- a short and shottily edited teaser for my upcoming 45 minute long doccumentary about the little known history behind The roller coaster capital of the world. opened in the late 1800's cedar point is much much more then coasters. this documentary will include things like The Cedar Point Chaussee, The Cedar Point Auto Road, The Richard Kinzel Causeway, Mary and the haunting or Room 169, Hotel Breakers, The Cedars, The Cedar Point Grand Ballroom, the Grand Pavillion, George Becklings Estate, Daniel Muller's Armored Horse
The drive down the causeway is beautiful. That's the way we used to go when I was a kid.
Instructional Criticism: The music during the video was loud
You mentioned that anyone is allowed in the ballroom as long as the door is open which is not true (I don't want people to get in trouble needlessly). Also explains why you mentioned "There's a security guard out there so we may end up hiding".
PLEASE don't get me wrong... I LOVE the history and worked at CP for years. But I don't want to see people in trouble because a video on youtube told them they were welcome to go to restricted areas of the park (There is a reason for the "No admittance" signs you saw. The door was propped open because meetings for Blue-Tags are held in private rooms up there, as well as paycheck retrievals, and other activities for employees.
are those still there?
Glad to see that someone corrected the pronunciation of Chaussee. I would also like to point out that Cedar Point is NOT an island. It is a peninsula. The entrance shown is not the original entrance to the Chaussee. It originally was where Sheldon’s Marsh is. The road from Sheldon’s Marsh to the Chaussee washed away over the years and the current entrance was built. The Causeway is the road built in the late 50’s which is currently used as the main roadway to Cedar Point.
Clarification: The red building was Cedars, the rotunda with the white paint and wood is in Hotel Breakers.
I worked at Cedar Point for a few years and will never forget those good times. I have to admit though (If I heard you correctly) at 9:30 I believe you mentioned ripping off a piece of the wallpaper for "History's sake". Since this is on youtube for all to see, the rest of the world will be lucky if anyone is allowed into that beautiful ballroom. People need to learn to Cherish the history of places like that rather than rip pieces of it off. It REALLY hurt to hear you do something that would easily get those doors locked to the public. If I didn't hear you correctly PLEASE accept my sincere apologies. However if I did hear you correctly, you mentioned that you love the history of Cedar Point but do not show it in your vandalism. (And I hope people don't start saying "It was only a little piece" or anything like that because that original wallpaper can NEVER be replaced!
Never walk into a historic building like that and cause destruction like stealing wall paper. That was extremely distasteful and why the public is not allowed in there.
I used to clean 169 in the 90s, then, that hall was made into employee rooms. I lived right across the hall from that room in the 90s.
And?
@@glazednconfused4642 The only thing weird that happened was I plugged in the vaccum, and then went to vaccum the floor, but it didn't turn on. Looked back, and the plug was laying on the floor. I didn't think anything of it at the time, and figured it fell out of the socket
Strange. Thank you for sharing. I stayed there before the hotel renovated and snuck all the way to the top of the rotunda. Very creepy feeling up there.
I'm pretty sure the first building you explored was the coliseum not the grand pavilion. the coliseum was built around 1916 I believe. The grand pavillion is the building with the twin facades that have the white pillars in front, that building was built in 1888.
Ok I realize that this was made 7yrs ago BUT I just can't help myself. I have to say this: when you're playing the music and talking at the same time, the music is so loud that I cannot make out what you're saying. Do you know how aggravating that is?
They finally went and demolished the Cedars Hotel, which is sad.
I know that kills me! One of the oldest structures up there! I wish I could have snuck in before they tore it down
Is the ballroom still there
Its pronounced locally as "Shawsay"
Dude - How can someone doing a historical documentary not know the correct pronunciation?
@@Youngstown529 totally wasnt trying to grief ya bud. Love your videos man
Life is golden. I am merely an observer here. Happy Days to all CP fans!
Hahahhaha I made this awhile ago, after docking at the marina for the past 6 years and living there full time in the summer I've got that nailed by now lol my bad
Great video but from a local, “chausee” is French and is pronounced “shaw-say” lol
The video is way too shaky
I know. It came out so bad. I plan on remaking it this season
