Lovely build Jamie, it is certainly a great wee kit from Airfix. I have one in the Royal Navy scheme - don't remember any fit issues, but I have the engine cowlings open.
Nice. Very well finished. I too have to join many of the comments regarding AEF in this a/c when members of the Air Training Corps. Ditto! We did ours at Shawbury in Shropshire. I recall seeing Chipmunks, Provost T4/5s and Gazelles in this most distinctive scheme. For gliding, we went a little down the road to Ternhill. Happy times.
Lovely model. I remember flying these out of Abingdon with Air Cadets back in mid 80’s. Tried aerobatics on my first flight and threw my guts up! From that day on instead of being called Sidwell (my surname) I was known as Yakwell. Happy days!
I flew in a Chipmunk twice in the A.T.C. The first time I was the first one up and we did aerobatics, the second time was while at camp at RAF Lyneham (We flew the Chipmunks from Hullavington if I remember correctly, it was 40 years ago!) I didn’t throw up in the Chippy but I filled a sick bag while up in a Hercules!
@@jimsmith2609 I flew in a Hercules from RAF Lyneham back in the day! Think I was sick about 5 times…..C/O even had to pull over on the M3 coming home for me to puke again! If memory serves Hercules was notorious for being a harsh ride and had the nickname Honkules. Happy days!
Three Airfix 1/48 Chipmunks in my stash. Your enthusiasm for this kit will help me get on and build all three that I have had the pleasure of in the real world. The RNHF one many, many years ago and two privately owned ones more recently. There's even an Xtradecal sheet for one of the privately owned examples in its present AEF scheme.
Very striking model and scheme. Now I know why modellers grab the kit with both hands whenever someone downsizes their stash and it’s in there. Can’t wait to see the rest of your collection.
Great looking Chipmunk Jamie! I currently have one on the bench and found putting the nose together a little difficult, but I think it look OK now.Did you find putting together the canopy a struggle?
Had the same problem with the canopy on mine. Dont remember any other issues, but then, memory isnt what it should be. Finished mine as one of the BBMF's - what else?
I too have one in my stash. What paint did you use and was the red an easy colour to replicate? You can tell its a favourite just by the way you handle it. Its strange how some builds give a great deal of satisfaction and others just don't
I will be starting a Chippie soon - I'll be doing it in the markings of the RAF Gatow Station Flight as used by BRIXMIS. Would help massively if you did one on the channel soon Jamie!
Beautifully finished model Jamie. 👌 No wonder you're obviously proud of it! Loving seeing your old builds 👍👊
Thanks mate, it popped up in my Facebook memories today as it happens!

I fancy doing the cowling open on my next one, using the Eduard set.

Thanks mate, I started my gliding at Weston-Super-Mare!

I lied on my trip, you were not allowed to do aeros on your first sortie!

My first flight in a RAF aircraft, a T10 apparently. No 12 AEF at RAF Turnhouse - a long long time ago.
Seem many of us had our first trip in one!
Spot on a great little mode. Be nice to have the 1/72 with the 1/48 and would be nice if Airfix added it as a 1/24
A 1:24 would be amazing, sadly it'll never happen
Good series!
Thanks mate, look out for the others coming soon!
Stunning model of a Chippie , brings back very fond memories of being a Air Cadet ,looking forward to the next 👍
Thanks mate, they're coming soon
This video brought me here as im just building the Airfix 1/48 Chipmonk. Given you a sub and ill be looking thru your other videos. Thanks.
Welcome aboard mate

It was a fiddle but I got there in the end

It was just the node on mine, clunky fit.

I used MRP, the red is the Soviet FOD covers Red.

It won't be soon I'm afraid, too many in the queue!
Hi Jamie - definitely good looking model 😂cheers Liam
Thanks mate
Wonderful. Airfix need to get their arses into gear with 1/48 Bulldog and JPs and and better T1 Hawk.
All would be fantastic
