The fact that Smogon has used this theme for over 10 years now says it all really. It starts off sort of friendly and familiar but then suddenly, wow. The X/Y electro rock kicks in with _that_ rhythm.
That's the problem with "rivals" in this Gen. They had a group of friends who weren't all that great. Serena / Calem being the only ones who really wanted to offer a challenge. The theme for them is a banger, but their fights weren't very memorable.
I actually like Shauna because she cares about you and her canon starter is chespin. She also heals your pokemon in santalune forest, she's very useful for grinding But I just like Shauna, not the other ones
This is literally my favorite rival theme. The XY OST is an underrated gem of the franchise. Needless to say the theme is more memorable than the rival themselves

I feel the same way. This game was my shit when I played it. So replaying it for like the fourth time now and listening to it's soundtrack gives me complete nostalgia and happiness. This game is very special to me. Was also the first game I've ever completed on my own.

False. The friends are the rivals you tried but failed to make along the way. Cuz they were not good at battling and cared more about friendship than challenge
people joke about the rivals in this game being completely unmemorable and, while i do agree one of the biggest memories i have with this game is being wrecked by shauna's goodra in her final battle lol

The rivals in this game were somewhat bland, had personalities the depth of cardboard, and pretty much zero development whatsoever. They did, however, have an awesome battle theme, and a wonderful encounter theme.
this theme rocks but the rivals themselves are too easy. they dont even deserve to be called rival if you can just beat them with no challenge. i prefer anime serena than game serena, anime tierno than game tierno, anime shauna then game shauna, and both anime and game trevor suck!
These “rivals” aren’t even your rivals, they’re your friends. What rival would watch fireworks with you, what rival would give you your starter Pokémon? What rival would celebrate with you as you become champion? Gamefreak didn’t intend for them to be your rivals

Smogon also uses *looks it up* “hugh’s” theme. Which seems to be the ONLY ONE THEY EVER PLAY WHEN I FIGHT. It now gives me trauma
