Stanton Moore explaining some grooves from his dvd "Take It To The Streets - A Traditional Approach To New Orleans Drumming I DO NOT OWN THE COPYRIGHT TO THIS VIDEO.
i know im asking the wrong place but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid lost my login password. I love any assistance you can give me
@Javier Marcellus I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
It is true! A lot of the time you're doing different time signatures with EACH LIMB! but it is the most rewarding when you get it. Especially getting in the funk grooves like Stanton here! Haha
Nope it's the easiest if taught that way, hardest are piano, guitar and violin, cause I'm a drummer so I can tell, also I'm a pianist not professional yet and i play guitar as well, so i can tell
Can you say, "paradiddle" ? Thanks Stanton, this really opened my eyes to more fun than I could have imagined with a basic rudiment that I mastered 50 some years ago in Jr. High Band. Great lesson, Thanks Again !
Great beat but I sure would like to know what the bass drum is doing with this beat on top. It's a killer anyway and so are the champagne sparkle round badge Gretstch drums.
Wondering if his traditional approach dvd or modern approach dvd for new orleans is better to buy...if one couldnt get both....🤔🤔🤔 any thoughts on that?
me not having seen the DVD: can someone explain whats going on with the single tension 26" on the far left? has he got two double pedals set up to play that drum and his main kick??
@David Davies I presume he has one normal single pedal attached to the primary Gretsch then a double setup for the secondary marching bass drum so he doesn’t have to reach over. It must be a darn long shaft to reach the distance across!!
How do you get a 3:2 clave out of eighth notes in 4/4 time? It doesn't work unless you're playing sixteenth notes so the second beat of the "3" in the clave falls on the "and" after the 2. Don't even try to answer this if you're not a drummer!
Yup played in 16ths ONE e an A two, e AN a three e AN FOUR e an a If you don't play it in a strict even 16 note manner, it has a triplet feel. Let it lope. ;-)
Clave is typically written over two bars. So, as long as you're accenting the Clave rhythm (1 -- and of 2 -- 4 over the first bar and beats 2 and 3 of the second bar) in some way on the kit, you're creating the feel of the clave.
True if you count the snare pattern as 16th notes, but if you count it as if they were fast 8th notes, the clave accents become 8ths as well, extending the clave across two bars as said before.
Few years ago here in Asheville Stanton's band came thru. I enjoyed the show, fantastic. But afterwards, he was meeting "fans" and proceeded to literally grope a young woman. He was off to the side of things and maybe thought he was out of site. I was waiting to meet him. He was pulling her in close and his hands were all aggressive on her ass and it was just totally cringe & creepy! She pulled away. It was obvious what he was trying to do. Dude was even wearing his wedding ring. I don't listen to his stuff anymore.
venison music Not totally sure, I read Miles Teller did 40% of the recorded drumming but i doubt it. Stanton has more groove than the recorded drumming on "Whiplash", I doubt it would also be him. You never know though...
Saw him live, absolutely awesome
I feel like so much of the sounds is in the WAY he plays, not just the patterns themselves
These grooves are gonna bounce in my head all day. Simple sticking, but plenty of stank. Much thanks
There's so much stank its like he's playing right next to my balls. Stank for days yo
Jk I love this stuff but I didn't pass up a stanky balls foment cuz I'm a douche like that. Cheers and keep drumming

Playing drums must be one of the funnest things in the world! And, one of the hardest skills to learn.
You're right it is the best instrument to play and immensely fun! I may be bias as a drummer though haha.

Round Badge wet dreams for dayzz..
Now that's how a floor tom should sound ;P
Stanton is a beast!!!
Nicely recorded kit......well done to whoever.
So damn sick!!!!
Just read the Stanton Moore article on John Bonham. Very interesting

Can't wait to get a pandeiro and try some of these patterns. Thanks!
Sweet grooves
awesome upload man
Thanks Dude! Searched the net for some footage off this DVD, couldn't find any so I thought I'd upload a sneak peek.
very hip wow !
snare is perfect...tone
Chiken Little fuckin great

+Robert Delich Two dotted 8ths and an 8th note, hats on the offbeats.
thanx! I'll give this a try.
It sounds like Stanton is playing the 3 side of the clave on the bass drum as an ostinato. bass repeats on 1 ... andof2 ... 4 .
Wondering if his traditional approach dvd or modern approach dvd for new orleans is better to buy...if one couldnt get both....🤔🤔🤔 any thoughts on that?
mmm Tasty!
That was so nasty I need a towel. Stanton is unreal.
Mutha!!!!!
what kind of drum is that next to the hats?
Hi Isaac, it's called a 'Pandeiro'. Check them out, basically a tambourine with a skin.
And he tunes it really low.
me not having seen the DVD:

I noticed that and thought the same thing

Great dark sounding cymbals. What brand is he using ?
around the time this video was done, I think he was playing Bosphorus cymbals
. he's with Zildjian now.
Sounds so cool! What's the kick doing on this groove?
Roman Sochan the kick is doing the Bo Diddly. 1e a 2& 3& 4
There's also a 16th-note swing to this, no?
mmmmmmm.
Its a diddleparaparadiddle
DrumRoody Then again, it could be a heydiddle-diddle yoddle-doddle pair of fiddles
Inverted left paradiddle and regular right paradiddle you mean

It is easy now I can play like Stanton , maybe not :)

Isn't that a paradiddle?
Rients Dijkstra : diddle para para diddle 😉
Is this Whiplash's studio drummer?
venison music Not totally sure, I read Miles Teller did 40% of the recorded drumming but i doubt it. Stanton has more groove than the recorded drumming on "Whiplash", I doubt it would also be him. You never know though...
+venison music No it's Antonio Sanchez
L Cayla
Where did you read that? Antonio Sanchez did Birdman, but no Whiplash as far as I know.
venison music my bad :-) yes indeed
+L Cayla Where did you get that from?
Wrf? Oof.
this guy was way too good for COC. I think that's why in the arms of god sounded so weird to me. both are great on their own though.
Your marching band grooves are shuffle not funk.
