When I took my long haired calico outside to see snow for the first time on a slightly warm sunny day after fresh powder fell, she wrapped her paws around my neck and hugged me for dear life and refused to let me set her on the ground. I took her back inside and she glared at the front door like it personally offended her and all of her ancestors simultaneously. She never came near the door again no matter the season or the weather. Outside was the devil and she was perfectly content to stay indoors forever. She was so spoiled and that moment was so funny, I wish I had someone there recording it for me.
That is a genuinely horrible story. You decreased your poor cat's quality of life by being cruel for laughs, associating the outdoors with pain for the cat. Despicable. I hope karma is a b**** to you. Meanwhile, good parents harness and leash train their cats and take them out doors in the nice weather for walks and explorations, enriching their lives.
LMAO that's adorable! They have such funny ways at times. We have a cowkitty who likes to go out, but only so far just to roll in the dust on the patio. He guards the other cats from going out and will attack if they try. The "Out" apparently belongs to him and he's very possessive of his "Out." 🤣
@@Lazarus1095 When my kitty was a kitten with her previous owners, (we got her at 6 months old cause they didn't want her anymore) they had taken her long before she was ready to be separated from her mother, and had formed a bond with their adult male tabby. The first time she went outside, she had followed him out but a real bad storm rolled in and she got locked outside in the crappy weather with thunder and high wind, and it left a noticable imprint in her. She was terrified of the outside after that. It could be a warm summer day and I could leave the sliding door wide open for the enclosed front porch. She would sit by the door and look outside but refuse to cross the doorframe. She loved sitting by the windows and having them open to get the fresh breeze, but if you opened the door wide and stepped outside, she wouldn't follow you out. She'd actually start crying for me to come back inside cause outside is scary and she was worried about me being outside. Even if it was just me standing in the garage in eye view of her. She wouldn't even go out into the garage. Inside was safe and that's all that mattered to her. She loved water and baths, so it wasn't the fact being cold or wet was an issue. She just didn't like the concept of being outside and what that entailed.
I had a cat that did the very same thing. He would cry and cry to go out but as soon as I opened the door and he felt the cold air he would turn right back around run for the heater.
It happens often enough that I get a bit of a kick out of saying "I told you so" when they blast back into the jouse. I don't have any fun when my boy goes out and looks around, but comes crying at the door the minute I close it and turn around.
I took one of my more adventurous cats outside a few years ago. He normally doesn't let the weather bother him. He didn't want to go back inside, he just wanted me to hold him the whole time because his paws were cold.
My grandmother used to have a cat that would beg to go outside, and whenever it was snowing or raining she had to show him that the weather was the same at both the front door and the back door. He would whine to go out the front door until she opened it for him and showed him it was cold and/or wet, and then he would immediately run to the back door and whine at that one until she showed him it was the same situation.
My cat used to check the front, then the back, then the front. I just got a bathmat to put out for him to sit on, and he was fine. RIP Max you were the best cat ive ever had! ❤❤
Or maybe they think - "silly me, I must have exaggerated the cold in my head the last time. It couldn't have been that bad..." And they go out again and the same thing happens again 😁💕
My cat loves going on her daily walk...woke me up from my nap to make sure we got outside before dark. Went outside for all of two minutes...nope....back inside. And it was actually 60 degrees out today in PA. My cat's gettin' soft.
@@betsybarnicle8016 I currently have 3. They're all seniors, at 18, 15, and 12. The 12 year old refuses to go outside at all, the typical scaredy cat! The other two usually love going outside, especially the 15 year old.
@tricitymorte1 My 4 year old used to love 30-50 min walks outside, and gradually she's decided she only wants 5-10 minutes. Her new habit is to have me carry her onto the front porch every morning to see the weather and birds, about 5 minutes, then she turns her head to indicate she wants back in. My grandmother had a cat that loved the snow. Even when it was a foot deep, you'd see him bounding in arching leaps through the snow. It definitely wasn't hereditary, as he was born at our home in the San Francisco Bay Area, and went to live with my grandmother when he and his sister were 8 weeks old. His sister didn't like the snow.
Gotta give the Canadian cat a few extra stars! It stayed out the longest! It’s semi-immune to the cold … it’s in our blood, even in our pets. My cat hasn’t been outside since I adopted her 5 years ago. Snow is the white stuff she sees out the window! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
I know a cat named Button in my countryside who absolutely adores snow. I have long braids nearly down to my knees and I gave her one of my braids to play with in the snow, and we both had the most unforgettable snow joy ever.
I actually had a cat once who liked snow. She'd play and jump around in it, and would take several attempts and treats to get her back inside the house once I had had enough of the cold myself.

I would do that to my cat when it was raining. She would beg and beg to go outside so I’d open the door and tell her to go.
