He make the best kway teow ever! What amazed me was when we went to his stall in the evening near to Maghrib prayer time, he was reading the Quran and he told me nicely next time to come earlier because he usually pray during that time. He also reminded me not to come on Fridays as the stall will be closed. When asked why he replied Friday prayer mahhhh…. Wow with that we, my son and I felt humbled and ashamed.
Where about is his stall? I'm in Malaysia, but I've got relatives in Singapore. They might be interested to know and visit, insyaaAllah.

Being a Muslim does not make you less Chinese. And it also does not mean you are becoming a Malay. And it is not about getting easy money. Of course a Muslim in need will get help from Muslim community, but Islam also teaches it's people to work to earn a living. For Anis case, just continue with halal kuetiaw. I wish him prosperity in his business.
One more thing, if someone that converted to Islam has a name with nice meaning and complies Islamic teaching, it is not obligatory to change it to Arabic name.
Right. The title is somewhat misleading.

Both myself and husband had even paid a visit to our ancestral home in china. My muslim name and my two sons muslim names are officially recorded in our

What is an ancestor home? Can you please explain?
An ancestral home is the place of origin of one's extended family, particularly the home owned and preserved by the same family for several generations. The term can refer to an individual house or estate, or to a broader geographic area such as a town, a region, or an entire country.

I looked at the people
With a critical eye
And found fault in everyone
I looked at myself
With a critical eye
And found goodness in everyone
I gazed longingly
At blessings the people possessed
And became unhappy
I began to gaze at the blessings I possessed
And became forever grateful
I waited for people to greet me
And became haughty
I greeted the people first
And became humble
I expected people to forgive me
And became arrogant
I began to forgive people
And became compassionate
I thought others blameworthy
And my ego inflated
I believed myself blameworthy
And my conscious responded
I watched those who strived for the world
And became complacent
I watched those who sacrificed for deen
And became productive
I looked towards the worldly folk to emulate
And lost myself
I looked towards the Godfearing people
And found myself
I looked for a middle road in life
And found it in Islam
I searched for the ideal Human being
And found my beloved Rasoollullah ﷺ
I searched everywhere for Peace
And found it

I love his Char Kway Teow (CKT)! I’m one of his regular customer & I respect him. His stall is super clean. Yes, cleanliness is one of the teaching of Islam. He prays 5 times a day & he would closed the stall shutter for a while just to pray inside his stall. There’s once I went to the stall but ‘closed’. The Chinese uncles from neighbouring stalls said he is ‘sembahyang (praying). They know his routines & respect him. Being a born muslim, I sometimes missed my prayer or somehow ‘forgot’ to pray 😅 but brother Ah Peng is a revert whom we muslims must see as an example. Bout 3 years ago, while waiting for my CKT I saw him sending a plate of CKT personally to an aged Chinese man who in his 80s. Normally, it’s self-service but he made the effort to personally sent the CKT to the old man. When the Ah Pek wanted to pay he said no need to pay. How sweet… he actually belanja (treat) the Ah Pek. No wonder his business is good! There’s blessings for his good deed I guess!
Are you sure cleanliness is one of the teaching of Islam ???
Yes. While humankind in general usually considers cleanliness to be a pleasing attribute, Islam insists on it. Muslims are required to take care of their personal hygiene by assuring that they are well groomed, and that their bodies, clothing, and surroundings are clean. Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of Allah be upon him, informed his companions and thus all of us, about the importance of cleanliness when he said:
“Cleanliness is half of faith.”
The Quran is more specific and says,
“Truly, God loves those who turn unto Him in repentance and loves those who purify themselves.”
(Quran 2:222)

We are all children of Adam. There is no pure race, and there is no separate god for each race. There is only One God. I am Muslim. But I can tell what his family may not understand. In Islam it is not required to change name, unless the name has a bad meaning. Some people change names, and even their family name. I mean if there is no bad meaning, it's not required. This may be one reason why some families may feel that way.
True, well said
But i think we can add the sylabel name like wong muhammad chun, abdul fung wei, etc
Amazing indeed how he came to the religion himself. May God continue to bless him. It's actually no different to converting to Christianity from a Buddhist/Taoist background. I'm sure those kind of conversions face a similar challenge, but this is def harder for the family to take in as there are so little (& silent!) Chinese Muslims here compared to Christians.

Michael Goh, yes compared with others according to population is small. Sure because you can't practice everything which is said according to the teaching of Islam following Quran like slaying the unbelievers until the accept Islam. Killing the infidels and going to Jannah (heaven )with 72 virgins. Quran is word of Allah and only can be recited in Arabic.Nobody is going to read or converse by Arabic, but by doing this the Arabs wanted their language to be known to the world. im totally agree what he said that islam teaches us how to be human ( 2:47 ).... as human we have to go through sadness and happiness sometime easy and sometime difficult... successful and unsuccessful poor and rich ...this is part of our life as human. i think if we go through all this and be patient we will become more stronger and more mature in thinking about life. But if we run away from sadness , diffuculty in life or stressful by drinking alcohol or want to be rich easily by taking advantage to poor people or gambling etc all this are prohibited by islam. That is why some people said that islam have so many rules and very strict religion but i believe for those who have been practicing islam he is already use to it and this people are in the straight path and you also can see the different between the practicing muslim and non practicing muslim...

Their fruits will have such resemblance to those of the earth that whenever they will be provided with those fruits they will say: “It was this which was granted to us on earth before.”26 For them there shall be pure spouses,27 and there they shall abide forever.
QURAN 2:25
26. The fruits of Paradise will not be so exotic in appearance as to be unfamiliar to people. They will resemble the fruits to which human beings are accustomed in this world, though infinitely excelling them in delicacy of taste. In appearance they may resemble, say mangoes, pomegranates and oranges, and the people of Paradise will be able to identify them as such. In taste, however, there will be no comparison between the terrestrial and heavenly fruits.
27. The Qur'anic text has the Arabic word azwaj which means 'spouses' or 'couples', and embraces both husband and wife. The husband is the zawj of his wife, and vice versa. In the Next World, however, this relationship of spouses will be qualified by purity. If a man has been virtuous in this world while his wife has not, their relationship in the Next World will be sundered and the man will receive another spouse who will be pure and virtuous. On the other hand, if a virtuous woman has had an evil husband she will be tied in companionship with a virtuous man. Where husband and wife have both been virtuous their relationship will become everlasting.
