I had a friend who wore blue mascara for the entirety of our junior high days. Years later in college my brain would just filter it in on her face long after she stopped going by that style. It became her trademark for me even though she moved on with the times.
Isn’t that second tip just tinted moisturizer? Also I guess we’re supposed to hate that look now because women don’t want to look "dewy" * cough *greasy* cough* anymore. I’m guessing the conversation for the first tip went something like "well eye drops have anti redness stuff in it. Let’s just tell these teen girls to put that on their faces." That’s not how that works! I’m going to bet right now there’s also a tip for putting toothpaste on zits as well. My mom told me one time that skin care tip came out when she was a teen in the 70s so I guess it came back in the early 00s.
The pimple trick does work with certain pimples. The active ingredient in visene constricts blood vessels just beneath the skin surface, so if you have a very angry red zit it can help immediately reduce swelling and redness. Also, dewiness is still way in, especially compared to the early 00s when matte was king.
My thought about the first tip (eye drops) was you probably need to use the ones that specifically claim to be redness reducing, because they have a vasoconstrictor chemical in them that shrinks the blood vessels. The basic "moisturizing" saline eye drops don't have that ingredient.
I remember an article said “zits don’t know they’re not eyeballs so the clear eyes will take out the red” and I never ever had it work for me. I always wondered if I was just doing it wrong. Thank God for hydrocoloid stickers 😂
As soon as you said, "Blue Mascara", I had a flashback to an episode of Taina. It was the one where 3LW was doing a guest spot as a singing group in the school and Taina ended becoming a part of them. She finds out that they're not what they seem and leaves the group. I used to do that mascara technique of putting on dark mascara, then a lighter color on the tips. It worked pretty good when I had colored contacts in.
Power peepers 😂 there was always so much cringy alliteration and rhyming in the writing of those articles. I remember one magazine had an article with fan mail addresses for celebrities and I swear to god they just had to do a little "bit" for each one. It literally said "write miley cyrus some smiley papyrus! Well thats like ancient Egyptian paper so maybe not" girl wtf are you saying 😂😂
Gotta make sure it's an OIL FREE LOTION so you don't break out and your skin isn't shiny 😂 that's how you know it's a beauty tip from the early 00s.

Cant wait for more of this. Itll be interesting to se how early 2000 tips work with modern products
The moisturizer/foundation tip, and the colored mascara tip, are tricks makeup people still use today. But probly modified version
Omg I say “it’s gonna be a no from me dawg” all the time 😂
YM was my faaaave! I subscribed around 2000-2003
Love this, always thought it was just me it didn’t work for. 😆
I loved getting my YM’s, Nylons Teen vogues and of course Seventeens. I especially loved the back to school and summer editions.

I found a box of mags from 98-02 while cleaning out the garage a couple summers ago!
How'd she get those old zines?

Visine is a vasoconstrictor so IDK
I tried mixing foundation and moisturizer soo many times and it never worked. When I was finally introduced to BB cream, it rocked my world!
