    The curious case of Asafa Powell.
    Coming in 3rd to a Theater near you.
    Imagine being born with ALL the physical tools, fast twitch muscles , incredible strength and the Perfect height to dominant any human in the 100m.
    But for all of the physical advantages he possessed, he never had the Emotional or Mental strength to match.
    And you ask any pro athlete , in any sport, and they will tell you that success comes from 90% Emotional and mental strength.
    He could flat out RUN ... in the Heats. But don't bet on him when all the chips down, unfortunately he never could rise to the occasion.

      @@willstuart4504 He should have at least taken Gold in Athens 04, Helsinki 05 (notwithstanding his groin injury) and Osaka 07, Silver in Beijing 08 and Bronze in London 12 (again, sans injury) and Beijing 15 (given his early season form that year, he could have walked quicker than 9.92). On the 36.84 relay team, he could have pushed them to 36.5. Also if he took the 200m seriously, he could have picked up some other medals. And he should have ran more indoors at his peak and taken Greene's 60m WR.
      Of course, if he had the competitor's mindset and better physio, this would have all fallen into place.

    The reason why Powell choked was because he was used to leaving his opponents at least 2 meters behind, but once he felt the pressure of strong opponents catching up that is when stress got to him and caused him to break form

    It's obvious Asafa didn't recover fully from his warm up. Because less than 2 weeks after this he jog 9.74 to break the world record. He did the same thing in Athens Olympics final. He went into race tired from doing too much from his warm-up

    Everyone claiming Bolt was so great. He went from not winning anything in 2007 Worlds, to a World Record in the Olympics. Bolt just didn’t get caught. Gay, Powell, Blake, and Gatlin all got popped for drugs. But Bolt ran faster than everyone that got popped for drugs, riiiiiiiight.

    • @kgriff5537
      @kgriff5537 4 года назад +2

      So what's your point? Did you know that Bolt had multiple junior championships and records? None of those guys you mentioned had a junior career as decorated as him.

    • @cochise2552
      @cochise2552 4 года назад +1

      K Griff You really comparing “junior records”? Obviously his junior records didn’t make a difference if he was still losing to those same guys. Case in point he lost to Gay in the 200 final. He was gassed in the second part of the race. His junior records didn’t matter.

    • @kgriff5537
      @kgriff5537 4 года назад +1

      @@cochise2552 OK. I believe he was 21 when he lost to Gay in 2007. I believe Gay was 24 so Gay was in his prime, Bolt was not I'm his prime at that WC. He didn't just arrived from out of no where. He was known all over track and field because he was dominant as a junior.

    • @cochise2552
      @cochise2552 4 года назад +1

      K Griff Ok he was known before then. But he wasn’t even close to beating Gay in 07. But 08 just a year later, not only does he run faster but he runs faster than all the guys that were busted for drugs.... come on. Not to mention this was before there was consistent drug testing.

    • @cochise2552
      @cochise2552 4 года назад

      K Griff Let’s look at Blake at 19 running fast times. Since more testing in Jamaica he’s been pretty average. Just like some Bolts teammates were busted for drugs, Warren Weir, Nesta Carter, Blake, and Powell.

    Powel is a talented sprinter with a great start. His major weakness has always been not enough training for speed endurance, which is why he was getting dropped so often, and a lack of fighting heart. He should have been much better...it's almost a pity.

    Nice fella Asafa Powell, but he's got to be one of the most no-heart athletes of all time. Crumbles every big occasion and much worse he's just given up mid race multiple times when he thinks he's beaten or it's close. Incredibly bad example for the Jamaican kids, lucky Bolt and Blake came along.
