Shanghai is Stranger Than You Think

- Shanghai is a wonderful city, but much of it is strange to an American traveler. Today we visit some of Shanghai's most popular tourist attractions, and while we don't get an authentic slice of Shanghai per se, we do experience the crush of humanity that exists everywhere in a city that is ten times the size of Taipei. Enjoy!
Bless whoever is whooping in the park at 1:58. 🤷♀
there are not many policemen in China, most of the people with uniform you saw are security guards
Thanks for clarifying.
They are full time assistant police. Their pay is 20% of a policeman. Sounds like USA National guards get paid 20% of a police.
It looks like someone is on the mission to find the bad side of Shanghai. Life is too short, don’t waste your time on this one!!
Wow. This was very insightful. Im going to Shanghai in 5 days to make a cinematic video of Shanghai. Will use your tips :)
Awesome. And have a good time. My frustrations are foregrounded in this video -- future videos will show better times in this city -- but overall Shanghai is a fine place. Please share your video when it is finished. My best.
shanghai bund area might be a tad older than las vegas, maybe by a few months if I'm not mistaken
needless to say, scamming is illegal so that's why they stay clear of cameras. if anyone annoying keeps following you, just walk towards the police and they will magically disappear. as mentioned by others, most of the 'police' you saw at shopping areas are actually security guards. real police look distinctly different and since you seem to know some chinese the term for police translates to 'public safety' so it's a bit different than police scenes we see in the states. if you need help, ask any of them and they will be happy to assist. most of them stand around idle all day since there is virtually no crime anyways.
Thanks for clarifying. Your last point is important. Although I was approached by countless solicitors, I never felt threatened or in danger. Shanghai is incredibly safe compared to most big cities.
I think the bund was built around 1860s
@@user-oj1pm3tv5w 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'll help you sweep it all up fragile one
You captured the vibe of Shanghai well. (I was last there 10 years ago.)
Very different than Taiwan, eh?
Thanks for the validation. I had wonderful moments in Shanghai which are featured in future videos. However, I think this video also accurately represents the prevailing atmosphere of the city too. At least in the experience of this humble RUclipsr. 😅
@@BlandCompanion In Shanghai I was approached twice in ten minutes with the now famous Shanghai Teahouse Scam, in Beijing the Student Art Scam.
When people approach you on the street anywhere in the world, they want something. In Taiwan they mostly just want to say 'hello', which is nice.
what apps do i need for china for pay and subway and fast trainjs
For payment, WeChat Pay is everywhere and very convenient when buying anything -- especially train tickets. Just make sure you set it up beforehand. If you can read Chinese characters, I used 百度地图 for train and bus schedules which was recommended by the hotel owner. Otherwise, I am sure there are others also. My best.
nice video bro. which camera you use?
Thank you. Go Pro Hero12 Black. But I only shoot in 1080p. You may get even better results in 4K if you are comfortable with the file size. My best.
Good, another foreign rookie fall into those street food places and enjoyed crappy food when thinking oh so this is Shanghai food lmao😂😂 5:46
8:00 LMAO you got tourist trapped. maybe you should go somewhere random and see what you find...
Wow in China even the sun is bad. Well done.
A sad man with a Geo political attitude. Ignore!!
Very cynical, I like
ha ha somebody is looking upset seeing the progress of China
