This is really helpful, Felix. I'm impressed that you took responsibility for your injury and shared a valuable lesson in safety. It wouldn't surprise me if you taught MacGyver everything he needed to know about the SAK. :) You are a very clever man. Thank you for sharing your insights!
I have recieved the small firesteels (10) last week. And all my soldiersknives have them now. It's a great solution to have a spare firesteel this way.
The firesteel storage idea and how to strike the whole length is good but the storage of the 3 tools inside and how they don’t fall out if you only use one blade…that is great!
My friend, this was fantastic! I've got both the Swiss and U.S. soldier models, as well as the wood Forester, and these tips were very helpful👍👍I will be ordering a couple of the small firesteels! Cheers, buddy!
I am also using this way to carry the mini scales tools in my 111mm SAK and actually works very well.To carry a fire steel I am using combination of these two methods.Pull out of the handle the ferro rod of the FireAnt and place it into a shrink tube, now it is possible to fit underneath of the Phillips head of the 111mm SAK. Greetings from Hellas(Greece)Felix, thanks.
I am watching this from tiny little Malta (Europe); Felix your videos are so helpful to a lonely SAK lover like me ("lonely" meaning not many SAK lovers here). Thank you!
I absolutely love how you refit your SAKs with what they are sorely lacking! Great stuff and thank you for all you do 🙏 😊 And as someone else mentioned, why in the world haven't Victorinox not started allowing full customization of any of their models?!! I have an old Officers model of the SAK that was made between 1976 and 1982 or 83 if I remember correctly and I won't go out the door without it! 😂🙌
who else clicks like even before they watch the video because Felix is such an awesome guy? btw Felix, it's tweezers not twizers. don't worry, we know English is not your first language. but we love your accent! 😉
Nice, I always miss the tootpick, tweezers and needle on my one handed 111mm Forester (awesome tool). That said, I also miss a scissors on it but I solve all this with a Classic in my kitbag when I have the Forester in my pocket but I like your solution very much as well.
Hallo Felix!
If you don't have shrink tube! Wrap a little square piece of electric tape around the tweezers, semi tightly. Sticky side out! Then put toothpick in to see if it's too tight/loose. Based on above wrap another square piece of electrical tape (either more tight or just around) this time sticky side "in", so both the tape pieces sticky sides are touching. And there you are, worked perfectly for me. Thanks Felix!
Sehr interessantes Video. Da lernt man immer etwas.
The addition of the tooth pick, tweezers and the safety pin (that is what we call that "needle" here in The USA) is actually quite genius! I would much rather have a sewing needle than the safety pin. I honestly can't really think of what I would need a safety pin for as part of my SAK tools… well, if you smashed your finger or toe and had a bad blood blister under the nail and needed to release pressure. I could see using that by heating it up fire red hot and then Using it to puncture a hole in the nail… but you could use a sewing needle to accomplish, ish the same thing and still sew with it… I also really liked the fire steel addition… And thank you for showing the trick for holding it with the little branch… I would use my mini pliers to hold one end of it… but I like your way much better,,, 😊😊😊 have a blessed day Felix…
Felix thanks for the tips. My favourite 111mm SAK is the Garant which has Plus scales with a pen & a pin hole. I think Victorinox needs to make more 111mm models with Plus scales and possibly an LED operated by pushing the Victorinox cross logo.
So good to see you again, Felix! And hey - this video was particularly innovative, as usual... I love how you come up with the most useful "hacks", and this one is truly brilliant! Like the way you used that piece of branch, for instance, in order to use the **entire** length of the fire steel - it's the very best solution to the problem of waste due to having to hold onto half of the length while using it! One could even fashion a dedicated holder from scrap wood - thanks, Felix! 🙂
Dear Felix, again and again nice work and good ideas. I did order "some" of the small firesteel to upgrade all my 111mm Victorinox for the case I might need at least one. Best regards and a good start into the weekend to you and your loved ones René
Hallo, Felix! Immer wieder wertvoll! Hab schon sehr viel von Dir gelernt!
Fantastic! tweezers toothpick and needle are some of my most used accessories, firesteel not so much as I often use a lighter but it's not a bad idea to start carrying one. If Victorinox would to do a knife lanyard with all these tools I would definitely buy it.
Felix, this is genius mate! I have a limited edition of the German army sak that has black coated tools and US on the scale. I'm going to order the fire steel rods and the other items to add to it.👍
Sounds like that's the US military version, apparently not standard issue but available in PXs. The GAK has hard nylon scales with the ''Bundesadler'' (Federal eagle) emblem. But apart from the scales and coating, it's the same as this, and also as the current issue Swiss Army ''Soldier 08'' so the vid is still valid.
Felix, your videos are ALWAYS interesting. Thank YOU. Sorry to see your injury… I could lecture you on using an angle-grinder with no disc-guard, but 1 hour before I watched the video I also was using an AG with no guard. I was running a 125mm disc on a 115 angle-grinder. Very dangerous! Hope you heal up soon. Les 🇬🇧
Wieder ein Phantastisches Video von dir Felix! Wieder tolle Ideen. Keep on Rocking!

I’m happy with the options Victorinox give us. However, if there’s one thing I’ve never understood is why those 111mm models don’t come with scale tools. That’s one of the reasons I have a Trailmaster (Trekker) but not a Soldier. The knives are the same but the latter doesn’t come with said tools. At least we have Felix Immler, who can always improvise a solution to any problem.
The One-Handed Forester (or One Hand Trailmaster) is ALMOST the perfect hobby knife (and farm and hunting): Extend the nub at the end of the saw a touch so can be opened on a pants leg. Can be done w/o the extension but is fiddly in gloves. Add jimping to the spine in front and behind the hole. Needed on a polished blade with slab handles. Slightly concave the ricasso between the lock and the choil Blade (and chisel) material equivalent to LC200n and we would never need a different brand of knife again. Put it in every farm supply, equestrian, hobby shop in the land/s. The Victorinox "Hob"
