Thank you for the constant communication, and trust me when I tell you I'll be there to purchase day 1! Wouldn't it be wise to open up preorders as well? Better to get some cash going, rather than wait for release.

Glad to see you're still working on it. I tried the demo when it came out and I was one of those people whose excitement was damped a lot. Put it a way for several weeks and tried it again after a few more patches had been released. It was a lot more enjoyable. Still needs a lot of work like you said, but I'm glad you're still chugging through it! Hope it turns out the way you want it.

    You can do it ;D
Don't let unnecessary negative opinions bring you down.
And by the way, you're not the only one who puts in a lot of effort over a long period of time.
There are Dwarf Fortress and Kenshi as examples, just to name a few.
So my friend, don't let yourself get dragged down, you're doing well.
Because you are one of the developers who really thinks about it and says no, I don't like it that way, I have to change it.
I played the first game a lot and had a lot of fun.
    I like you Matt.
    Stay strong brother

Brother, i am more excited for your game than GTA 6. You nailed the first one so hard with different character mechanics, the world you're building now is much more expansive, i understand the stress to make it reactive to so much stuff, specially considering that if you don't it would be downgrade from the first one. These dev vlogs are good to keep us aware that you are taking it seriously because we all know the potential your gem has and don't want it mistreated even if its from the creator. Happy holidays, as long as you guarantee that by the end of 2025 we will be having the early access i think its fine.

Hey Matt! I was really hyped for the release in october this year, and I was super happy to have a Demo. The story how you pushed things out and got sick is terrible. Take care of yourself! To give you feedback: Yes, it was worth it to release the demo even if the game "was not ready yet". It showed that the game will be amazing - not dampening any enthusiasm on my side - and that its not finished yet. So take your take and make it great. WRESTLE THAT BEAR, C'MON! Appreciate you and your work.

Hey, Matt, I don't know if you read all of these, but Streets of Rogue is one of my favorite games ever, you are one of my favorite developers in the indie scene, and what you've done here is a great influence to me in my own journey as a solo indie dev. I love the level of emergent gameplay you're able to squeeze out of the systems you've designed, and I've always felt that SoR, as a sort of rogue-lite immersive sim, was kinda awe-inspiring to play considering how many little interactions there are. With SoR2 being so much bigger, I hope you take all the time you need to see your vision through.

No point in rushing something that isn't ready yet. It will only make everyone unhappy. Making software is hard, so take the time that is needed to reach a state where it is what you want to release.

  • @L34Z
    @L34Z 13 часов назад

I enjoyed the demo and I think most people understand that the role of it was to showcase what the game is intended to be and I think it did a great job at that. You've already built up plenty of good will from the community rightfully so for how you care about what you're doing. Most importantly; take care of yourself, man. It's better to take your time and indulge your passion at a pace that doesn't compromise your passion in the form of burnout. Spend plenty of time with your family, the computer, project, and fans, will be there when you're ready. Much love, and thanks for sharing your dream ❤

Fellow game dev here - people really don't understand that time estimation is the HARDEST part of making any software. It's not the algorithms or the architecture, it's figuring out if it's going to take an hour to implement a feature or two months. I know how you feel with those 24hr crunch nights, lol. Been there myself. I'll be waiting patiently for SOR2 - much respect for your hard work so far and I can see massive potential in the project even in this early state!

I'm looking forward to this game but I haven't paid any money or anything yet so they don't owe me anything. I'll buy it and play it when it is done. There are plenty of other games to play in the meantime.

I've read the roadmap, and the only thing i didn't like was the 10 saves slot for characters. This say a lot of how the new stuff seems pretty good and i really hope the game release in a good state, since the first was a solid 10 out of 10.

The roadmap has some pretty exciting features listed, even if it is subject to change and some may seem a bit too ambitious, though I have faith.
Some features that stuck out to me:
Being able to have great influence in a city once you become mayor (or later president) seems really cool. I know this won't be a city builder, but being able to shape the city by placing buildings or being able to pass laws or proclamations that have an effect on everything within the city seems like a neat idea. Like maybe you could take over a run-down city and then be able to make it prosperous, or maybe you can use your position as a mayor to help a certain faction, like legalize crime for the mafia, outlaw a certain faction hostile to the one you favor, or maybe do some crazy stuff like being able to legalize or outlaw slavery or cannibalism. I could see players get really attached to "their" cities. I also appreciate how the game doesn't have to end once you become president and there will be a "post-game".
Being able to create your own faction also seems like a really cool idea and if the existing factions serve as templates there could be a lot of variety, like starting your own cult, starting your own crime organization or becoming a private military force, etc.
Having many different professions/classes is also great, I hope that each gets lots of unique content to give them lots of flavor, like how in the demo as a cook you could work at a restaurant and such, or in this video we see a police arrest someone and bring them into a station to be processed. In SoR1 the classes which offered a distinct gameplay style or had unique mechanics were the most fun imo.
For vehicles, I do wonder if we will get military vehicles, such as a tank. Flying vehicles would be difficult to implement, but could be cool too (the Alien could get a UFO). Campers as a sleeping spot could even be expanded to be a mobile based (which is far more limited than a stationary of course), perhaps larger ships could do the same? Like if you are able to own a Yacht or something later on.
If players can get a bounty and be hunted by bounty hunters, that could be the basis for a bounty hunter class, though I suppose in practice it would be similar to the police.

I've been eagerly awaiting this game since it was talked about in hush tones in the SOR1 update steam posts. It's still one of my most anticipated games at the moment and I'm grateful for being able to test it out in the demo which was fun but understandably content-sparse. Please don't worry too much about what impatient Gamers(tm) have to say about you mostly solo developing a huge game like this and not having it come out tomorrow or whatever. Just look after your health and do what you can in a timescale that works for you.

I feel like my first impressions of SoR2 are best contrasted with my first impressions of Shadows of Doubt.
When I first played SoD, I was left with excitement, but also a kind of nagging concern. While the outward appearance and presentation was really enjoyable, the systems seemed a lot more shallow than I had initially anticipated. I think I expected a complex simulation that the player would participate in, but upon actually playing things, I got the distinct impression that the underlying mechanisms would be a lot more rigid and authored than I would have liked. I think my initial concerns were eventually proven correct - While I still like SoD, I don't think it lived up to my expectations. It's a lot more shallow a game than I would have liked.
The SoR2 demo had me feeling very differently. I won't lie - there was a degree of disappointment. Rough around the edges, low on content, kind of aimless. But unlike SoD, I can see the underlying work. I can see the infrastructure, and the components. I understand the hesitation, and I understand the early optimism. SoR2 very much feels like the kind of game that's going to come together in the final hour as everything starts falling into place and the systems start overflowing and mixing into each other. I'm guessing that you, as the developer, can see that a lot easier than most players can. But you're also probably not going to know when that final cascade is going to happen until it actually starts, so things might feel pensive for a while.
Keep faith. It'll come together in time.
    Good luck, and God speed.

Really appreciate this update. I enjoyed the Nextfest Demo but also get why some online gaming buddies didn't. I admittedly had much more fun with the demo when I decided to ignore the tutorial quests about building stuff and just loaded up on a bunch of weapons and stormed the Mayor's office. Likewise various side quests where different npc factions hit each other with stray fire and caused a blockwide brawl brought out some of the best of the first game. For me, there's clearly something special in the combo of the more persistent elements of the sequel combined with the emergent chaos of the first. I just think new players need to get to enjoy the latter sooner
