This was really interesting! I had a classmate in primary school who had severe autism. Everyone assumed he couldn't do anything but I would sit next to him and do the work step by step. I realised he knew so much, he was just so overwhelmed all the time, sometimes he would rip the paper and then apologise. He'd ask me to take away distractions so he could work better. I wasn't diagnosed at the time, but I was the only kid in the whole class who managed to help him when he got upset
Ezra has something called "Severe childhood apraxia of speech" and it makes it hard for him to move the mouth to verbalize any words out loud. This is why he cannot speak. Do I blame him? Absolutely NOT. Because Ezra was born like that. Ezra wants to communicate, he wants to speak. But he can't because of his autism. Again, I do not blame him. He's fine with being nonverbal. Thank God he only has autism, ADHD, SPD, OCD, and childhood apraxia of speech Because if he had more disabilities on top of severe autism like some other severely autistic adults kids he would possibly not be fine with being non-verbal. He would feel trapped. He would have self-injurous behaviors. It's a good thing that he's not doing any of that under any circumstances. Ezra is very intelligent than people think. It does not make him any less just because he has severe nonverbal autism. I also have autism but thankfully I'm not non-verbal because I was non-verbal until I was 5. I like to do 3D modeling and make elevators. I also do industrial automation solutions. 3d modeling electrical equipment, HVAC, VF drives, and other electrical equipment for buildings.
Thank you for your insight. Ezra was diagnosed with Apraxia of Speech when he was only 2 years old. So I was grateful we were able to know about that fairly early on.
My boy is same age as Ezra he has severe autism non verbal the older he gets the more things he wants to do. But lately he gets frustrated he becomes aggressive. We have difficulty calming him down
Hi, I'm not fluent in English, so I need to read the subtitles to understand you, but I'm enjoying watching the videos of your beautiful family. I only have a 5-year-old son who is moderately autistic. It is not easy. I cannot imagine you with so many children and two autistic kids. However, I am sure that your two autistic children will learn a lot from their neurotypical siblings and such loving and dedicated parents.❤️
This is soo impressive! We have 2 autistic kids. One had no speech delay, and one has a significant delay. He’s still nonverbal at close to 4, but is just starting to say a few words after 2 years in speech.
❤ wow! Ezra is doing amazing! You’re such a wonderful mom! Ezra reminds me of my 5 year old autistic non verbal boy! Ezra is very advanced! I hope my boy can do the spelling RPM by the time he’s 8! 🎉congrats EZRA!😊❤
Picture language is good, but it needs words under them so they can build more complex ideas later on. It's just nouns. Just post picture functions on the items used like the door. What symbol is used for doors? Then post a big sign that is used for the door on the door. He needs to build nouns up first before complex instructions can be added. Right now, it needs to be want or need then the noun.
Great progress! Ensuring the safety of a child during car travel is of utmost importance. It is strongly advised to utilize a 5-point harness system for young children, as it provides enhanced protection and secure restraint. Riding in a booster seat without proper strapping can pose significant risks. I recommend following the guidelines and recommendations provided by car seat manufacturers and consulting with certified child passenger safety technicians for expert guidance on installation and appropriate usage of child restraint systems.

Over time you will want to use the high chair less and less with Ezra. At some point he will no longer need it because he will outgrow it. If Ezra does end up needing a larger high chair for a while you will want to get one that is made of wood because wood tends to be more durable than plastic and in many instances can support more weight. It may also have more stability. A high chair made of wood might be able to work for him as long as he needs it as long as it is constructed correctly. I think I read online some time back that some people and one or two companies can make high chairs (for example) out of wood that can be built to any specifications needed in order to support any necessary size and weight. They can be difficult to find and quite expensive, though, from what I have read. Also because they need to be custom made getting one in the correct size and having it delivered can take weeks or even longer from what I have heard and read on the subject.

Jessica Duarte has a RUclips channel about her son who is on the autism spectrum (level two) and he is nonverbal but able to sing. The videos are in Portuguese and the automatic translation of the captions (once it has been activated) is not as precise as it could be. The only language I speak fluently is English. I speak some French and I read it better than I speak it. I learned some French from spending an entire academic year in France in 1999 to 2000 and I still remember some French. In any case if I think about the French that I do remember and I look at the Portuguese captions I sometimes feel like I can guess about what is being said in a few scenes in the videos. In one of the videos I recognized the melody of the song as being the “Wheels on the Bus” song, but in Portuguese. Also I was sort of able to get the gist of some of what was said in the flash card style descriptions/captions at the beginning of some of the videos. This is because French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese have some words (especially nouns) that are either identical or very similar. I can only get the gist, though, because the verbs, adjectives, and adverbs (for example) vary quite a bit more from one language to another. The bottom line of all of this is that even if you can’t get Ezra to talk right away he might be able to learn to sing. In addition to sign language and other communication methods it might help him to express his needs better. Even this might take a while (with Ezra being level three), but singing uses a different brain area than speech. For example, some people with Broca’s Aphasia are still able to sing. If Ezra can learn singing maybe he can eventually sing different songs to express different needs (e.g. hunger, thirst, etc.).
From what I have read this can be a useful feature for blindness, visual impairments, and some other conditions. Pete Gustin (The Blind Surfer) talks about the accessibility features that he uses on his iPhone. Pete Gustin talks about his blindness on his RUclips channel. Tommy Edison (who has been blind since birth) talks about the accessibility features that he uses on his iPhone on his RUclips channel. While Ezra is not blind he does have some difficulties with visual processing. It’s possible that some of the same accessibility features could help him. By the way, iPhone and iPad accessibility features are (at least for all practical purposes) virtually identical.
I am verbal but sometimes around people I don't know or I'm overwhelmed or something I become non verbal. And I also play geometry dash 🌈💖♾️ you guys are my favorite RUclipsrs (i have alot of favorite RUclipsrs lol and you are one of them 😊)
Im still on the waiting list to be assessed for Autism , my parents already took me in for a screening ( psycholigst note taking about autism ) with my psychologist in late February ( 4 months ago ) . My appointment should be sometime this month
This is not related to RPM but it is related to communication. When I was eating dinner this evening I remembered coming home from kindergarten one day and mentioning the class Guinea Pig named Patches. When I was asked if the Guinea Pig was big or small I said either “big small” or maybe “small big”. I didn’t know the word medium yet. If you notice Ezra putting words together like this on his tablet or Simon verbalizing phrases like this it could be an attempt to refer to an in-between concept that they don’t yet have a word for.
Yes! Sounds familiar. Ezra will do this with fruit bread sandwiches and especially anything that I have put different foods together. He wants all the different foods to be separate.
My son hates food combining. Example he likes pizza but deconstructed. The pepperoni, cheese, crust, and sauce all have to be separated on the plate. He's never eaten a burger or any sandwich. Same situation with pasta, I can't add more than one ingredient.
Hello again! I’m getting my son on the 15th. He’s 20 and non verbal. We have so little time to get ready. Can you tell me what tablet you are using for Ezra? Having a hard time finding the one I want. I’ve gotten the locks for the cabinets in the fridge as he is very very food driven. I’ve gotten alarms for the doors in case he tries to leave in the middle of the night. If you can think of anything, I’m not thinking of please feel free to reach out and let me know. Thank you so much for answering my comments and for making these videos it has been amazing learning how to best be there for my son.
At one of the restaurants that I ate at in the last few days hamburgers were listed on the sandwiches portion of the menu so arguably he’s right either way when he tapped on hamburger and then sandwich. The hamburger I had included bacon, Jalopeño cream cheese and had French Fries and ketchup on the side.
We started very young to try to teach him to use the device. But at first he would just throw it. So we started the PECs system with flash cards, having him point to the picture of what he wanted. He has learned how to use the iPad in the past year or so. And has only just recently used this ACC device regularly.
Regarding stem cell treatments mentioned in some of the comments. From what I can gather even on the off chance that they do work they would work by significantly (or even completely) rewiring the brain. Since it is the general consensus that our synaptic connections are what make us who we are there is every possibility that if the treatment changes his brain enough for him to not be autistic anymore that Ezra would no longer be Ezra.
Salmon and Ezra,is so lucky for school my kids have no help in school because he talk but he autism he is 14 year old with 30 kids in one classroom , lunch room very loud ,in our schools help no have no kids in public schools and my and school say you’re not autism.
Hello, you might have seen me in your other videos comments but I’m curious with something. How can I tell my non verbal autistic daughter is sick?. It’s really confusing because she can’t communicate to me what she wants or needs. Any tips will help thank you!.
That is a very good and important question. Honestly there is no easy answer. I would encourage you to observe if she reacts differently when she is sick or hurting, compared to when she is upset for other reasons. Some things that Ezra does, is he will cry in a different way. His wine will sound different when he is sick. He’ll usually not have as much energy, he will usually act in ways that are strange to him or unusual for him. For example, Ezra will sometimes go in circles really slowly when he’s sick. He usually goes in circles really fast when he feels healthy. Also when he is sick, he will go sit in his bed by himself during the day. He will not usually do that if he is healthy. What’s really difficult about Ezra is even when we think that he is sick most the time, it is just a guessing game to figure out what is wrong with him.
@@7AheadfamilyI’m currently level one, but I was level two when I was growing up. Sometimes even during the elementary school years (Grades one through five (ages seven through eleven)) I would regress a bit. For example, I would climb up on my mother’s lap and play with her hair. I started to outgrow that under normal circumstances by the end of kindergarten. Also, usually when I was sick I would only remember to take bathroom breaks (and choose to do so) if I was reminded to. By ages nine to eleven if I was sick and an accident of any kind occurred I would not be bothered by it at all (which was unusual for me by then). When I was sick even wet socks didn’t bother me (which was very unusual for me). That (along with being unusually teary-eyed and/or whiny (as my mother put it)) is how my mother usually knew that I was sick (in combination with decreased appetite).
I can be picky with foods too I would eat peas with my chicken cube potatoes that covered in sauce but I won’t have them if fish and chips as it dried I not keen I eat baked beans with chips sausage fish etc and I does mix up foods not separate as I don’t like too dried I remember one time last Christmas Day I was eating my Christmas dinner I was given a little bit of gravy but I did added little bit more my cousin said that enough but I did explained to him that due of my autism and sensory food texture that I like extra moisture taste is this common for people with autism?
I also picky with tomatoes 🍅 like as fresh tomatoes grilled cherries tomatoes tinned tomatoes but I love tomato ketchup tomato soup tomato pasta sauce I also only eat scrambled eggs but not fried boiled or egg with toast dip in yolk no no
@7-Ahead How is Ezra doing with his ADHD? Last time I was here you guys were talking about his ADHD meds. I have lost my job since the last time I messaged you guys here. I haven't found a job yet or attempted because I get distracted easily at any job and it's really hard but I am working on that issue.
I’m sorry about your job. That can be very difficult. Ezra’s ADHD has been something we’ve tried to help him with by giving him medication. But we’ve noticed that all the ADHD medication’s we tried to give him have not been good for him. So we took him off those meds and we are trying different medication to help him calm down. That seems to be working better. He is on Abilify right now. Good luck with your job search. I hope you can find some thing that is a good fit.
@@7Aheadfamily (My english isn’t great. Sorry for the gramatical mistakes.) This is surprised to me. Because, Oven isn’t the first choice for AAC. Generally, Ella or Josh the first. Because, Generally, their voices are more understandable for who don’t using or hear a voice like that. But, I think, others aren’t very bad. For example; Oven (His voice) isn’t perfect. But it is understandable. Specially; If the child between 4 and 7 years-old, Oven is the best choice for His age. Oven’s voice has pronunciation mistakes like a 5 or 6. As I said, These are only my opinions.
Does Ezra just touch a app and touch the Home Screen repeated unless his voice app on be honest do you think he really knows how use the app or do you guide him mostly as you can see
Where do we get a tablet like that? Seems our State has no interest in facilitating help like this… if they do it take forever to get anything. So very sad for my single Mom daughter.
Ezra started showing signs of Autism at a very young age g age. Even when he was only 3 months old. He didn’t like to be held and he wouldn’t make eye contact.
Here is a video where I tell Ezra’s story when we were first realizing that he may be Autistic. 5 Signs of Autism in Babies ruclips.net/video/_U1G1d0fWU8/видео.html
I also like to take my sandwiches apart sometimes. I have TMJ and it’s easier for me to eat sandwiches that way sometimes (especially if the sandwich is very thick, if the bread is toasted, or both). My sister and I are both on the autism spectrum (level one currently) and we both have TMJ. I wonder if there’s any correlation. I have not yet seen any research on this.
I sometimes wonder, if i have autism but just a bit. I am very sensitive for noise, smell and crowded places, also for light/sunlight or in rooms if it comes from the ceiling. I can't sleep with noise. I hate my food mixed together before eating, but i like mixing it on the fork in the mouth. I am very eager to organise things so that they are even and it feels uncomfortable to have itchy clothes or so. I also don't like when my food gets wet or when people wanna share their food from their lunchbox with me, because of the strange smell. I don't have a problem with dirt when i am in the garden, but i need to clean afterwards and wash my fingernails etc. Yeah... sometimes i am unsure why i am so sensitive and if it would be autism, but on the other hand i talked a lot with 2 years, am very social etc... :/
Thank you for sharing!🩷🩷 By today’s diagnostic criteria, Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by 3 specific challenges in social interaction, communication difficulties, and repetitive behaviors. An individual must have struggles with all three in order for them to be autistic. It is considered a spectrum disorder because it can manifest in a variety of ways and to varying degrees of severity. Hope this helps!💕💕💕
Really cool that he can tell you just what he needs and wants. I love the part where he just wants to play games lol. I use AAC myself but I’m also verbal so AAC helps me learn new words that I couldn’t say before.
Amazing catch! He did say boring right there! We didn't even notice. Thank you for pointing that out! Just one more proof that he is learning and probably knows and understands a lot more than we give him credit for.
RPM refers to the Rapid Prompting Method which is a technique used to aid communication for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other disabilities that affect communication. RPM encourages those who are struggling to communicate through spoken word to use techniques such as typing, pointing, and writing.❤️
It looks like someone still needs to invent a spill-proof sippy cup. Also eventually with some physical therapy Ezra might not need a sippy cup anymore.
@@7AheadfamilyFrom what I have read there is not much evidence yet for its effectiveness. Also I would be concerned about the health effects of it. For example, what percentage of patients (if any) end up with cancer or other serious complications? I would imagine that it has some side effects.
Does he know how to eat by himself ? Does he make a huge mess? Looks like hes too big for high chair hes getting big! Also why was he scratching himself so much?
He had a couple mosquito bites. That is why he was itching. A lot of times he doesn’t sit in his high chair. He usually needs help eating. He usually makes a big mess, but as of late he is able to eat cereal with a spoon. We show that in our latest morning routine video.
Why does mu child act strange 🤔. Hand flopping or repetitive motions. What animals are humans related to. What instructions are in our dna. So, there is a clear location of what information is being projected from the motions of the child. Now the dna experts need to locate where those are.
@@7AheadfamilyI know I have mentioned this before, but eating standing up from time to time will help him to get used to eating without sitting in his high chair.

Thank you for sharing with us💕

My autistic little brother eats the same way Ezra does, he takes apart food and eats it piece by piece - or just eats the parts he likes.
Yes! Sounds familiar. Ezra will do this with fruit bread sandwiches and especially anything that I have put different foods together. He wants all the different foods to be separate.
@@7Aheadfamily I can defintily understand wanting the different food groups to be seperate!
My son hates food combining. Example he likes pizza but deconstructed. The pepperoni, cheese, crust, and sauce all have to be separated on the plate.
He's never eaten a burger or any sandwich. Same situation with pasta, I can't add more than one ingredient.
😂❤️❤️
Yeah! That sounds a lot like Ezra . 😊
Great question! We use an iPad🩵🩵🩵
😂😂😂
That’s awesome! You’re right! Thanks for sharing. 😊 that hamburger and french fries sounds amazing. 😊
When did you guys start using AAC device? How long did it take Ezra to get the hang of it. His progress is great 👍
We started very young to try to teach him to use the device. But at first he would just throw it. So we started the PECs system with flash cards, having him point to the picture of what he wanted. He has learned how to use the iPad in the past year or so. And has only just recently used this ACC device regularly.
When Ezra uses his iPad does he often tend to double words (like when Simon used to say “car car” instead of car)?
Regarding stem cell treatments mentioned in some of the comments.
From what I can gather even on the off chance that they do work they would work by significantly (or even completely) rewiring the brain. Since it is the general consensus that our synaptic connections are what make us who we are there is every possibility that if the treatment changes his brain enough for him to not be autistic anymore that Ezra would no longer be Ezra.

That can be difficult. ❤️
Do you have an IEP set up?
Yes 20 time in one year
I see, yes, an IEP can really help, but sometimes even then it takes a lot of work to get the help you need.
I do have autism. One psychologist says that I don’t have it. It’s undiagnosed. My doctor said I do have autism. I don’t like crowd, smell, etc.
If my friend couldn’t find out what I want he will probably be what do you want if I push chocolate he will probably be like okay!

@@7Aheadfamily Thank you, I was a bit concerned because she was making these yelping noises instead of her normal noises. This really helps
Glad it helped! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!❤❤
Thank you so much for sharing!
I think that is common. I know of many people who don’t like food mixed together.
I also picky with tomatoes 🍅 like as fresh tomatoes grilled cherries tomatoes tinned tomatoes but I love tomato ketchup tomato soup tomato pasta sauce I also only eat scrambled eggs but not fried boiled or egg with toast dip in yolk no no
I agree it peas I won’t have but baked beans mixed together yes with chippies

I’m wondering: Which voice is His device’s voice? Is it Oven?
Yea you're right, I just checked!!!
@@7Aheadfamily (My english isn’t great. Sorry for the gramatical mistakes.)
This is surprised to me.
@@7Aheadfamily For me, we can say that I am a fan of ACAPELA GROUP VOICES, the company that created the voice of Oven.
Agreed! thanks for Sharing. :)
Does Ezra just touch a app and touch the Home Screen repeated unless his voice app on be honest do you think he really knows how use the app or do you guide him mostly as you can see

Interesting. Thank you so much for sharing.
Yeah, we should definitely do some research on that. 😊

Hey there Ezra

I wonder if Ezra has any friends. It might be hard for him to have friends because he can’t talk. I had autism and friends when I was Ezra’s age.
Ezra has some wonderful siblings who are his friends. He also has cousins who are his friends. And he has friends at his church group too.
Oh, wow. That's something I do : Put my hand palm up on the floor and gently press it with my foot.

He will say things like gu gu ga ga, and I'm a baby, and waaa waaa. He will also like to be held like a baby by his mom.
