Endless culture, history and beauty in Bali. Would take a lifetime to even remotely come close to understanding the richness of that Island, let alone the rest of Indonesia. Can't wait to be back here exploring! Hope you're having a great time!
Interesting memory of Rishi Agastya from India 5.11 - 5.14. I understand his statue is in Yogyakarta. Also story of Ganesha's head from Indra's elephant Airavata's baby (ugh!) 11:55... Interesting of course that the Buddhist master Atisha came to Indonesia to get bodhicitta teachings from his Indonesian guru... Thanks Gabe for a lovely video!
Bali is so so Amazing the History is so Ancient it must be uplifting to be so privileged to visit such ancient sacred sites must be life changing…..🙏……Thank You Gabriel so very much I would never be able to afford to travel in my lifetime but at least because of you sharing your journey blesses many of Us ……Namaste 🙏Gabriel
That was quite a tour guide lady, good English, very knowledgeable & friendly demeanor. Answered all your questions without quivering. Certainly worth more than 10 dollars!
Definitely love Bali with it's colorful culture and amazing, friendly people. Your tour guide mentioned Prambanan, which is truly an interesting place to visit. This is within the Yogyakarta region. Also close to Yogyakarta is Borobudur which is the largest Buddhist temple in the world. If you're in that area don't miss Solo (Surakarta), which is the hometown of the current president of Indonesia. Lots of interesting things to see and experience in Central Java.
2:52 in India we call that kritimukha. Its the face of glory. Its a rakshas/ demon made and blessed by Shiva. It's the Hindu symbol but later jains and Buddhists also used that.
We are snowed in here in the Mountains 🏔 of New Hampshire and more on the way tomorrow…..Happy Holidays Gabriel and a Joyous Happy Blessed New Year to You
Hi Gabriel, this history is fascinating, you get a better understanding of what the culture is and the significance of all this. I'm sure many people view this as hokey nonsense but if you have any understanding of the spirit world and religion and why people act and behave in certain ways. In many ways no difference in other religions of evil and good devils and gods which permeate the entire world.
As Bung Karno (first president of Indonesia) said, "If you are a Hindu, don't be an Indian, if you are a Muslim, don't be an Arab, if you are a Christian, don't be a Jew, always be an Indonesian with the rich culture of this archipelago."
I think it's just aesthetics. We love aesthetics :) I'm a balinese. Probably some other balinese will refute me and call me ignorant (which probably true), and come up with some religious explanation. But I think it's aesthetics, and nothing wrong with that.
@mozo - some of the Indian men wear sarongs (or a tubular cloth that they fold/ tie at the waist) during religious or special occasions. I once saw a procession of Indian men wearing that white tubular cloth - they were on their way to a temple and all wore flower garlands on their necks. This was in Myanmar/ Burma, where there's a large Indian presence. An Indian guy friend wore that tubular cloth to his wedding. In his region (the south), he said it's common to wear white. In other regions, they wear red (or so he said). I forgot what that tubular cloth is called. Edit: upon googling, it's called "longyi" in Myanmar. In India, my friend called it "lungi" (or similar).
You began with wrong historical facts. Traders from India arived in that part of the world. They also brough their tradiations, culture and religion. The primary goal was not the religion. It is sad to see that you distorted the facts at the very begining of your video.

Sorry but there is nothing to be proud of in worshipping statues paganism and worshipping some cows in the 21th century

Any idea why the idols in bali wear sarongs, whereas those in india dont ?
As Bung Karno (first president of Indonesia) said, "If you are a Hindu, don't be an Indian, if you are a Muslim, don't be an Arab, if you are a Christian, don't be a Jew, always be an Indonesian with the rich culture of this archipelago."
Because Balinese mix their animist and Hindu beliefs

They said Asian females didn't have big watermelons... I guess that's not true based on her,
