Thanks I’ve been a professional photographer since I was 13 years old . My mother was a professional for most her life , that’s until the grand children came around and she would take pictures but only snap shots . I have been using all kinds of cameras. Mostly medium format , but I switched to digital 35mm in 2011 and I have the still photography down but I haven’t had time to learn how my Nikon D 7200 does video. I read the book when I bought the camera but I only use the Nikon when I travel. It’s a inexpensive camera so I don’t have any worries about losing it or having someone steal it from me when I’m in another country ! But lately I’ve been wanting to take videos on my trips all over the world. I’ve been using a canon ERP something like that mirror less camera because it’s easy to switch to video in one second. But listening to you explain how to do that with my Nikon will make my next trip so much easier, because I like the duel memory card slots the Nikon has to offer . I subscribe to your channel for the sole purpose that you made it easy to understand now I know how to do it, so I’ll be watching and learning more from you about digital cameras. nice video, I[m all set up just as you indicated. But my record button doesn't record. I hit it, but no "rec" in the upper left. What do you suggest?
He completely skipped focus issues - the most problematic aspect of video recording on DSLRs. Unless you are filming a stationary subject, AF tends to hunt continuously ruining the video and the audio. Manual focus is tough on moving subject using LiveView. I was looking for some solutions here as well as suggested Shutter/Aperture settings for various frame rates.
Ron Manera .... I have to agree on that, the auto focus is pathetic. I spoke to a Nikon technician in Brisbane and he told me this camera will not autofocus in video mode. After ruining several video shoots I have returned to using my older Canon camcorder, the image quality is not as good but at least it gives good focus and nowhere near as heavy in your hands as the D7200 ... As a camcorder the D7200 is a great SLR!
yea ive been trying to shoot video of my horse with my nickon and i tried the continuous autofocus but it was constantly looking to focus on something and i had to switch to manual, it worked alright but it was a lot of effort and concentration
@@dannyonsaturn5458 .. and ofc, with manual focus, stabilization is totally out. Impossible to do without shaking.. :(
Try Spot focusing maybe that will work for you . I use Matrix focusing for still photos and it has something else . I can’t remember because it’s 4:30am . I know it has 3 focusing modes maybe more . But on other cameras Spot focusing works well with video . Check it out . I have 12 digital cameras 2 of each for back up and I know they all have different settings you can use for whatever you are working on .
Thanks for a great video. I have the same camera and I want to take videos of myself standing and introducing my products right in front of the camera for RUclips. I wonder what are the best or safest settings when it comes to the focus mode and aperture? Should I go with manual or auto mode, with AF S or AF A focus setting? And what about the focus area selection? Single point, D9, 21, 51, or auto? Also I have 18-55 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm lenses. Thank you again. Your videos are wonderful! 🙏🏻❤️

hey you know that switch where you select video or audio in this video doesnt he go to photo mode rather than video??? Like look he has the switch on the photo mode not video right??
have you guys tried loading your custom picture control? It give movie look to my d7200 right off the camera. I don;t color grade anymore. I'm so awesome.
Great video, can you pls help me about internal microphone in d7200. When I want recording in all modes, decibel meter does not recognise any sound, so it stays on 0 level. I tried in settings for microphone auto and manual with all values, but still nothing. External microphone also has the same prb. Any solution? Regards

In the video, you've got the ring switch around the LV (live View) button switched to the camera mode, not the video mode. Don't you want it switched to video??? My RECORD button would only work properly when this was switched to video mode.

if you haven't already bought the 18-140 lens , then I HIGHLY recommend the lens .it is a truly versatile lens that is highly underrated by many - so long as you shoot 2 stops in ( at the sweet spot) , you should be fine
can I shoot video at a stretch more than 30 mints for example for one hour at a stretch with a DSLR?

It is not the SD card, you need to change the crop to shoot at 50 and 60. Great video, though :)

I am not sure. I know that on some cameras you can not change the aperture. The problem with changing aperture while shooting is that it often is very noticeable when you do it. There is a stepping of exposure. It is better to have a manual aperture lens that you can make finer movements to when adjusting aperture.
you cant change the aperture while your in live screen also ;)
There is an autofocus feature on Nikon DSLRs. The switch on the body of the camera for autofocus or manual focus is also a button. When you push that button and have live view on, you will be presented with continuous autofocus options. There are videos highlighting the usage of this.

just go with adobe premiere pro, great features, and great if you use other software from adobe.. like after effects

Man, thank you for this video, for you really answered my question at 1:34. For I was wondering why I wasn't able to shoot at 60 frame. My SD card isn't the greatest one.
Go read the manual (available on the D7200 page of the Nikon website, under support/downloads. This is not about 'how good your SD card is.' To get access to the 1080P 50 & 60 frames per second, you need to switch your IMAGE AREA in the Movie Shooting Menu to "1.3x", instead of "DX".

@@LoberoxD Turn you camera off and back on, put the switch on live view for movies, then press red button on top.....you can reset movie menu as a possible fix too.

You don't have full control in video mode. Aperture wheel does not work in live view video mode. If you must change aperature you must turn of live view or switch to photo mode and than change aperature.
But still this is a great camera

Theres more to do than just these basic steps.
shorter video would be : most of you, forget about shooting video with d7200 if you're rather amateur and you'd badly miss autofocus, d7200 is too dumb for it, get lumix :-) it's great for still only, but man, it's excellent for stills for it's price...
