The Texas Stock Exchange + Is Short Selling a Dying Strategy? | Prof G Markets
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 28 июн 2024
- This week on Prof G Markets, Scott shares his thoughts on why the new Texas Stock Exchange could be an appealing choice for certain companies. He also explains how it's a symptom of a larger issue: the politicization of everything. Then Scott and Ed break down the role that short sellers have historically played in the market and why the unprecedented bull run of the past 15 years has diminished the strategy’s returns.

I don't know how long this podcast will last but this is gold. Really appreciate the nuggets that get dropped in these pods.
Pretty long, Scott is a narcissist and he gets a lot of narcissistic supply from the views and from this kid.
The podcast has been going for years
@@xKarenWalkerx Damn, hot take! You're entitled to it though
@@SamHoustonSF Not in this format. I used to listen to his old podcast back in the day. We'll see how long this version of the podcast lasts.
@@xKarenWalkerx Of course shes a Karen. This shit writes itself
39:40 Covered Calls are not a shorting position. Buying Puts, or actually shorting a stock is.
If you're not an accredited investor... you should NOT be investing in venture capital.
I love this pod
Right now is a bad time to be a short seller. The US is growing too fast at the moment.
15:19 - So Jensen Huang can manipulate the stock market and give Samsung a 4% boost, or another other company by mentioning them, but Roaring Kitty should not be able to?
No, no, you see Jensen Huang is in the Club, so he’s allowed to do it and he’s BRILLIANT when he does it. And Roaring Kitty is NOT in the Club, so he’s an illegal stock manipulator who reduces confidence in our stock markets. Clear to see when you realize that.
Great pod, thanks to the entire team.
Ed is smart. I like Ed.
Texas stock exchange less regulation and red tape what could go wrong.
I'm sure they'll try and ban abortion at the companies listed on it too
I just keep thinking about Enron's trading desks
Any Stock Exchange in the US is regulated by the SEC.
Why would it be bad to just follow the SEC rules?
What extra NASDAQ rules or NYSE rules are protecting investors on these Exchanges that the default SEC rules are not?
my thoughts exactly...
Are we calling it the Brisket exchange? BBQ exchange? Alamo exchange? Dillo exchange?
this pod is the single largest driver of my impulse buys 😂
Selling covered calls is not shorting the market!
Regarding NVidia’s success
Are AMD and Intel just sitting on their hands, or do have anything coming out, or in development that will offer competition?
These clean Dad jokes are a major let down. So far, I haven't stolen any of them.
Your advice helps me avoid mistakes and failures in trading. Thank you very much for your valuable help and support!
The stock market rise is finished, but I'm not sure if stocks will immediately rebound, continue to fall or swing in a narrow range for a few weeks, or if things will drastically deteriorate. I'm feeling pressed to increase my $450k reserve.

Lived in Austin for 4 years. Loved it. Rest of Texas is *not* like that.
The greed and neglect is so evident.

Dallas isn't bad, but Houston is a hell hole !
no recession in 15 years? i guess the one in 2020 doesn’t count?
Prolonged COVID and Supply chain disruption.
Opportunists took advantage of wealth redistribution. Just a superficial observation today.
yes, great point. everyone forgets they changed the rules then of what constitutes a recession. it was short and shallow but it needs to be counted.
Let's be honest. Texas is a settle for state where you go if you can't afford the really nice places.
There have been better markets to short than the S&P, up to recently China and Hong Kong were great examples.
I think it's a good thing that shorting is becoming less popular, it is a form of negative trading that wants failure, which can bring with it destructive forces. It can also encourage people to hold back negative information until the point when they want to trigger the fall, rather than to encourage whistle blowing.
Stop being PG-13. I miss the epic in appropriate jokes from DA DOG!!
its good for etrade to signal that they don't want to be the home of meme stocks like robinhood, even if they have too many retail traders already (I doubt they do)
Hilarious. I like the Padawan reference. 😅
Great discussion. Thanks.
I must say Scott has nice taste...Fife Arms is dope
Glass/Stiegal has been watered down. Keep an eye on Shareholder activism during Proxy Meetings.
The SPAC / Chamath carnival barker comment was soooooo good
With Premium you still get the advertising.
Yep, which is probabaly one of the reasons why RUclips is raising its price on us Premium users. They have to compete with all of these companies that are going straight to the creators and not through RUclips.
Stocks got hammered in 2020. We have had a downturn.
Let’s go Texas
Dad jokes are class 😂
in regards to shorts: are there still the same amount of crappy businesses listed? probably. are there fewer outright frauds like Enron? probably too. fewer GOOD opportunities for short sellers imo.
Yhea, but no one is planning to hold Gme past 6/21 no one is in this olay becausethey think the companyis great they are in it for the squeeze. 06/21 is when call options are due. So, yhea, it will drop in 90 days. In fact, we should short GME on 07/01 at $10 a share.
"The short can give you only up to 100%" is wrong. That is if it goes to half. My math are too old but if the stock drops by 100x (from 1000$ to 1$) then you earn 100x when you short. Correct me guys if I am wrong.
they are correct. say you short 1 share at 1 thousand dollars, if to goes down to $500 you have made $500 (50%), and if it goes to zero you have made $1000, or 100%.
this is ignoring the vig, slippage, and not using options.
you can also go to a percentage calculator online and put those numbers in, it helps me to do that and play around to get a handle on the numbers
For the love of god please reduce the advertising plugs.
It’s overkill
Yeah once is enough and maybe a second time at the end but at the moment he sounds like a cheap assed version of an encounter of Jim Cramer and a prostitute.
I prefer the plugs by far over the RUclips interruption ads
@@ehlava I don't think anyone minds the plugs. Its HOW MANY. 1 or 2 each podcast is Ok but NOT 4 or 5
I wonder how many people thirst-comment about Ed and then decide they shouldn't be THAT person, so they delete and just hit like.

Short selling is like playing don’t come all the time 😊
Can you cut down on the Fundrise ads. Maybe do it once at the beginning of the show and once at the end. They are so annoying. It really interrupts the flow of the show. I imagine most of your audience are regular listeners so they have got to feel beaten over the head by this same ad. The more I hear the ad the less likely I am to consider investing in Fundrise.
First-world problems. Get over it.
Whatever Fundrise is paying…. Match it. I’m sure they’ll be happy not to read the ad :)
If your watching on desktop/android, get sponsorblock. It automatically skips annoying ad reads for most videos.
You can also just fast forward through them no?
Funny to see how concentrated the US market has become (for a country with such a huge diverse economy), coming from Canada which has been overconcentrated in a few sectors for years.
Excellent intro. 😂
Marry Barra!? She isn’t moving people’s sentiment on AI. WTF, it’s GM!
She runs a multi-billion dollar corporation that's cutting it's spending and GM is not alone (btw I'm lomg NVDA and AVGO). In 2026/27 GM can buy a later stage startup that focuses in self driving without dragging itself through the growing pains.
@@brians3504 GM 124 billion in debt, almost 200% to equity :( but I guess that is what bk is for, not reason to not go through it again

Scott, look at the camera when doing Fundrise commercials....looking down and to the right indicates truthlessness.....DOG! PJbigdogOlsen🎉🎉🎉
The market has crashed in the last 15 years. Down 30% in 2020 and down 20% in 2022. And there was recession in 2020. And the first two quarters of 2022 had negative gdp growth.
I like how Ed could totally be Scott's son they have a great dynamic, on a side note Scott mentioned Chamath in this episode therefore I think he should go on the All In Podcast, I'd love to see Scott there.
I thought they were father and son. I think they might also be the same heritage (Anglo + Jewish)...
Nah. Those jokers are below his line.
@SilkyG917 I don't think that anyone in their right mind would think that four hyper intelligent (mostly) billionaires are below Scott but im guessing you are a troll bot. Either way I like both Podcasts and wouldn't bash on either on of them though I may not always agree with what each says in all cases. Regardless you are entitled to your opinion if you are in fact a human.

Basic counting is not Galloway's strong suit when it comes to Nvidia. Completely wrong about the S&P500's performance and an 8 year old could say why.
Hey Scott, ditch the sponsor (it's not like you need the money) and bring back the dirty jokes!
E Trade being mad at Roaring Kitty is funny - how about banning BLOOMBERG while we're at it OR KRAMER who are both ACTIVELY INVOLVED!
Prof G forgot the Gabe plotkin GameStop naked shorts 130%.
Wasn't Covid a crash? Is that why we've 'missed' our 7 Yr cyclical crash?
