’t the dereuiller too short?
Is this an Ultegra chainring? Slightly different color than the crank, more gray than black.
Ollie, you didn't mention saddle bag or contents.....just curious
Good work ollie, hope the off wasn't too bad @09:46 👍🏻
