The Night Lords were evil even before the Horus Heresy kicked off, so why are they also the most anti Chaos Traitor legion?

The Night Lords and Alpha Legion are fully corrupted, bugger!
Look at all the corrupted warband leaders in both Legions!!!
😂 ohh NOOOO..THAT HAIR !? Halloween costumes gone bad? In high-school I was the Crow and the dye that was supposed to wash out left my hair black for months. Either the Halloween thing or you have a new girl or bad friend and both lead to suffering. 😂HAHAHA
Of course this rant was just the ugly face of jealousy. I'm so glad I stumbled onto this video ! I'm subscribed and I'm supposed to receive all notifications but haven't received any for 3 months or more and thanks to my last deployment
( cognitive issues fuck you very much Afghanistan...also I'd like my hand back) I couldn't remember the name of the channel. Big fan of this channel. I enjoy this one and the one with the chubby guy who has flock of seagulls hair and wears the graphic tees. I've never played but love the lore and painting collecting the figures. Joytoys and McFarland figures are great as well and it's cool that McFarland has the unpainted ones. I hope that you and those you care for are happy, healthy, and safe. Semper Fidelis
P.S. Myself and several other Devil Dogs I know really appreciate your channel. We use it kinda like a book club during our PTSD meetings when the weight of our iniquities makes it hard to breathe let alone talk about our loses.
My experience with your channel began shortly after coming home from my last deployment and I was broken in every way. I was also a newly single father to a MIRACLE of a Daughter
( wife/best friend passed from cancer while I was in a medically induced coma in Germany) I would wake up in very bad shape and your videos along with comicstorian and Fwoosh..D amazing ..helped more than I am able to adequately articulate . They distracted from my physical, mental ,and spiritual pain. They kept me from waking my Daughter with my walking around, taking a shower, working out etc. She had enough to deal with it wasn't her place to be my caregiver. Now we usually watch your videos together and I can't thank you enough for the great content and your presentation of it.
Thank you
What, no code!?! Come on Tacticus, even 10 Blackstone or 100 gold. 🙃
Hey majorkill can you do a video on the people who lead the legions before their primarchs where found
If Night Lords willa be added to the game a new campaign with Night Lords vs Dark Angels could be awesome
Night Lords, as a rule, look down on Chaos worship or dependency, but they're sufficiently libertarian that they tolerate it within their ranks as long as its not forced onto others.
The full spectrum of Chaos worship is on display in the legion in 40k. Two of the bigger named characters we know of are full-on daemon princes leading large warbands. The entire point of the omnibus is to show how far Chaos corruption can spread in even just 50 years (how long First Claw subjectively experiences between Terra and the books). The Night Lords in the current setting are degenerate Chaos Marines to the same extent as any other legion or warband.
Pragmatic rather than libertarian. They’re degenerate monsters but even the night lords have standards
@@Xynth25people seem very keen to give Night Lords credit where it isn't due for being anti chaos. It was really only a few notable characters who were vehemently against it
@@Xynth25100 years also no they're not
@@TableGrables Yes, they very, *very much* are.
Being psychotic before the heresy might help.. I bet it'd be hard to play on the repressed dark impulses of someone that never actually repressed them.
Slaanesh birth suggests otherwise
@@swarthygiant1463The Eldars are psychically more impactfull than humans, and more numerous than a single chaos space marin legion.
@@florians9949psychotic is not psychic ya drongo
One of my favorite headcanons is that night lords call their daemon princes "daemon princesses" because you have to be one hell of a kiss ass to be one.
Daemon: "Why hate us?"
Night Lord: "I'm gonna knock you out. My Daddy said knock you out. So, I'm gonna knock you out."
There's also the fact that neither them or the AL went to the Eye Of Terror, after the heresy. Not living in chaos Chernobyl is a great way to avoid chaos corruption.
The Night Lords did flee to the Eye of Terror, and while there are Alpha Legion warbands within the Eye, you are right that most never sought refuge there.
why i do see in the future that miost night lords will join to the inquisition than rather become full Chaos marines if given achoise

Good chaos legion? HERESY!
@@florians9949
The Blood Gorgons for example are a traitor warband that's better and nicer than 80% of Imperium's chapters. Seriously a Chad Chaos warband, that's not really even that evil.
Yeah, the Night Lords and Chaos Knight are great examples of this to me. The Night Lords as mentioned actively choose to remain as a traitor legion rather than pledge to Chaos. Despite having been composed of the worst of the worst but they still had no interest in the machinations of Chaos. They just wanted revenge for what they believed to be a greater betrayal than they could ever commit. The Chaos Knights are a bit more fuzzy on this because the Infernal houses are a thing, they're just straight evil. But there's also the iconoclast houses who often fell because they decided the oaths they swore to the particular legion that found them couldn't be broken in good conscience. Kind of reminds me of corrupted Ogryns to a degree. They faithfully follow those they pledged themselves to into damnation.
@@SlaaneshM30 the soul drinkers were a loyalist chapter as well, that got tainted by chaos but still upheld the overall protection of the imperium as their first and foremost duty, even while being targeted by the imperium itself.
@@kieranadamson3224 The night lords spend their entire existence torturing and tormenting people for fun. It's literally all they do. They are WORSE than some chaos legions by a considerable margin. If you want an example of a "good" chaos legion, you could pick the world eaters and they'd still be better than the Night Lords.
A video on the relationships between the first founding chapters and there most prominent successors would be cool
alright let's make a crusade for this one
yes@@lordoblivion8038
Well, Dorne was both Impressed and Saddened by the Black Templar. Impressed as they outright ignored the codex and maintained legion strength while fighting constantly to protect the Imperium. Saddened because they reminded him of how Sigmund was. Staunch, unflinching, and willing to charge into any battle no matter the odds long as it was for the Imperium.
There is one thing that impressed him more than anything else however, The Black Templar drill the Last Wall protocol into their members as an absolute rule. When the Fists call for aid, when the protocol signal is sent out, all crusades stop and every last Templar will make a direct path to Holy Terra. EVERY Templar will answer the call ASAP. The sheer volume of ships appearing around Terra would be enough to make a wall around it. The Fists are designed to hold ground, the Templar are designed to take ground. You put them together and working fluidly and you have a terrifying enemy.
Is 10 minutes enough time for that though?
Well damn im upvoting this, please make it my guy
Tossing Sevatar is unforgivable. both during the heresy and potentially in the current setting, that wacko could make the night lords have the attention they deserve, also since it wouldn't hurt Talos and the warbands storyline.
There's too much compliance in the black army and his acquaintances.
Unfortunately for the thought of Sevatar in 40k, Astartes still age and wear down. Dante's the oldest alive today at just over 1000 and before the Rubicon he was getting to be almost decrepit, far from his prime. Unless GW fridges him in the Warp (which would have its own issues) Sevatar would be truly ancient.
@@Xynth25 Yeah Looking At Bjorn Dude's On Multiple Life Support Systems And Can Barely Move Around, Although He's In A Dreadnought.
Astartes in the Eye of Terror haven't aged nearly as much as their Loyalist brethren. Abby is the prime example.
@@Sweetness71775 Yes, but last we saw Sevatar was in custody of the Dark Angels. Fanon has him becoming the leader of a loyalist chapter, but we've got no concrete clue. He's either been executed as a traitor, died in combat as a loyalist in like M32, or he's a Dreadnaught.
@@Xynth25 , it's a thing to take in consideration, but remember that the eye of terror is not inside the warp. It's just a place where the barrier between both planes is really thin. Most traitors lived there after the heresy and stayed there until the fall of Cadia.
Why I mention this? Because for these guys, these past 10k years have NOT been that long for them. 2 examples I could think are in the black legion books and Ahriman's series as well. In both, there's dialogue about how was for them when they travel outside the eye. What for Sigismund was almost 1thousand years, for the black legion was something like a decade or two.
Unfortunately, most traitors have been "blessed" with chaos, which definitely extends their lifespan. Iron warriors and thousand sons are the least chaos imbued, and in both cases there are alive astartes who were part of the heresy.
Given all of this, it's feasible for me to imagine a Sevatar aged like the lion is right now.
Dreadnought I could almost confirm it's not the case, since in the nightlords books the unaccountable fate of Sevatar is present, and stuff like dreadnoughts are a thing that cannot be unknown, even for the madmen the NL are
I wonder if Chaos was the reason why Konrad got those visions and drove him to be on the side of the Traitor Legions.
Actually, it was a primarch power, much like Sanguinius, and Russ’s weird rune-foresight stuff.
I wouldn't put it past the ruininous powers to have played that game with all of the more sensitive Primarchs to find weaknesses in their mental states.
More like the Emprah just fudged the geneseed with a bunch of crap to see what happens :D
thats actually interesting as hell and would make Konrad more tragic.
If I remember right Conrad was thrown into a portal to the warp while fighting on McCraig and fought a demon back out of the warp and killed it.
I think after his fight he saw the eternal truth, and his already tenuous grip on his sanity was broken.
I seem to recall him saying something like “the real gods are laughing at us” or something like that.
May have gotten the details wrong
It helps that unlike the Thousand Sons, the Night Lords didn't have to contend with the flesh change and in the current setting, their psychopathic Primarch is dead whereas the Thousand Sons still have their psychopathic Primarch who also happens to be an egomaniacal demon space wizard. Furthermore, no Night Lord was turned into a dusty golem.
exept Lonrad might be alive as Sevetar might have shot that assassin before he gould kill Konrad Curse fully
@no-nonseplayer6612 Key term there MIGHT be and even then, it's a stretch. Magnus the Red on the other hand, is canonically active within the setting.
I wouldn’t call Magnus Psychopathic, maybe just because people always say that for mental illness and writing and it is really, really narrow minded. It lacks nuance. He doesn’t really have too many psychopathic traits. I would probably say it for Angron pre-fall, maybe, but not for Magnus.
Also, Magnus didn’t do the Rubrics, that was Ahriman. And tbh, the fact that exists in the setting is among the dumber things in 40k tbh.
Edit: Same for Konrad btw, even though he technically fits more. But Konrad also has some other traits that fit into other illnesses. And Konrad gets a partial pass because he sees visions basically all the time. I cant say with good logic and conscience he is a psychopath when you constantly see the future, but it is basically worse then Perturabo who saw the eye of terror since birth.
@@twenty-fifth420 i would say Magnus is troubled because hes still missing like 50% oh his shards so that also affects his wellbeing i think magnus at 80% would be more stable and interesting and probably trying to undo his Daemonication at some point
...........and..... although the Night Lords are all Mega Halloween, they don't depend on Warp magic as their main weapon.
Lord Curze’s truth shall be made manifest. A galaxy united not by the lies of the imperium or chaos, but through the only force mankind understands: FEAR.
Fear is a short term solution.
Just look how well the fear based approach worked on Nostramo.
I would like to point out that when dorn ate it,curze actually felt bad because at that time he actually wasnt as bad because he was recently healed by big e
I am happy GW gave us some new mini bits for us to play with. I am also happy you covered them again
The Night Lords trilogy also mentions that Talos was often unaware of just how corrupted the Night Lords had become. They are certainly far less corrupted than the other traitor legions, but they aren't immune to their father's wilfull self-delusion.
Attempt number 7:
What if the Primarchs where found in the order of their creation. So the Lion was first and Horus was nearly last. I think that could change quite a bit, don't you think?
P:S yeah, I'm definitely doing this till it gets to a 100.
JOIN ME MY BROTHERS!!
Actually, it's heavily implied that the primarchs were given life simultaneously. There's no connection between the legion # and their biological age. As a matter of fact, some legions precede their respective primarchs. The Lion is indeed connected to his # in the lore, but I would say it was by design. As big E had a role for each of them, giving the Lion the 1st legion to be under his command probably was to fulfill his position.
How could a legion, made with the geneseed of a primarch come before their primarch?
@@hl48 Cause the Primarchs where only in the gestation pods when the Geneseed was taken from them.
@@matiashofmann6010It is stated that the Lion was the firstborn and the template all other Primarchs were based on. While some were definitely designed at the same time, some had a lot more work put into them than others. There's also the fact that the Emperor and Malcador decided to create redundancies which could probably help us understand what the lost Primarchs were meant to be.
@@starhammer5247 both of these statements are completly incorrect.
I so badly want to make a list of Night Lords and Iron Warriors under one banner
Do it brother
No reason why they couldn't fight side by side. But like all chaos alliances it would be temporary until their interests once again diverge.
My hot take here is that the 10th company are the exception not the rule when it comes it night lords, nearly every other depiction has them way more chaosy. Yes the night lord hate chaos but i fell that its really just hate for the sake of hate. Talos has ADB syndrome in that his best characters are the opposite to what we expect from them
Decimus didn't unite the Legion against the Imperium though. Decimus had his sights well set on Craftworld Ulthwe. And then they decided to NEVER AGAIN mention that whole plot point. This meeting took place right before Abaddon threw a castle at Cadia. It's about time we get an update on the Night Lords little own genocide against a Craftworld. Especially since we know there were active Night Lord warbands working alongside Vashtorr during the Arks of Omen.
I just want a named Night Lords character man. I am running out of Slavic names to give my boys.
nightlord successor chapter loyalists would help ya with that
I really love the Nightlords especially when they resist chaos and it's pull, to spit in its face as a weak crutch for weak people.
I seriously hope we get a single character ideally Decimus or a unit of terror infantry with some rules as I miss the rules we had in 9th.
Day 42 of asking for a video on Trajann Valoris
I always thought that NL, fundamentally, are obsessed with having all the advantages and no disadvantages, which is why Chaos is a loss-loss for them.
I know there are a night lord warband call the gorechained who worship khorne and another night lord warband call raptorous flayhost who worship tzeentch and slaanesh
The remaining night lords are scattered and divided. So it's not surprising that many succumb to chaos worship.
Their Daddy is no longer around to keep them in line and none of them are willing to take up the mantel.
When in the eye of terror do as the Chaos marines do.
How have you been enjoying Darktide since the large update?
Thanks for another fascinating video! You always make some interesting content.
I actually just discovered your videos summarizing alternate heresies a little while ago, and they were some of my favorite 40K videos to date. Though they did make me curious about what you might have to say about some other notable fan theories. Probably the biggest one would be the "Sigmar from Fantasy is a Lost Primarch" theory. Not sure if this is a good enough topic for a video, but how do you think Sigmar would fit into the 40K universe if it was true? I keep trying to figure out what relationships he would have with his Primarch brothers, but other than him probably being buds with Leman, I'm not sure what the others might think of him.
You think if you used one of those aquarium clicker things that Red Corsair navigator would do tricks and stuff?
Day 344 of requesting a Commissar Yarrick Major Mini pls and thank you.
Longtime supporter of the channel bro. Iron warriors are goated and the best , but I like how the night lords also just said " fuck all y'all your all crazy" and dipped
how much lore is there on Chaos Navigators, what happens to those who guide Chaos ships?
The Nightlords Omnibus has a navigator as one of the major POV characters. Idk of any other lore that focuses on Chaos navigators. Sorcerers are capable of guiding ships through the warp as well, so navigators may not be that common.
Make a video on what Timmy would do if he was brought back in Gmans position
Could you make a video on some of the individuals that were protected by the Aquilan shield and how these individuals may have saved the Emperor?
*Cough* Helbrect *cough*
Superb video as always @majorkill.
Could you make a video dedicated to the Navigators, the major houses, their politics, relation to the overall Imperium and factions, etc
In my opinion, when the galaxy burns and humanity vanishes into the gaping maw of chaos, the last remaining Space Marine is gonna be a Night Lord looting the body of the second last Space Marine, who was probably also a Night Lord.
I see that Majorkills's love for the 8th Legion continues. Excellent. Ave Dominus Nox Brother.
Hey MK, have you thought about making a video of what the chaos primarchs would do if they came back, loyalist, instead of Guilliman? Thought it could be fun.
Attempt Number 6
Could the Istvaan V loyalist legions have held Terra?
If Chaos forces were are at the same strength during the siege as it happened in canon
Vulkan is present at Terra so could close the webway quickly, saving all of the forces who died during the War in the Webway for use in the siege (Custodes, Imperial Guard, Sisters of Silence etc)
Ferrus Manus is alive and all Iron Hand/Salamander tech is present for the loyalists
Raven Guard and Corvus Corax conduct strikes behind chaos lines, similar to how the White Scars operated.
And of course....Vulkan can't die
Could Vulkan, Ferrus and Corvus have killed Ka'Bhanda, Angron, Mortarion, Horus?
Nope not even close. Doesn't even need a video to explain that.
Why not? Ferrus Manus and the Iron Hands would be suited to the defence, Vulkan and the Salamanders would be well equipped to deal with Chaos in close quarters, Corvus and Raven Guard could harass them, all are strong primarchs, Vulkan is invincible, Horus said if he had Ferrus then the heresy would've been won. There'd be no War in the Webway. That's a hell of a lot of advantages.
@@samhobbs9116 Not to mention Vulkan would have all his technology which is insanely OP
@@WhiteMoose211that's because Ferrus was a great leader and the Iron Hands were hyper efficient warriors, not because Ferrus was some Uber Primarch like Sanguinius. Sanguinius would literally win any fight he threw himself into because he was fated to die to Horus, Ferrus in this new canon isn't afforded anything beyond not getting clapped on Istvaan. Also, replacing the cool headed Rogal with the notoriously hot headed Ferrus would probably see the traitors win just because it took the cold autistic calculation of the Fists to barely hold Terra, anything less, let alone the opposite, would see mistakes made and exploited. Royal defeated Alpharius because he made himself so single minded and cold that nothing in the universe would deviate him from his plan. Nothing could be said to stop him. Ferrus on the other hand doesn't have anywhere near that level of self control.
Next, I don't think Corvus could defeat Mortarion. Jaghatai had the endurance to match Morty's Plague and Nurglite buff, Corvus is just sneaky and skilled.
Lastly, let's not forget the most crucial element to the Heresy: Alpharius and Omegon. As shown when the Emperor and Malcador war gamed the Heresy over and over, if the win was too one sided for the Imperium, they both rush to the palace and kill the Emperor. The Heresy was perfectly balanced, so even if they do win, they lose. The current outcome was THE BEST option.
@@alastor8091 Rogal would indeed be a loss for the loyalists in the defence but with the Webway closed really quickly, the Emperor is free to a) calm Ferrus down so he's more effective and b) could probably lead the defence himself if needs be.
Also it's possible Corvus could defeat Mortarion, just may need to be smarter about it.
I wasn't really asking this question in the context of the cabal prophecy etc either. I was more interested in the actual practicalities of whether the Istvaan V loyalists found themselves defending Terra, could they successfully defend it.
What if Clonegrim returned to the imperium? How would the imperium/the lion and rowboat Gorillaman react, how'd it impact the setting?

Bro the code has 3 reqs!
@@KumquatChampion 3 reqs? Sorry I don't know what you mean by that. EDIT- OK it just dawned on me by reqs you meant Requisition orders! That was really generous.
Another reason why some of the night lords are anti-chaos. For the one raised on Nostramo and this is my theory that make sense to a certain point. Before the Heresy they were psycho's , killer's , murders , criminals of some kind (minor or major) and people of violance usually from a gang/criminal organisation on Nostramo. They seen the good , the bad and ugly before the heresy from a early life as most of the recruits from Terra and Nostramo later on . At a certain point they see what chaos can do from the other legion embrace chaos and say no knowing how messed up some of their life were pre-heresy. As being a criminal to a certain degree was a factor help them for the better or worse for being anti-chaos for the ones that stick to Servatar or Konrad teaching still in M41/M42 .
As a sample Talo's was in a gang at a young age and saw what life was like in the neighborhood he grew up in under a gang control . Stuff like that change you for the better or for the worse at a certain point even for messed up some of the name night lords were from the Heresy . As even the night lord Zso Sahal from the novel lord of the night was anti-chaos , anti-imperium siding with the traitors while sticking true to the legion values when they meet a night lord warband that embrace chaos mutation's .
They’re a jealous bunch the Nightlords. They believe they’re more pure in their evil than the puny warp gods . They don’t need the warp to be totally deranged and psychotic as there already that way.
Hey Major, is there anyway you can talk about animals of old terra, which ones still exist, and the pets that humanity still has?
They were fucked up enough before being corrupted by demonic deities, they dont need more chaos in their lives 😂
My head canon: being originally a bunch of violent, but independent, criminals, the Night Lords retained a hatred of authority. They don’t like. Gaia telling them to do stupid shit any more than they like the Imperium doing it.
This makes them different from the Luna Wolves, who were also criminals, but mostly underhive gangers. They were criminals, but ones that banded together in groups with structure and authority. The Night Lords were more lone psychopaths, which contributed to them chafing against any central authority.
That’s just my opinion though.
2:08 video start
If the Emperor believes all his sons can be restored I wonder if Konrad could potentially be the first if GW go down the whole Curze's soul was saved in an Aeldari Soul Stone when he was killed. Night Lords don't join Chaos because they consider torture demons to be amateurs.
It’s simply because the NightLords are already about surviving at all costs, get out alive, youre more important than anything we’re trying to collectively do. If NL don’t win quickly they leave. I wish there was a traitor legion that quit their service simply because they realised that the Imperium is fascist. One good faction amongst all the Grimdark would be refreshing.
Red corsairs being heavily corrupted is shitty writing imo. Idk maybe I don't know the story good enough
Is there a email to talk to someone about a mini order? I tried emailing the only email address that contacts me about major minis. But I got a email back the next day saying something about that address can’t except emails!?! And I have a concern that it’s now probably way too late to deal with!!!
The Night Lords are a chaos corrupted legion, they utilize chaos as a tool and implement chaos empowered assets within their various warbands.
It would kinda make sense that sevatar became one of the first grey knights due to he being a psyker as well as hating chaos (demons) and there being gray knights who where recruited from traitor legions as well as loyal. Not to mention not knowing what happened to him.
Vandred's death was perfect: "I hope this hurts". Also, fuck Ruven.
Day 1 of asking Majorkill to make a video on each legion's best achievement/battle/victory
Video 59 of asking ‘What if Nykona Sharrowkyn killed Fulgrim’
Love me some Night Lords. Even though they are made out to cowards because of how they fight, when they are fighting in their element they are hard to contend with. Besides who decided that wearing bright colors and charging in automatic fire was brave lol
I'm just getting into warhammer lore and am loving all the lore videos I come across, this is one of my favorites by far cause of the contrast between the serious vibe and the aussie humour
Honestly this is why of all the traitor legions, these guys have my respect more than the others. They rebel against the emperor without selling their souls to arguably even worse entities.
Ultramarines = Men who help blind children.
Night Lords = Men who help blind children.
hair looks great mate
Can we get a video on Lord Solar Arcadian Leontus?
For the Imperium!
This is just a question but who would win: Every space marine chapter vs pre heresy legions
Kinda funny that the Chapter and Legion you find to be the most irrelevant (at least lore wise) is the one your Tacticus guild is named after
