@@Gunni4091 He's not meant to SEEM important to the plot. His influence as a character is actually what kickstarts Gladion's character development and helps Lillie open up more as a person, allowing them to finally grow and escape the past they suffered in from Lusamine. He may not be super plot important like N, but he inadvertently kickstarts major differences that help shape the ending of the game.
Hau: "So, Mr. Faba, do you have the key to the President's rooms?" Faba: "Indeed! I have it right here." Hau: "So... if you'd just stayed hidden, we would've been stuck here anyway, right?" Faba: ".........What?!" XDD
I think in Alola YOU'RE the sassy rival. I mean, you get the advantage Starter, you're always a step ahead of Hau, and he's just a character trying th be friendly with you -just like your character usually didn't want troubles with the rivals, but to keep their goals and do their best. Also, the "edgy" rival is obviously Gladion, having a "g2g strong" personality and being really mean with you at first, although this is explained in the game, and he develops as a better and more friendly trainer, just like Silver back in GSC.
I have to say, after being done with Moon for a while now, i'll admit... Hau was actually very refreshing to the series. I hope we see him grow up in the future and that he doesn't stop being happy. Y'know, Hau being that old man that guides you around to places and teaches you how to Pokemon would leave me extremely satisifed.
Hau also kinda feels like a better version of Ash Ketchum. Always happy, determined to become a great trainer, surprisingly good at what he does, signature Pokemon is a Pikachu.
Hau is the best rival... he is friendly, his battles are not too hard, but not too easy. He gives you good stuff sometimes. His theme sounds very happy and optimistic and he has a great personality.
“Same feelings of inadequacy?” “Same feelings of inadequacy!” “Same overshadowing by a famous/talented older relative?” “Same overshadowing by a famous/talented older relative!!”
I love the friendly rivals like Hau and Barry. Gladion is a milder version of Silver, less of a hurdle to get over with his Pokemon verses Silver's struggles. But, Lillie, Hau, and Gladion are 100x better written that X and Y's crew, although I like having a circle of friends. Honestly, it makes me super happy that Blue and Red are BFFs now, too.
Barry is the worst rival character in my opinion and I never felt anything for the x and y crew since they basically dragged you into their little circle (The player character just moved into town if i recall). Blue worked great back in the day I knew a couple of kids like him in elementary school and Silver was an improvement as far as character growth. That being said, Hau grew on me over the course of the game for the reasons you stated. Lillie, Hau, and Gladion worked great as a group.
i mean there's all that dialogue that was like oh yeah blue and red used to be buddies till blue shoved some kind of stick up his ass. it can be assumed some time between GSC and SM that red forcefully removed the ass stick. regardless i do like that theyre cool again as adults
What I like about him is that he is self-concious about how annoying his optimism is to some people and he keeps acting like that just to piss them off.
Thing is, he doesn't even have Electric Terrain, which is what Surge Surfer interacts with, so it's just a dead ability.... And he still raid-wipes you!
Hau and Gladion are both the main rivals They made it so both of them can have the type advantage against your starter Hau has the eeveelution that's strong against your starter while Gladion's Silvally's Memory will change depending on your starter so he has the type advantage
As a whole, I like Hau. Team-wise, not so much. If only he had a different Electric type instead of Raichu and a different Grass/Fire/Water instead of an Eeveelution.
I personally don't have a problem with Hau. Having a rival that's friendly, smiles a lot and has a personal stake in the player's storyline is nice. He does actually show a range of emotions, so it's not like he's just smiling all the time. He's kind of like the male version of Bianca. Gen 6's 'team of five' thing got really old, really fast. It was fun when everyone was in Santalune Forest together, but after that it was just irritating to just run into them. Calem/Serena turning into an emo tryhard after losing again and again was really cringey and eye-rolling.
A *what* ? Try using English words instead. How were they emo? They distance themselves from the rest of the group, stop being cordial and demand to battle you to show how strong they've gotten. Then once they lose they get bitter and run off. They gradually go from pleasant new friend to Gen 2's rival.
Tony M they don't get bitter, they are disappointed that they lost, and at the same time, happy you won. An emo person is someone who hates the world and "nobody understands me" and things like that. When does Serena/Caleb ever say or do anything that even implies that? They consistently mention that they are happy to have such great friends, and when talking about Team Flare, they speak of hope for the world. They are friendly and nice, yet competitive. Sounds like the complete opposite of emo if you ask me
I love how nearing the end he becomes frustrated with himself when you beat him, desperate to show his Pokémon what it's like to win, yet still manages to keep his positivity through it all.
Does anyone else really appreciate the different starting animation he has during his Title Defense battle? It really displays how he's developed and learned to be more serious.
why are you guys complaining about this beautiful kid??? why do you want your edgelord rivals back?? they always brought you down meanwhile hau is adorable and always makes you smile. what a ray of sunshine. much better than silver imo.
@@matthewwilliams8267 I like the newer games plenty more than the older ones, but even then I think the older games did the rivals better. They actually gave me a big sense of competition, while Hau was just more of a buddy. Not anything wrong with that, I just prefer to be pushed to be better.
@@nerdymidwesterner3662 I understand that, but i think they both have their place. Hau was just trying to be stronger than his grandfather. He was just tagging along. Hugh just wanted his sister's purlion back and make whoever took it FEEL HIS RAGE. Blue wanted to be better than you at every turn, no matter what. May/ Brendan had a crush on you, but still had to help their dad, and research came first. Wally is...a lot to unpack. Silver is just a kid trying to prove his father right. Each serves a narrative purpose that fits the story.
Savannah Swindle yeah I'm in my second run through and that's what he had against me as well. My team now is Mudsdale, Golisopod, Ribombee, Delibird, Turtonator, and Lurantis
In my opinion, I feel that Hau is a better rival than Blue. If you had a real Pokémon journey which would you rather have: A friend enjoys the trill of battle with both you and everyone else, or an asshole that just wants to make sure your Pokémon journey is as short lived as possible?
Everyone complaining that he sucks as a Rival, bro he doesn't take you seriously until the entrance to the Alolan League. I am pretty sure that if he wanted, he would of have taken your role as MC from the start, this kid is a marshmallow, he is sweet and kindhearted, we have Galdion for your edgy asshole rival, leave this kiddo alone.
Cris Ray Well at least Hau had a good personality and just cares about having fun and getting stronger he honestly doesn't care if he loses he just gets back up again also he is a person that will kill you if you don't have something to counter his raichu
In my opinion Hau allways was that one rival that could overtake you easily if he wanted to. I was really surprised he had an Eevee early in the game (5% ratio, OMG Hau you were searching a while!) who later counters your starter. Also became increasingly challenging starting from the 3rd island!
He actually starts to man up after the incident at Aether House on Ula'Ula. Either Plumeria busting into the place scared him straight, or the very act of getting his potential girlfriend stolen from him awoke a very serious realization in him.
Hau is one of my favorite Rival/Friend characters. All he wants is for everyone to be happy and having fun. He's got quite a bit of personality and grows a lot as a character and trainer. He's the guy that everyone wants as a friend. And I hope I can be that person to a lot of my friends.
Dude just swept my entire team with Raichu's Psychic. I love these games! May not be a traditional "rival" but goddamn if Hau isn't one of the best characters in the series.
I think Hau might be my favorite "rival" so far because he's just a friend - not someone trying to be better than you in general, but trying to be your equal.
Raphaël Khoury Yes!! I really want to see Hau again like when is more mature and stronger and wiser because during the final battle against Hau, he realised that Pokemon battles are supposed to be fun but you should give it your all and put your heart into it! Its just his first step to becoming an awesome Pokemon master and I wanna see him, Lillie and Gladion when they are older and much more powerful!
Nicholas Peh welp, USUM kinda did that! Hau was more focused, a she is your first challenger to the champion title Lillie became a trainer amd you caj battle with her during the RR epsiode and the Battle Tree And Gladion went to training to Kanto, but he can challenge you in Title defense every month i think!!!! 😍😍😍😍😉 But i ahree that i would like to see them when they grow up! Like Cheren and Bianca!!!! 😍😍😍😍😉
Raphaël Khoury USUM only began what might be a great future for these beloved characters! Hau might be a Kahuna or be like Ash, Travel region to region beating leagues and actually succeed in them! Lillie might explore the world and be an explorer/caretaker of Pokemon since she seems very interested in Mythology and History, and she has experience from taking care of Nebby! And Gladion is also exploring the world to find his destiny and who he is meant to be because he will eventually find out that there is more to his life than just protecting the ones he care for! All in all, The Alola Gang is awesome! And I hope Hau make an appearance in the anime or a series that depicts the story of the games like Pokemon Generations! 😁
Hau is just a chill dude he won't hurt you but if you dare steal his malasada he will rip out your soul and feed it to Mega Houndoom then he'll mutulate your body and feed the leftover chunks to his Ride Sharpedo then he'll send out your decapitated head and call out all of his pokemon and they'll all kick your head nonstop for a few hours.
I don't understand why people hate Hau. He's a great character later in the game as his character get's developed and he has actual goals he wants to achieve. Both Gladion and Hau are your rivals. Just because someone isn't pissed off at you doesn't mean they're a bad rival
They both are. Hau and Gladion are the S/M counterparts of respectively Bianca and Cheren from B/W and they easily remind me of them, even though it's the professor rather than Gladion who takes the starter that beats yours.
Once I acknowledged how many people held expectations for Hau (Gladeon & Guzma so far) I can totally see why he is the way he is, everyone is expecting him to be a champ or Kahuna cause his grand pops did. And in the Malie garden when he started to question himself, it made him my favorite Rival. He’s the most human of them too, he’s doing what he thinks he needs to do while trying to have fun because he doesn’t want to disappoint those around him. Which may be why he isn’t serious too. If he actually tried and messed up, he’d get repremanded way harder with the “You are supposed to be a Kahuna!” Talk. So why do that when you can act immature and benign to your future goals?
When Sun and Moon were first released back in 2016, I thought that Hau was gonna randomly get a Dragonair or Dragonite in the final battle with him. He just seemed like that kind of person.
I loved hau. He is so sweet and determined to surpass you and I just love him. Loved his character. I felt really bad every time a fought him because I swept his team every single time. He was a rival done correctly 👏😭.
@@heinzdoofenshmirtz8643 Honestly if he would have had something that sets up electric terrain and volt switch into Raichu he would have been pretty terrifying
2 of 3 starters have type advantage over Raichu in their final forms. Team Popplio, you can still get that king of tanks named Mudsdale and earthquake him to death.
Better than the "friend circle" in general. At least I wasn't afraid to encounter Hau, but he did prove to be a threat several times. Just when you think you can crush anything, this little bugger comes along as a solemn reminder that you might think you're strong, but even your rival that's hardly as competitive as you can perform just as well. At the end when he made it obvious that he likes Lillie I wasn't sure whether to go "Awwwwwww" or "Back off, my player avatar's already got dibs son."
I ship Lillie and the player. They're relationship had much more development in my personal opinion.
HeavyDonkeyKong Meanwhile while she's leaving, Hau's crying but your character still has that stupid grin on their face.
even the gen six protagonists could smile. and gen Six didn't have as good graphics I'm my humble opinion. but the graphics were still very good in my humble opinion.

CrystalBlazier I actually laughed at that, this game was actually pretty comedic :P

that part made me freaking roll XD
I think in Alola YOU'RE the sassy rival. I mean, you get the advantage Starter, you're always a step ahead of Hau, and he's just a character trying th be friendly with you -just like your character usually didn't want troubles with the rivals, but to keep their goals and do their best.
Also, the "edgy" rival is obviously Gladion, having a "g2g strong" personality and being really mean with you at first, although this is explained in the game, and he develops as a better and more friendly trainer, just like Silver back in GSC.
Wow, you could be right. I never thought of it that way.

There's a reason why the MC smiles ALL THE GODDAMN TIME.

I don't think Barry is friendly or mean, he's bubbly and in the middle, for me. If you want a bubblier more friendly rival, look to Bianca.
i mean there's all that dialogue that was like oh yeah blue and red used to be buddies till blue shoved some kind of stick up his ass. it can be assumed some time between GSC and SM that red forcefully removed the ass stick. regardless i do like that theyre cool again as adults

That thing died to my Rhibombee in moon and to Golisopod in ultra sun. Guess bug types really are amazing.
Hau and Gladion are both the main rivals
They made it so both of them can have the type advantage against your starter
Hau has the eeveelution that's strong against your starter while Gladion's Silvally's Memory will change depending on your starter so he has the type advantage
PikaPlayzHD I hope its possible to catch type null! I really want a silvally!

It exist 3 Type null : The Type null of Gladio, Gladio gives you one, and the last is in Sinnoh.
I have the water starter and Hau has flareon :/
Salwa AlSaeedi no, if you have the water starter he should have Leafeon
I love Hau as a character. And I love that he only has one emotion: HAPPY!
As a whole, I like Hau. Team-wise, not so much. If only he had a different Electric type instead of Raichu and a different Grass/Fire/Water instead of an Eeveelution.
Cinnamon roll
too good for this world, too pure
I personally don't have a problem with Hau. Having a rival that's friendly, smiles a lot and has a personal stake in the player's storyline is nice. He does actually show a range of emotions, so it's not like he's just smiling all the time. He's kind of like the male version of Bianca. Gen 6's 'team of five' thing got really old, really fast. It was fun when everyone was in Santalune Forest together, but after that it was just irritating to just run into them. Calem/Serena turning into an emo tryhard after losing again and again was really cringey and eye-rolling.
Tony M how were they emo? That's like calling Lusamine a loli kuudere
A *what* ? Try using English words instead. How were they emo? They distance themselves from the rest of the group, stop being cordial and demand to battle you to show how strong they've gotten. Then once they lose they get bitter and run off. They gradually go from pleasant new friend to Gen 2's rival.
Tony M look it up. A "loli kuudere" means they look like a tiny kid and are super quiet and shy
Sounds like the complete opposite of emo if you ask me
Tony M also there's no English word for "loli" or "kuudere". They're anime terms
I love how nearing the end he becomes frustrated with himself when you beat him, desperate to show his Pokémon what it's like to win, yet still manages to keep his positivity through it all.
All rise for the sweeping national anthem.

why are you guys complaining about this beautiful kid??? why do you want your edgelord rivals back?? they always brought you down meanwhile hau is adorable and always makes you smile. what a ray of sunshine. much better than silver imo.
I honestly think they have rose-colored glasses on. Whenever we got a "friendly" rival, we we're actually the jerks. We became the rivals of gen 1/2.
Matthew Williams silver also says “this is why I hate battling weak trainers, there’s no challenge in it” after you beat him

FC Mania: You don't really want to beat Hau because he's so nice to you though.

He kinda reminds me little of Frog from Chrono Trigger. Heh, Marshmellow
Ashram Astarcia true true btw Lillie is mine
Hau is one of my favorite Rival/Friend characters. All he wants is for everyone to be happy and having fun. He's got quite a bit of personality and grows a lot as a character and trainer. He's the guy that everyone wants as a friend. And I hope I can be that person to a lot of my friends.

I know right I been looking for this song for a while.
I love his theme and how it sounds like it has little cartoon sound affects. Definetly describes his laid back and cheerful personality.
I think Hau might be my favorite "rival" so far because he's just a friend - not someone trying to be better than you in general, but trying to be your equal.
Duuude for the next Mario Kart there should be DLC with a Melemele island track that has a racing-style version of this song

Hau was more focused, a she is your first challenger to the champion title
Lillie became a trainer amd you caj battle with her during the RR epsiode and the Battle Tree
And Gladion went to training to Kanto, but he can challenge you in Title defense every month i think!!!! 😍😍😍😍😉
But i ahree that i would like to see them when they grow up!

Eh, I'm happier with Gladion myself. I missed having a rival that was mad at you.
I don't understand why people hate Hau. He's a great character later in the game as his character get's developed and he has actual goals he wants to achieve. Both Gladion and Hau are your rivals. Just because someone isn't pissed off at you doesn't mean they're a bad rival
People want more douchebag rivals, basically. I'll never understand that, it's a character model I utterly loathe.

Every time I encountered Calem/Serena in my playthroughs of X/Y, I felt like I needed to bring cheese to go with their vintage whine.
Everytime I encountered them I felt the need to run away. lol
You've gotten far, but you've still got a long way to go. It's a feeling I both despise and cherish.
Everybody always shits on Hau for being "too friendly", but I would like to remind them that Gladion exists for a reason.
Hau is such a bro. Easily one of my favorite rivals
