I do not know what country you come from, but prostitution is a Global Problem. Assuming your from the US,Fyi,New York,Detroit,LA,San Francisco,Las Vegas Boston,New Jersey Miami are teeming with prostitutes and they are dimeba Dozen.
To me this melody is not happy, but melancholic - like so many of Elton''s tunes. That is probably the most appealing feature of his songs altogether. At least for me.
I was waiting for my time to have a haircut at the barber's. Then I got this old magazine and there was a small note mentinoning Elton's latest hit 'Sweet Painted Lady'. As an Elton fan I just wonder how this song would sound. The funny thing about is that I never ever listened to this song being played on the radio here in Brasil. I would only get to know this song much later.
lembro de na adolescencia gostar muito desta música sem fazer nenhuma ideia do que dizia a letra, achei sensacional uma letra tão romântica falar sobre uma prostituta. Acho que é uma bela homenagem de Elton Jphn e Bernie Taupin.
There's some connections here... "Sweet Painted Lady" uses seagull effects in the song...just like how The Shangri-Las did with "Remember (Walking In The Sand)" did...Billy Joel played piano on that song and BOTH he and Elton John toured together....

I love this song. Call me crazy, but I always thought this song was longer than 3:55, possibly 5:00 or longer.
Божественно ...
