When I started supporting Arsenal in 1971 I made it my business to find out about the greats of the past : Bastin, James, Drake, Chapman, Mercer, Whittaker, Lewis, Ronnie Rooke etc. Modern day supporters MUST do the same about the history of their respective clubs and it's so easy to do now but I have a fear not many do in this modern era of football supporters. Great documentary.
Thanks for posting this! I was also in The West Stand (Lower) when Ian Wright broke Cliff Bastin‘s record. I have been to Herbert Chapman‘s grave in Hendon and I lived next to Islington & St Pancras cemetery for 10 years and visited Tom Whittaker‘s grave too. I remember people of my Grandparents age that remembered Herbert Chapman and Cliff Bastin. I am interested to know if there is a memorial to him in Exeter where we can pay our respects?
There is a road named atter the legend, Cliff Bastin 👍 "Cliff Bastin Way" in the Middlemoor area of the city, about a mile east of where Cliff Bastin was from.
Thanks for letting us know! I have visited the graves of Herbert Chapman and Tom Whittaker both in North London. Is there a memorial/grave in Exeter of your Uncle where we can pay our respects? Thanks.
I live in Exeter, Devon. Been here for the past 30 years, or so. Exeter City Football Club - where Cliff Bastin started - have a stand named after him 👍
Absolutely great video. So full of information about one of our greatest heroes. I wish i had seen him play. Only heard about him from my uncles.Different class video. Looking forward to the next one
Slight factual error ... In April, 1929, Cliff Bastin, aged 17, did not "step through these doors," on the Avenell Road stand, as it was not built until about 5 years later ...

Very interesting. Hope to see more
Very interesting and amazing how some great 'legend' players can be forgotten in todays world of football. Can't wait for the next episode, brilliant.
