i love sam, open, honest, funny, total goof......seems like he's be a fun guy to hang out with, thanks for sharing sam, you're gonna be a great dad, cheers!
Thanks for the update!!! Keep us posted on what ya do this off season, love following your journey. Stoked to see you sharing your love of the outdoors with Leo and to see Lara getting her training on 🤙 following from the north east, searching for my first 70.3 age group podium this coming spring.
Super pleased for you man, really glad to see you doing well post-baby. Michael Weiss - Doper: In November 2011, Weiss was given a two-year ban for a blood doping infringement in 2005 while competing in mountain biking. An independent commission of Austria's anti-doping agency (Nationale Anti-Doping Agentur Austria, NADA), said that it had found Weiss to be guilty of having his blood taken for enrichment at a blood lab in Vienna in 2005. NADA initially cleared Weiss in September 2010, but that decision was reversed a year later and subsequently issued the ban from competition.
Congrats Sam! It was nice meeting you in MD. You've been an inspiration leading up to this race (my first IM). Looking forward to following you throughout next season and watching you crush it! Btw: Now that I have actually done an IM, I have an even greater appreciation for how fast you are. Truly remarkable.
Thanks for taking the time to grab a picture with me Friday! It was my first full distance and obviously I was disappointed in the swim being shortened. Unfortunately I ran into a flat on the bike and had to wait over an hour and half for a new tire. Rethinking tubular tires. I managed to regroup and finish strong.
Thanks for the honest insight about how you thought you could break 2:30 marathon. It helps age groupers like me to feel much better about my mistakes 😂👍
Great year and I can see the maturity coming thru with how you assess your performance in the context of your competitors and the current state of the sport. Congrats on becoming a dad and looking forward to seeing you do great things in 2024 and beyond.
Awwww we love Leo too, Yo yo yo! Appreciate the race recap, Sam...I was following your progress that day and could almost picture what was happening throughout as I raced IMMD last year, my first full! Would have loved to see ya there and I feel badly that you missed out on all those lovely jelly fish whiplashes across the face, LOL. 🤪 Enjoy your off season, daddy and God bless your family, Megan 🙏
YO YO YO! So excited to see you in Maryland! I was a swim course Kayaker. The swim was shortened for two reasons. 1- Looking at the forecasted winds, there was a decent chance a small craft advisory could be imposed on the Choptank River. There already was one on the Chesapeake Bay (not too far away at all). If swimmers were in the water and that happened, they would have to be pulled as the support boats could no longer operate (USCG rules). 2- A couple swimmers died in an IM event in Europe (I believe) recently. I'm just glad that they had a swim at all for all of the participants. I did the 70.3 there once when it was cancelled. Major bummer. Hats off to the staff that made the call to have a swim at all!! They really were exhausting every option to give the pros and ag folks the best event possible. But on a serious note: as a looong time fan but a life long Eastern Shoreman, seriously, LOBSTER CAKE?!?! My gosh man, made me cringe hearing that hahaha. You obviously didn't have a good crab cake here because if you had, you'd certainly remember it! Hopefully next time wink wink. Glad I got to see you here on my home turf, proud of you, your perfomance and I hope that you have a great off season with the family. Well deserved and can't wait to see you CRUSH 2024.
Thanks for the information!! I figured it was a good call and the right call. I imagine the pros would have been through but have to consider everyone and that the cutoff is 2:20 and that gives times for conditions to change drastically. I did have one crab cake burger in the airport…but it probably wasn’t the best one
Having Leo as your new training partner is the way to go. He definitely, knows how to pace himself, and humble and quiet, and gets the job done!! Why is he not wearing his Zoot cap?
Hey Sam - what do you think of the taste of Ketone IQ mixed in your nutrition bottles? I’ve been doing the same (not the same amount as you) and I feel great on my long rides but that bitter taste really sucks lol
Best way to do this: while walking the boy. Never trust “feeling good” until at least 1/2 way. Run a stand-alone marathon full-effort to better understand marathon pacing.
Ketones shut down fat metabolism hard. That safety net is gone once you down your first dose, so you better make 110% sure you keep supplying enough ketones and carb to meet energy demand up until the end of the race. You just got first hand experience of this.
@@SamYoYoYoLong I would suggest you talk more about this with people you trust. The research is sparse, and replication of studies even more so, if not unheard of. Individual response is often thrown around. So between us, I think you go long and hard enough every week to test this for yourself and figure out what works for you. I'll be cheering from the sidelines!
From my understanding. Ketones are produced when the body is “mobilizing fats” to be used as energy. So essentially taking in Ketones is the taking in of “already mobilized fats”. 1 Glucose =2 pyruvate =35-38 atp (1 pyruvate = 1 acety-coa=18atp per) 1 ketone= 22 atp You are essentially taking in alternate forms of ready to use fuel by taking in ketones and glucose. Taking in glucose keeps the body having glucose available for the muscle so we done use our glycogen stores up as fast. So taking glucose reduces mobilization of glycogen. Mobilization of glycogen is fast and easy so we don’t notice the switch from sugar in the blood from eating to glycogen release (you can notice but it isn’t a huge shift in energy needed to make it available) So, taking in ketones reduces the mobilization of fat (breaking down of fatty acid chains to make ketones to be used” The “wall” is the switch over to when you drastically start dipping into having to mobilize fat. Fat has a ton of calories, almost 2x as much as carbs in density. However, the body needs more time to break down the kind fatty acid chains to then make ketones “readily available”. So I think I’m conclusion it may be possible that ketone dosing during a race, raises the levels of ketones in the blood, making the body think that it doesn’t need to mobilize its own fat as much and therefore ketone supplements during a race may ramp down the bodies own metabolism of fats. Just to share my insights on this interesting question
In regards to fat adaptation for Ironman, I think this can be done with training rather than going on low carb diet. Anyway, great work Sam. Looking forward to seeing you in more full distance races. 👍

Well done! Lots of time to get your Kona slot!
I love this walk & talk style video - I feel like we're on the path chatting like pals. Congrats on a great season and cheers to the whole family!
Great report, and well done. And wow, 145g of carbs per hour is huge.
Great video Sam, thanks for a very informative and detailed race report. You’re a legend! 👍💪

3 Musketeer nutrition plan sounds delicious

where Sam is walking looks like the paintball fields I played in AZ
Great job brother!

Sam, sent the nutrition plan for the IM or 70.3 run, I haven't yet figured it out and I need your help. Grazie Giuseppe
Cheers to the Hoffseason!!
More than anything I am glad everyone sees happy and healthy! #dadlife
Well done Sam.
The walks will be good for you now; but when you are trying to train in season they will kill your recovery.
Eat, sleep, train.
you know you're a lifer when there's no more room for the car in the garage!
How did you carry all your nutrition on the bike? Gels all in a single bottle and musketeers in pocket?
Big fan of these types of videos. Free flowing updates with minimal editing 😊😊
Great Job Sam! Yo Yo Yo
Saw you at the race. My first full distance. Hopefully you got a good crab cake while in MD.
Next year Zoot trisuit should print ,,Yo-Yo-Yo” with small print ,,Baby needs new shoes”
Long time Maryland resident. Don’t like crabs nor crack cakes either 😅
How about some "just for fun" xterra in the off season to hone your technical bike skills for next year?

Next time, a little more update on how you two are handling family life.
OK will do. I was worried people thought it was too little triathlon and too much life!
Congrats on an awesome season!!!! Was the hat you’re wearing available for purchase? I couldn’t find it on zoot website 😢
Nice ka dol

I have done one stand alone marathon and my fastest mile was the 23rd mile! But yes I agree, halfway in a marathon is 18 miles! 😅
When you say you want to keep the carbs high on the run, what are you aiming for? :)
Great video!
I’m going to have to experiment but if could do 120g/hour that would be great
@@SamYoYoYoLong thanks for the answer!
GC Kuss forever!
Friendly fatherly advice: throw the stroller away for now. Use a snuggly or a baby front/back backpack.
Leo the star 🌟 of the show!! ❤
Exactly! You Leos are stars!
Go and have a sleep Sam. You look tired mate. Enjoy the off season.
Basically you had a glucose crash. Next time in your race wear a CGM and analyse your data…all the best Sam
