- Hallo again! I’m sorry for not posting last week, but today I have a video about the BEST parts of living with a host family. I wanted to share this for a number of reasons a few being that I really miss living with my host family, I know that some exchanges like in Uni give the option of living with a host family vs an apartment (you guys know which I prefer ;) and to encourage people to become host families as well! From helping with language skills to forming lifelong relationships, living with my host family in Bayern, Germany was really what made me exchange so special. I love my family so much, and I will forever be grateful.

I don't want to diminish your praise for your host family. But I feel like they got lucky to have you as a guest and exchange student as well. You're very open and open minded, polite, curious and eager to learn, dutiful and kind and very mature...sooo, I mean I guess I'm trying to say it goes 50/50. I think you were just a great match and that's wonderful :-)
That is probably a basic requirement. If you do not have these qualities, you will hardly choose an exchange program.
@@TomTomson81 You'd be surprised. CBYX and PPP are very high quality programs, they ensure certain standards. I would know because I applied myself when I was 15 and I know the drill. But there are loads of exchange programs out there and also many many horror stories. Montana is a very mature and reliable person, at least from what one can tell watching her videos. Every host family would be lucky to have her as a guest.

Wenn Du auch das/die Video(s) mit ihren Eltern gesehen hast weißt Du aber auch woher das kommt. Sicher ist es hauptsächlich ihr Charakter, aber Montana hat auch das, was man auf gut Deutsch - zumindest früher - als "gute Kinderstube" bezeichnet hat. Ich glaube da kannst Du doch wohl auch zustimmen, oder?
@@yt-viewerfromger320 Ja und? Charakterbildung und Erziehung hängt ja auch zusammen. Das eine schließt das andere doch überhaupt nicht aus?! Wieso muss heutzutage eigentlich jeder sein "aber" irgendwo drunter setzen? Vor allem um anderen lehrmeisterlich etwas zu erklären, das eh klar ist. Montana ist ja nicht als pflichtbewusste Person vom Himmel gefallen. Darum ging es mir aber überhaupt nicht in erster Linie.
@Gunther H.G. Geick Ja, bist ein ganz Schlauer. Mein "but" bezog sich aber nicht auf eine Aussage von Montana, sondern auf meinen eigenen ersten Satz. Ich widerspreche also niemandem, sondern wollte Montana ein Kompliment machen. Ich weiß nicht was das Problem von dir und den anderen ist hier unter einem nett gemeinten Kommentar herum zu abern und schlau zu meiern. Aber danke für deinen so super konstruktiven Hinweis. Ciao
Schön daß du solche positive Erfahrungen gemacht hast. Das ist nicht selbstverständlich, es gibt bestimmt auch andere Erfahrungen. Das müssen tolle Menschen sein, deine 2. Familie in Deutschland. Ich wünsche dir daß du sie bald wieder siehst! Auch du, Montana, bist ein sehr positiver Mensch. Das war es auch warum ich deinen Kanal abonniert habe. Auch ich möchte dir ein Dankeschön sagen! Deine Videos sind wirklich sehr gelungen und interessant. Mach einfach weiter so, und bleib einfach so wie du bist. Vor allem bleib gesund!

Great to see that you are doing well, but my main motivation to comment today I (as an older native German) want to thank your German host family for beeing such an amazing Ambassador.
Deutsche sind immer zu allen Ausländern freundlicher, als zu allen Deutschen, einschließlich der eigenen Verwandten. Wenn das ein Mädel aus dem "Osten" gewesen wäre, dann hätten sie sie, erstens, gar nicht erst haben wollen, und wenn sie sie aber, zweitens, zwangsweise hätten aufnehmen müssen, hätten sie sie verhungern lassen.
Vergessen Sie auch bitte nicht, daß das ein Bundestagsprogramm ist. Das heißt: die Gastfamilien sind alle systemkonform und handverlesen. Darüber, was Deutsche wirklich denken und welche echten Sorgen und Nöte sie plagen, wird die liebe Montana von ihren Gasteltern wenig erfahren haben.
Abgesehen von allem diesem stimme ich Ihnen aber vollkommen zu: Auch ich freue mich für die Montana, daß sie es so ausnahmsweise gut getroffen hat. Da hat wohl der liebe Gott seine Hand darüber gehalten.

I am glad you had a great host family. And I agree with you that most host families are great, no matter where you go. My host family (in the U.S.) actually did all these things too but unfortunately they also did a few things that you should just never do to anyone. So when you go live with a host family you'll most likely stay with great people but keep in mind that it is not always like that. I'm not trying to tell you you shouldnt stay with a host family in another country. You totally should!!!!! I'm just trying to raise awareness that not all of them are good. And if your stay is organised through an organisation you can usually also change host families if you have problems that cannot be solved.
My family hosted a German exchange student almost 10 years ago and now I'm a German teacher! :D Being a host family is awesome too!!!

Travelling to Bavaria and finding out that the Bavarian language is far away from your standard German lessons and textbooks might have been a shocking experience.

By the way: Do you have a favorite joke about Germany or the German language? My favorite's gotta be "No matter how kind you are, German children will always be kinder." Only bilingual people will understand that one. ;-P

Hi Montana! Danke (wieder mal) für dieses sehr schöne und ehrliche Video!
Deine Entschuldigung am Anfang für den Hintergrund war m.E. völlig überflüssig. Die Hauptsache in Deinen Videos ist doch schließlich der Vordergrund, und das bist Du mit Deinem immer hübscheren Gesicht und ein guter Ton. Beides hatte diesmal optimal gestimmt, wie eigentlich immer. Mir ist diesmal besonders positiv aufgefallen, wie Du die Farben Deines Tops mit denen Deines Lippenstiftes und Deines Nagellacks so schön abgestimmt hast. Denn ich glaube nicht daß dies nur Zufall war..!
Ein kleiner Tipp noch: Deine Kamera stellt immer wieder kurzzeitig den Fokus für Dein Gesicht unscharf, weil Du vor der Kamera so viel mit Deinen Händen gestikulierst. Du solltest evtl. Deine Kamera während der Aufnahme auf einen fixen Fokus einstellen, also den Autofokus ausschalten. Du sollst ja schließlich Deine Hände nicht festbinden müssen, das gehört schließlich zu Deinem lebhaften Charakter. Übrigens hoffe ich, daß Du es mir weiterhin nicht übel nimmst, wenn ich meine Kommentare fas nur in Deutsch schreibe. Aber ich finde das kann für Dich doch nurmehr eine gute Übung sein, außerdem könnte ich bei weitem nicht alles so gut in englisch ausdrücken. Und zusätzlich kann ich auch gern zugeben, daß ich manchmal einfach nur zu faul zum Übersetzen bin...
Wenn ich eine junge Frau mit YT-Kanal wäre, fände ich deinen Kommentar super creepy. Nur mal so am Rande.

In a lot of regions in Germany you have a warm lunch at school or at the working place, so it's not really necessary to prepare something at the evening after a long day of work.
Eating something easy and having a good time as a family is just fine, everyone needs some rest.

You were probably also lucky with your host family. If they’re doing it for the good experience, and there are siblings in your age range, then it’s likely going to be a great time.
I’ve heard of worse experiences, where host parents were just trying to make money out of it, and they served the cheapest possible food and didn’t care for their guests at all. But that was a long time ago, and not in Germany. 😊
If you're hosting an exchange student through an organisation, I dont think host families in Germany get money at all.

Noboby learning German can claim we Germans have too long words... 😉 This is my absolute favourite German vocabulary: Oberweserdampfschifffahrtskapitän. Oberweser=the upper part of Weser (a river in Northern Germany), Dampfschifffahrt=steering a steamboat, Kapitän=captain.
Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz is a legit german word. Just saying...

Why is English less less expressive than German??
In German we always use so damn many synonyms for 'formal words', like (to) talk= reden, we say other words all the time,unlike English :/
Money=Geld, but we say: Kohle, shut up= halts Maul, halt die Schnauze,..., and much more
English sounds so cool, but German is indeed much more expressive

4:10 "... what a normal German family would eat": Bread, cheese and cold cuts for dinner are considered quite normal. Indian food? Sure, it's there, some people like it, cook it themselves etc., but it's not standard fare in Germany.
Dear Montana, there are some things you should know.
Germans are always friendlier to all foreigners than to all Germans, oftentimes including their own relatives. Exceptions confirm the rule. Germans are always more concerned about what any foreigners might think or hold of them. Less so they would care about their own brother. If the guest student had been a girl from the "East", then, firstly, they would not have wanted her to host, yet if, secondly, they had to take her in by force, they would have starved her.
Please do not forget either that this is a Bundestag program. It is good for you, sure, but you must be aware of what that means: the host families are all system-compliant and hand-picked. Dear Montana, you will have learned little from your host parents about what average Germans really think and which real worries and needs plague them. They seem to have been wealthy and not too worried about anything except "Mülltrennung". That is not the case with most Germans though, really.
Apart from all this, I am also happy for you that your host parents have done so exceptionally well. I feel, God held his hand over you.
