- If you've watched my earlier milk steaming tutorials for the Breville Bambino Plus / Sage Bambino Plus (depending on what part of the world you're in as they use a different brand name here in the UK), or if you've watched tutorials from anyone else, and you're not happy with the consistency of your results - then watch this video.
I get great milk texture for latte art at times, but at other times I really mess it up. So I started doing some research and experimentation, and I've found what I think to be the perfect technique for perfect milk texture for latte art every time with the Bambino Plus.
By the way - a tip I'm giving to all fellow coffee botherers at the moment, if you're considering getting hold of this machine, schedule a zoom demo. They're free, and they're really helpful.
(UK Only)
Go here: breville.oie8.... (within working hours) and look for the "Zoom call available" - and then book yourself onto a 1 to 1 demo by finding an available date.

I was a barista and I've never used home espresso machines before and I was really struggling to get any good texture. Tried this and it finally worked. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for the inspirational video! Recently purchased the Bambino Plus, have been a bit lazy about manually steaming the milk, I will give it a try now that I have some new knowledge of what to do and what not to do.
Cheers :-). There's a knack to steaming, so be prepared for a bit of frustration, but it's worth sticking with it as you'll be able to get better quality milk texture manually after a while. Cheers.
Just what I was looking for. Thanks!
After a tough 2020 looking forward to more vids and bloopers in 2021,
Happy new year and stay safe 🇬🇧👍😎
You make it look easy with that texturing! ☕ Happy New Year wishes to you, too 🍾
Haha, thanks 😊, I've had so many instances recently where I've properly messed up the milk texture though, which lead me to try to find a technique which works every time, and I finally found it thankfully 😅
@@Coffee_Kev Well done; practice makes perfect! Thanks for sharing this technique! 😊
Good tips here. I looked forward to giving this a try on my new Bambino, but after about 20 seconds the jug was too hot to hold! I am using Vitasoy barista milk in the stock milk jug and as I am only making one latte, I have the milk filled to the min line. Any advice would be welcome, as I'd like to progress from using the pretty handy auto setting.
Thanks for this Kev. Suffering the same frustrations getting a good consistent texture for latte art. I have a Bambino and also a 3 hole tip from my last sage machine. Is there any difference between having a single or 3 hole tip? Thanks again for your videos
Andy
Great tip. Certainly improved milk froth for me to a great deal . Now matching a good cafe quality
Thank you for this video. I will give this a try. I received the new version Bambino for Xmas and I just can't get the right steaming with lots of foam from the 2% milk that I am using.
I used to be a barista and I only ever mastered a latte heart. I could create a great heart consistently every time. Now that I have my own Breville machine (regular, not plus), I can't seem to steam the milk properly. It gets to that wet paint consistency but then the end is all just a flop of foam. :( The foam is nice because there are no air bubbles but still. Not what I want. I guess I'll keep trying. *sad*
For me its the same. A big flop of foam at the end. Somebody can help?
@@JustusGer I tried pouring the milk in to another cup, then back in to the pitcher twice. That did help mix the foam evenly. @morgandrinkscoffee recommended this trick. I think the quality of the machine I used at work and the quality of the pitchers has a lot to do with it haha.
I have the same problem with the new Bambino machine.
Thank you for this 👏🏻👏🏻 it works perfectly! I have the bambino plus but tomorrow my new GCP arrives, I wonder if the same method can be used on this? I guess I will see 😊
Hi Lisbeth,
Here is the link to my video on steaming milk with the Gaggia Classic Pro:ruclips.net/video/bYW1P68ZyJA/видео.html
Hope it helps
Cheers
Kev
Can anyone explain the purging/frothing/button pressing process here? Usually I just put the wand in and press go but I take it that's wrong?
Do you lowering the pitcher as the volume keeps going up during the first 30 secs?
Thanks for another helpful video! I’m currently using this machine and usually I stretch the milk until the pitcher starts to feel warm, but I’m still inconsistent with my texturing so will try this technique. Do you notice how the pitcher feels after the 35 seconds in? Does it feel warm to touch at this point for you? Thanks.
Thanks Aaron, I used to do the same but got inconsistent results doing it that way. Yes the pitcher feels warmer at 35 seconds in, than I used to stop the stretching.
I do good, the. Sometimes I keep getting aggressive airation then I get froth instead of creamy milk
Thanks for sharing, I’m already getting better results than with the auto frother! What milk pitcher are you using?
Thanks Joe! This is the 17 ounce / 500ml Motta Europe jug. Cheers
@@Coffee_Kev are you putting 250ml in this pitcher? With the bambino stock pitcher, I’m really struggling to get the milk amount right. Either I’m overflowing or I can’t get the steam wand deep enough.
Great demonstration -- many thanks!! I'm on my second Bambino Plus (returned the first), and I think the steam wand pressure gets worse after about 6 months of moderate-heavy use (even with proper cleaning and descaling). Do you have this problem? I also noticed that your latte art fills the cup out a bit more in one of your Gaggia Classic Pro demonstrations; do you feel that you get better microfoam with the Gaggia Classic Pro or a Rancilio Silvia?
Just found your video "Sage Bambino Plus vs Gaggia Classic 2019 Pro", so I see there is more of a learning curve but the Gaggia has increased steam power. Do you feel the microfoam is better on the Gaggia and Rancilio than the Bambino (especially with practice)?
Hi Thomas, sorry for the delay. No I've not had that issue, is this both with manual and auto steaming or just auto?
Re milk steaming, the Gaggia classic pro and Bambino plus are both capable of producing great milk texture, the Bambino plus is a bit more forgiving and user friendly for beginners.
Cheers :-)
Kev
Same problem for me and went through 2 Bam pluses. Now have a Breville Dual Boiler and no problems.
Is this semi-skimmed milk?
A good pour. But try being a bit more aggressive with the first stream of milk from a higher altitude, this will create some turbulence in the espresso and help the milk and coffee mix, gives you a nice consistent texture and uniform color to create the art designs on top.
great video, thanks for sharing! What type of milk do you use?
Thanks Louise, we get milk from the local milkman, old-school 😀, from a fairly local dairy. I prefer full fat cows milk, but I am going to do a video trying all of the different milk alternatives. Cheers, Kev.
@@Coffee_Kev yeah I reckon fullfat is gonna be the easiest to work with. I guess, its worth the calories, as long as you don't drink several cups of milkies every day lol
@@Coffee_Kev have you done this video yet? Curious to know if the Plus works well on almond/oat milk before choosing this model over the base!
Every time I try to purge the wand before steaming, I wind up making a mess. The milk kinda splashes out of the jug. How do you put the jug in while the steam wand is still running?
Turn the steam on AFTER you put the tip into the milk. Purge>turn off steam>insert tip>turn on steam
What temp and froth settings are you at?
He's manually steaming so Temp and Froth settings do not come into play here.
Thanks for the video, did you have the temperature and the frother at a certain setting?
It doesn't matter when manual steaming as these have no effect.
@@GameDevSPS great cheers for reply
If you don’t mind me asking, why do you keep the steam wand in a jug of water?
Of course :-). I do this just so when I push the wand back down and it auto purges, it does it into to a jug and not into the tiny drip tray ;-). Thanks.
@@Coffee_Kev thanks! Loving the channel, btw. Binging ever since I got the Bambino Plus. You’ve really shortened my learning curve with my first espresso machine. Thanks so much for the great content!!
It would be good if you could re do the video with the jug included with the bambino plus.
It's exactly the same technique regardless of which jug you use. Cheers
Just out of interest what beans do you use for the latte art coffees? thanks.
If I want to focus on my pours before learning manual steaming with the Bambino Plus, which foam setting would you recommend for latte art?
Set the temp on high, and medium froth. Also a bigger jug rather than the one that comes with it helped heaps.
