im not sure i would agree tha an immersive sim isnt/shouldnt be/cant be focused more on combat...
to me an immersive sim is more about having the game systems make you feel like you're more "in the world" though things like interactability, open ended ways of solving problems, etc.
alot of those systems could be used to avoid combat, sure, or to assist in combat, maybe break a vending machine, cans spill out, and if enemies walk over it they might slip, idk.
one example is HL2, while not quite an immersive sim on same level as other titles, you have things like the physics system and the gravity gun, allowing you to use this integral system for combat.

I liked The Cycle, and what I played was alone, i'd love it if it was with a few friends, but them resetting your premium currency generators every Season? Any future possibility of playing was gone at that point

These looter shooter games with “numbers going up with loot rarity firearms” are still technically rpgs. A sub-genre called “Action RPG”. The origins of the numbers game coupled with loot rarity definitely dates back to the game Diablo, even though it’s a melee based game, it probably created that system back in the day and even improves it in later entries. This sub genre focuses only building your character to be stronger of what type of build your character is great at and ditches the storytelling potential of choices and consequences with a Game Master.
A division content creator called “MutantCowboy” even called The Division games as a “diablo shooter”. I think this topic involves something bigger in the gaming genre that is “What Is a RPG”. A video by Adam Millard called “RPGs Were Never About Roleplaying” covers this topic head on and straightforward.
Even though this is just a silly vid about AAA trends slapping levels, hit points and loot rarity to just call it a rpg, I don’t mind having a conversation like this since I actually have 2900+ hours on div 2. 🫠
