The game also breaks its own rules when it comes to making noise and attracting walkers. There are certain instances where a walker is placed out of sight next to a door frame ready to grab you. However, if you fire off some rounds the walker will not respond and come after you because it is scripted to stay put no matter what.

There are some new elements, including the character John Morgan (hand to hand specialist with tons of moves, one of them kicking the zombies 20 feet and pretty much killing them if they hit a wall), and some new weapons besides your basic firearms (such as nailguns that can reuse ammo and flare guns). But if your expecting something fresh and new, well, I can't say that it's this game.

TWD deserves a great game with great emotional story elements such as in TellTales WD. Can't you picture it you create your own character & you travel zombie filled Georgia meet some people good or bad, start your own group make important definitive choices as leader or will you set a council like Ricks group in season 4. Ben Kirkham Well that's up for debate. She is not the best character in any video game. She's a young ellen page obviously written to be a bit of a brat but to have a heart.
dead island was good up to maybe level 15. then you realize that the only applicable weapons are the melee. guns do so little damage that you might as well just be throwing pebbles at the zombies
Brobuscus115 as a survival game. its not bad at all. but idk why. i use regular guns and get headshots. pretty useful. also the rage mechanic is awesome.
yeah its definitely not as advertised. but its not a bad game. would have preferred more survival elements. gathering groups and going for missions with co-op CPU players. setting up your own survival place. instead of jumping from place to place.
Imagine if someone modded 'the last of us' and made Joel into Rick grimes :) he even kinda sounds like him. Would be closer to the walking dead than this shit.
Relatively new and simple concept for zombie game: open world, guide a group of survivors in a overview fashion like total war. Option to get horses, stealth around hordes, control individual survivors, etc. A look and atmosphere similar to Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare with a lot of polish. Somebody get on and do it. Hell better yet make a game where you can control the hordes!
Black Fire Dragon the 13th Plague Inc. has a virus which allows you control of your own zombie hordes via a world map. Kind of like an orbital look of the Earth. Given the proper evolutionary methods, you can control zombie hordes, or revive dead zombies from the grave so you can increase them in numbers and destroy a country. The entire evolution of the zombies themselves is in your hands. Whether they have enhanced motor control or they're brutes, all up to you.
or you could just get state of decay, its kinda like what your asking for, except you don't really get to control your group of survivors, you can change to different characters and have them come with you on quests, you have to scavenge for medicine, food, ammo and fuel, its apocalyptic in the since of what it would really be like, you can do much other stuff in the game as well
Ding ding ding, you are the winner. Too bad he was better in BLOPS II, than this piece of shit. To add insult to injury, HE BARELY APPEARED IN THIS GAME.
Damn, that sucks. It's like they rushed out this game because it still looked when Early access to me. And weren't they charging $40 - $50 for this shit?
Heres my idea: Have a BIG map, you start the game on one end, and you can choose batween the "Backroads" "Highways" and "Streets" and they all take you through the map to DIFFERENT locations. The objective of the game is to get to the other side of the map. Huh? Huh? Alot of replayability AND excelent for speedruns.
I came across this game called State of Decay, which is basically the same concept of Walking Dead only it's actually done 10 times better. Highly recommended zombie survival game :)
I bought the game recently, and none of this has happened to me yet. I saw this review before I bought the game, so I figured "Pfft, EZ". I saw two walkers across the street from me, so I shot em, literally 5 seconds later a fucking heard comes out the cut. The Walker NPC's have not shown any sign of stupidity yet, I was up on a roof top, when I alerted several of them below me. There was a wooden fence, and these BODY BUILDIN' ASS ZOMBIES KNOCKED IT INTO SPACE, and RAN UP ON ME! KNOCKED THAT FENCE TO PIECES! Scariest shit I've ever seen. I can rarely fire a shot, without alerting ALL of them, If I use a melee weapon, I get swarmed, I literally have to try and sneak by all of them. So, overall, on a survival aspect of a game? I'd rate it 7/10. On a quality, graphics, and smooth gameplay? Meh, 5/10.
I remember faking my surprise birthday gift for my birthday last year, mainly because I got Survival Instinct, and not Tell Tale's version of The Walking Dead.
lmao I really enjoy his yelling back in the day, the way his rage echo's inside that room he films his angry reviews, its a thing that adds up why I enjoy his bad game reviews.
i remember asking my mom to pick this game up for me. when she got home she’s didn’t have the game she said the gamestop worker said it was a bad game and suggested to get something else. to whoever that worker is thank you
I actually enjoyed this game. Didn't nearly enjoy it as much as TellTale's comic based point and click game but still enjoyed it. It's a good game to speed run at night with your friends watching for entertainment while you wait for some pizza to watch or play with. I agree that the AI is shit but in the few moments that it works and the walkers surround you, it is genuinely stressful and fun (untill you get the sledge hammer or fire axe, which are OP as fuck). If a sequel was made I wouldn't buy it, but if it was better and fixed the issues to make it a decent game, I would change my mind and get it to see a better version of this.
Am I the only one here who found this game to be pretty cool to play? Yeah it wasn't as good as it should've been but it was still fun for wastin time.
+Rob Sanders I also had a little fun with it but only because i am a die hard fan of the series and after each episode i watch i then launch the game right after to play as Deryl. When i got the crossbow i felt almost like the real Deryl! The game was certainly just a quick cash in but i prefer it to current zombie game where there is always mutant zombies. The good news is that i am a game developer and i start recently to make a true Romero style zombie game with survival elements just like in the walking dead. Wish me luck since it is one hell of a task to do a game even when you have experience.
Wow. This thing's worse than I thought. Guess I'll stick to Left 4 Dead 2. Now THAT'S a decent horror videogame, where the zombies are actually challenging.
Everything you say is true. As a big fan of the show, this game is terrible to say the least. You get to form a group but it's pointless as there's no interaction or communication. All the extra off road destinations are the same and dull. They should of added things like hunting for food, walkie talkies for your team, tactical team work on missions, tough choices e.g someone your with gets bitten or you have to leave someone behind, better variety of scenery like woodlands for exploration and a more interesting story.
Forgive me lord. Thy I purchased a copy of this game for the ps3 today. I wanted this game BADLY as a kid. I was 11 at the time it was released and 2013 was completely MAD for gaming. GTA V, The last of us, battlefield 4 yeah, guess where my money went. But now it’s finally time for me to play the game I always wanted to play. I’m going to do this one with my the walking dead obsessed pal and the game will probably be bad enough to deliver some good laughs over a couple of beers. I’m going to edit this comment later down the line and let you guys know how the game holds up in 2021, 8 long years after its release. Thx for reading all this way and have a great day!
Im little amazed while you Review Waliknig Dead Didin't check State Of Decay... Don't get me wrong review it as the oposite of actual kind of nice surivval :)
Well he has his opinion, no need to make fun of him for it... I wasn't really taken on Telltale's either (I don't think this one is better, but I just wasn't taken on the other either)
I'm surprised you did a review for this insignificant game, and not for State of Decay, Joe. State of Decay got many things right, things related to what you talk about here, even if it came with several shortcomings. I found it great fun, and the Year-One Survival Edition corrected some of the issues with the original.
well, I consider DayZ to be a good post-apocalyptic zombie game, but it's not so much of an RPG, it's just scavenge for loot and survive, and the standalone version is still on alpha, so if you don't like bugs and such, you might want to wait till it's done, provided you like the game's concept though :P..
7 years later and I don't know how many reviews... I have yet to find a single person who discovered that when a herd grabs you, you can press L3 and R3 (iirc) to push them away between each knife kill... It's probably not explained very well in the game but if I found that, they tell it somewhere, what's surprising is that this is what put most people off and no one thought that it could even been avoided and bothered to look for it ^-^ I took this game as a stealth game, I enjoyed it, despite oh so many flaws.
lol i didnt play this game just because of your review. you did a good job! thanks for spending your time so all of us dont have to waste it! you are the man!
Bethesda should help make it so it's free roam, and there is like towns with lots of survivors and walkers everywhere, and the chance to play online with pals and just have fun.
XENO_TRONUS For $5 or less, yeah. It's two hours of game. It's not great, but not as bad as people say. If you don't like it, don't hold me responsible. Also, sorry for the late reply.
How to beat this game in less than two hours:
1. Find Crossbow and axe
2. You win.
No way. THAT'S IT?
Yes.
Crosbow kills anything in 1 hit and you can get your bolts back from the zombies so yeah.

+Rein Engel NO! You can get a mcdouble for 2 dollars!
xA-Town23x Great, now I'm conflicted. Thanks, ass.
they should pay you to pay this masterpiece
Lol.. whats the collectible squirrels for?
collecting.
seriously they serve no purpose
dead island is a better game.
dead island was good up to maybe level 15. then you realize that the only applicable weapons are the melee. guns do so little damage that you might as well just be throwing pebbles at the zombies
Brobuscus115
as a survival game. its not bad at all. but idk why. i use regular guns and get headshots. pretty useful. also the rage mechanic is awesome.
Greysen Cameron yeah that's how I played it too.
yeah its definitely not as advertised. but its not a bad game. would have preferred more survival elements. gathering groups and going for missions with co-op CPU players. setting up your own survival place. instead of jumping from place to place.
MultiHammodi that would hsve been cool
Dying Light is what this game should have been.
It tried to be State Of Decay
Imagine if someone modded 'the last of us' and made Joel into Rick grimes :) he even kinda sounds like him. Would be closer to the walking dead than this shit.
Relatively new and simple concept for zombie game: open world, guide a group of survivors in a overview fashion like total war. Option to get horses, stealth around hordes, control individual survivors, etc. A look and atmosphere similar to Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare with a lot of polish. Somebody get on and do it.
Hell better yet make a game where you can control the hordes!
Zombie Tycoon was kinda a game where you controlled hordes
Nargacuga14 never heard of it.
Whether they have enhanced motor control or they're brutes, all up to you.
or you could just get state of decay, its kinda like what your asking for, except you don't really get to control your group of survivors, you can change to different characters and have them come with you on quests, you have to scavenge for medicine, food, ammo and fuel, its apocalyptic in the since of what it would really be like, you can do much other stuff in the game as well
Donald Butler i've played state of Decay before.
*Repeatedly stabs window with KNIFE*
"WHAT IS THIS BULLET PROOF GLASS?!?!"

try no more room in hell...
Ive played some 7 days to die and Zombies where Ridiculously aggressive during the night even though its still in Alpha state.
No more room in hell is good actually.
0:15 "There's a HUMAN! But wait.. This fence looks more tantalizing.."

VanillaThunder1216 its a good game episodically the end of it

Anyone here after watching the death stranding trailer!!?!
sort of
Death stranding review
The guy that plays Daryl's brother is he the same guy that voices Harper from COD Black Ops 2?
Ding ding ding, you are the winner. Too bad he was better in BLOPS II, than this piece of shit. To add insult to injury, HE BARELY APPEARED IN THIS GAME.
He also voice himself in call of the dead bo1 dlc
Sounds like this game has a great idea and concept. What happened?
***** Activision happen.
Damn, that sucks. It's like they rushed out this game because it still looked when Early access to me. And weren't they charging $40 - $50 for this shit?
***** Think they charged 49.99 for it. Joe says it in the video.
That's way too much. Insanity.
ManUtdBoy13Damn
So, "Merle", Says DARYL'S Name is spelled "Derle", but in the damn Credits it says Daryl Dixon, and then "Merle" Says please get that right.
Michael Rooker was joking with the Derle comment. It confused a lot of people (including me). It is Daryl.
it's spelled daryl, but pronounced derle.
credits: Daryl
Rooker: Derle
Joe: Deryl
me: fuck it
Heres my idea: Have a BIG map, you start the game on one end, and you can choose batween the "Backroads" "Highways" and "Streets" and they all take you through the map to DIFFERENT locations. The objective of the game is to get to the other side of the map. Huh? Huh? Alot of replayability AND excelent for speedruns.
he missed the sprinting thing when you sweat after sprinting for 3 SECONDS
I came across this game called State of Decay, which is basically the same concept of Walking Dead only it's actually done 10 times better. Highly recommended zombie survival game :)
OR just get dayz
Shadowdoofus day z blows^
Shadowdoofus it fucks up too much
Bishop 187 DayZ is perfect for drama and action and surviving so idk it is just fun
summersdude101 I'm not saying that its not fun, its just that it's still broken
I bought the game recently, and none of this has happened to me yet.
I saw this review before I bought the game,
so I figured "Pfft, EZ".
I saw two walkers across the street from me, so I shot em,
literally 5 seconds later a fucking heard comes out the cut.
The Walker NPC's have not shown any sign of stupidity yet,
I was up on a roof top, when I alerted several of them below me.
There was a wooden fence, and these BODY BUILDIN' ASS ZOMBIES
KNOCKED IT INTO SPACE, and RAN UP ON ME!
KNOCKED THAT FENCE TO PIECES!
Scariest shit I've ever seen.
I can rarely fire a shot, without alerting ALL of them,
If I use a melee weapon, I get swarmed, I literally have to try and sneak by all of them.
So, overall, on a survival aspect of a game?
I'd rate it 7/10.
On a quality, graphics, and smooth gameplay?
Meh, 5/10.
Heard of a thing called patch updates?
ripppking Yeah
I remember faking my surprise birthday gift for my birthday last year, mainly because I got Survival Instinct, and not Tell Tale's version of The Walking Dead.
At least it didn't end like fucking Call of Duty: Ghosts.
It's probably a better game than COD ghosts too
jack robinson everygame is
Nate Miller Amen
So true.
jack robinson what is wrong with COD:ghosts? i didn't play it but everyone tells me its a great game
lmao I really enjoy his yelling back in the day, the way his rage echo's inside that room he films his angry reviews, its a thing that adds up why I enjoy his bad game reviews.
1:44 Why did joe censor the f-word once but not twice as he says it right after
VikingWarrior HU laziness
I guess he just doesn't care.
VikingWarrior HU Comedic effect.
All 3 of the above answers are correct!
i remember asking my mom to pick this game up for me. when she got home she’s didn’t have the game she said the gamestop worker said it was a bad game and suggested to get something else. to whoever that worker is thank you
Gamers look out for each other
Walking Dead : Literally No Instinct
You watch and play with your pizza?
Am I the only one here who found this game to be pretty cool to play? Yeah it wasn't as good as it should've been but it was still fun for wastin time.
I think you are
+Rob Sanders "Wasting time" exactly
i liked it
+Rob Sanders I also had a little fun with it but only because i am a die hard fan of the series and after each episode i watch i then launch the game right after to play as Deryl. Wish me luck since it is one hell of a task to do a game even when you have experience.
yeh i didnt mind it
According to my head-canon, this review is the unofficial origin of the whole “You wasted my gas” joke.
Stick to TellTale, walking dead
Amen! (Or as I call it: The GOOD Walking Dead game)
"-unless your expectations are really low. Which they shouldn't be."
Don't tell me how to live my life! (buys retribution ride to hell or whatever)
1:34 did he say the gamer word
Wow. This thing's worse than I thought. Guess I'll stick to Left 4 Dead 2. Now THAT'S a decent horror videogame, where the zombies are actually challenging.
Shit I forgot about those games they were awesome I think they're planning on making a 3rd as well
thedarkknight646 Like they plan on making Half Life 3 and Team Fortress 3, etc? Valve doesn't really know how to count to three. XD
GT M lol hey a guy can only dream
thedarkknight646 Well yeah, they just might eventually create the sequels we all want c:
GT M hate the community of l4d
Comics are better
yeah
yeah
yeah
yeah
Yeah
...2nd worst ending? Then what was the worst?
Aliens CM
That's true.
Mass Effect 3. I think I just puked in the back of my throat.
@@nicholsjoshua15but Mass Effect 3 was released in 2011.
How does it make sense for your car to more likely break down on a highway than a country backroad?
Bad News:
I know I might be. a little late on this subject, but sadly....RUclips muted Cranberries - Zombie at the very end of his video!
*smh*
Everything you say is true. As a big fan of the show, this game is terrible to say the least. You get to form a group but it's pointless as there's no interaction or communication. All the extra off road destinations are the same and dull. They should of added things like hunting for food, walkie talkies for your team, tactical team work on missions, tough choices e.g someone your with gets bitten or you have to leave someone behind, better variety of scenery like woodlands for exploration and a more interesting story.
i liked playing this game only because i didnt know what a bad game was when i was 12
Joe you are hilarious, and I love your reviews. Whenever I think of trying a new game, I check to see if you played it. Keep up the good job.
One of my not so much friend as a person I see every now and again says this game is 10x better then telltales......
He needs to get his head checked maybe he fell and hit his head.
ramlod carter Everyone even teachers joke about how dumb he is
FatheredPuma81 lol
Well he has his opinion, no need to make fun of him for it... I wasn't really taken on Telltale's either (I don't think this one is better, but I just wasn't taken on the other either)
i guess he can't appretiate the story of telltales game but what the fahk duz he see in this game that i don't?
They need to hire Bethesda to make the next Walking Dead.
If bethesda made a walking dead game that would be amazing. Bethesda knows how to make good games. Especially open world, which is what TWD needs.
good but glitchy
That's what I been thinking for a while now.
NO, they need to get Obsidian to do an open world TWD game, they made the best game in the 3D fallout series in just one shot.
No Obsidian is just good at writing the RPG stories lol, they still used all of Bethesdas engine
2:41. Little did Joe know, just 10 years later that this statement became true about lower expectations....
I'm surprised you did a review for this insignificant game, and not for State of Decay, Joe. State of Decay got many things right, things related to what you talk about here, even if it came with several shortcomings. I found it great fun, and the Year-One Survival Edition corrected some of the issues with the original.
I forgot about state of decay, I sank about 500 hrs into it on steam (never mind my Xbox version with probably more hours xD)
I actually liked this game. It was challenging on the hard mode (for me, atleast.). and I liked the atmosphere, etc. it was cool.
I'm not massively educated on the subject, so I gotta ask: does there exist any good open-world zombie apocalypse RPGs?
Probably, you could Google it. I mean, with the amount of freeware games created in RPGMaker, there must be at least one.
well, I consider DayZ to be a good post-apocalyptic zombie game, but it's not so much of an RPG, it's just scavenge for loot and survive, and the standalone version is still on alpha, so if you don't like bugs and such, you might want to wait till it's done, provided you like the game's concept though :P..
Dead island, not riptide
project zomboid.
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooo.
Well... I guess Project Zomboid and State of Decay are pretty awesome.
You play with Daryl's dad longer than Joel in The Last of Us Part II, fact
i remember choosing this game over the last of us
in hindsight not the best decision
Oh my dear boy, you truly are a fool.
lol i didnt play this game just because of your review. you did a good job! thanks for spending your time so all of us dont have to waste it! you are the man!
Obviously it’s a not a good game. But then again it’s not the worst. It’s playable at least. I enjoyed it a bit
2013 OJ: hey joe wanna play a zombie game ?
2020 OJ: hey joe wanna kill some zombies and score some toilet paper?
its sad when this was developed by the same people who made Ghostbusters: The Video Game ;(
rated c for crap
D for dog shit
G for Garbage
T for trash
M for miserable
@walkerjimbo resurrected f for fuck you and also s for shut the hell up
This game looks like Garry's Incident.
Didn't know AngryJoe has done his Reviews 10 years ago already lol
Bethesda should help make it so it's free roam, and there is like towns with lots of survivors and walkers everywhere, and the chance to play online with pals and just have fun.
They're too busy with The Elder Scrolls and Fallout to do that.
bethesda wouldnt help if they wanted to make a zombie game they would create theyre own story.
I liked it. I didn't get any of the glitches other people did. Guess I was lucky. It is really repetitive though.
R3fug33 Would you recommend it if I find it cheap?
XENO_TRONUS For $5 or less, yeah. It's two hours of game. It's not great, but not as bad as people say. If you don't like it, don't hold me responsible. Also, sorry for the late reply.
No problem. I probs wont get it, just asking incase I ever find my self bored to death and with too much free time on my hands.
how come you never reviewed TellTales version of The Walking Dead?
TheRealOGnick because hes a lazy hispanic
Fucking Troy Baker plays Aiden?!?! I've seen it all now
